Transformers edit

Why are you removing all the Transformers from the categories they belong to? Mathewignash (talk) 12:43, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

First off, I'm not removing all the categories.
Second, transformers aren't ants, or gorillas or dinosaurs. They merely change into that shape. (And besides, as has been shown repeatedly, the "form" selected can and does change over time.)
And, just as a character who can shapechange into a bat is considered someone who can shapechange, but not someone who can fly, the same applies here.
Does that clarify? - jc37 12:50, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not convinced that a robot cat doens't deserve to be in the fictional cats category - has there been a talk about this? Also, those characters who can fly can fly even when in humanoid form. Flying isn't part of their shape shifting. Heck, characters like Ape-Linq can fly but are gorillas. Nothing to do with their shapeshifting. Mathewignash (talk) 12:53, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Except that it's not a "robot cat". It's a fictional humanoid race of silicon-based lifeforms.
And yes, I believe nearly every decepticon can fly, and most "new" transformers as well. So perhaps the better plan would be to add Category:Transformers characters to Category:Fictional characters who can fly. To include every transformer character in the cat makes it difficult to identify non-transformer characters. - jc37 13:01, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, not every Transformer can fly. They are not a humanoid race. How would you categorize Laserbeak. Mathewignash (talk) 13:05, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I actually was thinking about Lazerbeak (and others) when I wrote that. If you check out Autobot, you may find that it too describes them as humanoid robots. (Noting that the Beast Wars version of Lserbeak seems to be humanoid as well.) - jc37 13:17, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The fiction varies creatly. For insatnce in the Japanese Beast Wars Neo Manga many of the characters started lift as actual beasts, who were exposed to alien energy and gained humanoid-robot forms. Also, in the Beast Wars series the characters actually carry the DNA of animals in their skin, because they are basically cloned from real animals to make their alternate forms. Additinally there are the "Mutant" Transformers who only turn from one animal to another. Is a robotic bear who turns into an robotic owl a bear, an owl or robot? I figured it was safer to place them in any category they COULD fall into. Mathewignash (talk) 13:24, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The answer is: They're fictional robots.
If any of the characters were actual beasts in their backstory (as you suggest about the Japanese Neo Manga), then (for those only) then potentially those characters only might be included in the fictional animals cats.
And for Beast Wars, the DNA is merely for the organic "skin"/body, and doesn't make them any less robots. - jc37 13:44, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, technically they are alien energy beings who wear robotic bodies, since their "sparks" are alive. I'd like to see this discussed. Do we go with the characters ORIGINAL body if they assume a new one? Look at the Ultra Humanite. He was born a human, but he's in Fictional Apes. Charactrs who are aliens or mutants with forms that are animal like are kept in those categories. Look at Sauron (comics) Mathewignash (talk) 13:51, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, if you would like to go the route of calling them energy beings, then they're still not fictional dogs, or whatever. We don't categorise by possession.
But (in most cases), I believe that they require the robot body to survive, else their "spark" fails, and they "die". (There are exceptions, obviously).
And I don't doubt that there are other such problems in categories.
All that aside, if you would like to put this before a wider audience, that's fine with me. WT:WikiProject Transformers, and WT:WikiProject Comics would probably be the best places to start. - jc37 14:01, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

why u want their info box down there? all the info box for fictional characters(or anything else such as actors, football players...) like Peter Griffin are not in the middle. Joojoo ra (talk)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cyclonus-toy.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Cyclonus-toy.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Replaceable fair use Image:Evac-cybertron.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Evac-cybertron.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 09:06, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Savage/Nobel edit

Well lets see... the character is a robot that can take the appearance of a dragon and a wolf.

Appearing to be a dragon does not make the character a fictional dragon, just that it can disguise itself as one. Same goes for the wolf.

And a werewolf is a specific thing, not just "the character can disguise itself as a wolf." This Transformer just doesn't match up to what a werewolf is.

No content in Category:Spychangers edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Spychangers, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Spychangers has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Spychangers, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Who voiced Megatron edit

I really don't need this to descend into one of us making more than three reverts, considering the article already has enough people adding rumours each day, but what makes you think it's necessary to mention Welker for some tie-in? What about those who voiced the characters in the games or the other cartoons? Alientraveller (talk) 21:34, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I mention Welker because he was a voice actor on the DVD release of the film. This page is about the Transformers film. Mathewignash (talk) 22:20, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
But he didn't voice him in the film. That's something different. Alientraveller (talk) 10:28, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
He voiced him in the film's DVD extras, so it's worth mentioning. Mathewignash (talk) 21:23, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re:Non-free images and toys edit

I'm aware that images of toys are considered non-free, but that in no way gives license to use too many non-free images in an article. In an article about a single- fictional character, I can appreciate the need of a single non-free image for identification, but any other must be justified. For more information, take a look at this helpful essay. J Milburn (talk) 20:50, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ratchet (Transformers) edit

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm being harsh about this, but there's really no place in the article for unsourced speculation about trademark issues. Your last edit summary said that they couldn't trademark a "common word" like Ratchet, which is not only appears to be just your theory, but is also not true, as many trademarks are in fact common words. I removed those statements from the article because they had been tagged since July 2008 as needing sources—none were provided in all those months. Postdlf (talk) 22:49, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Horrorcons edit

The point in merging Apeface and Snapdragon (Transformers) into Horrorcons is that the actual content of the articles is pretty much identical, save for the Transformers' names and their forms. To me, it makes no sense to have several Wikipedia articles with pretty much identical contents. You seem to have a habit of making a separate article for every individual Transformer, even if what there is actually say about him is already found in another article. As a Transformers fan since the late 1980s, I myself believe every Transformer character who has something to say about him deserves a Wikipedia article, but this should not go to extremes. Every Transformers character ever deserves a mention on Wikipedia, but only an individual article if there's enough text about that particular character - not just a verbatim copy from another article - to say about him. I'm sorry to be so harsh to you, but that's the way I feel. JIP | Talk 20:12, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

You can propose the merger, but I really don't think it should be carried out unless we get some feedback supporting it. You seemed to just go ahead with it without any feedback from other users. I do appreciate people taking time to improve articles though. Mathewignash (talk) 02:40, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your uploads edit

Good day. I see that you have uploaded a number of images to Wikipedia. First off, thank you for your contributions. Unfortunately, there are some guidelines that we need to follow with copyrighted images. Specifically, you need to add a source for the image (a link to a website will do), a copyright tag (there are some listed at WP:ICT), and a rationale explaining why we can use a copyrighted image (explained at WP:NFURG). I see that your images fail to include one of these. Please stop uploading images and address the concerns listed above. If you need assistance, you can ask at the help desk. If you do not fix these images, and you continue to make bad uploads, you will be blocked and your images will be deleted. Thanks for your contributions! STBotI (talk) 04:10, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Brawn-animated.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 14:28, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Skywarp-movietoy.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Skywarp-movietoy.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:31, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just to let you know I've done quite a bit of work on the Megatron article within my personal sandbox here. Let me know your thoughts on my talk page.

Just to give you a little heads up, the sections and subsection heads of the article have been de-wikified to keep things neat within the confines of my sandbox. When I add the changes main article, the format blockers will be removed. Sarujo (talk) 03:19, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Concerning Perceptor edit

When talking about what fictional characters have done, you do present tense. It won't be 'Iron Man defeated the aliens with a laser'. It'll be 'Iron Man defeats the aliens with a laser'. I'm trying to remember more details on the thing, but all I can recall at the moment is that Wikipedia administrator 'Emperor' can vouch for me. He's helped me out a lot when I have forgotten things. Lots42 (talk) 05:52, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Protection for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen edit

Hi Mathewignash. I'm not an admin, I just like to help out on the semi-protected edit requests. I looked at the logs (there's a link at the top of the history page) and it looks like the protection simply expired on June 2nd. The way to get it back is to go to Wikipedia:Request for page protection and put in a request. I've done that once before, so I'll give it a try. You may want to have a look at WP:RFPP for future reference. Thanks, from a fellow editor, for policing the article in the mean time. Celestra (talk) 14:35, 4 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Ratchet-sg.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Ratchet-sg.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:06, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jetfire revert edit

Hi, could you please tell me why you reverted my edit to Jetfire? He wasn't in the 2007 movie, he's in the upcoming 2009 one, which is what the section is about. Also, to avoid this problem in the future, please give a reason in the edit summary unless reverting vandalism. Thanks.--Flash176 (talk) 15:51, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

He was in the 2007 film's tie in line, even if he didn't appear in the film. Mathewignash (talk) 18:18, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
In that case, the section needs to say that, because it only mentions the 2009 movie. I'm changing the section header to "Transformers films" because 2007 is misleading.--Flash176 (talk) 22:30, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please either fix the section or stop undoing my edits. As I said, the 2007 movie is not mentioned in the section. If you want to go by his first appearance, then that needs to be clarified. If you are referring to his being in the card game as the 2007 appearance, then the article needs to say that. With currently no mention or article about the game, laymen aren't going to know anything about the card game.--Flash176 (talk) 22:53, 13 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

It was said in an interview with Michael Bay that Kenny would have at least one role in the film. Also, a clip from the film is available for viewing here - http://cinematoday.jp/page/A0002228 - and many have identified Wheelie's voice as being provided by Kenny. Is this not proof enough?
