New user edit

Hi there! Wikipedia has an adoption program which new users can join to get help and guidance .etc. Luckily for you, I am an adopter in the program - do you want me to adopt you? Leave another reply on my talk page, thanks. TheMoridian 08:07, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi again, you don't have to do anything - I've sorted it all for you. :) If you look on your userpage you will see that I've added a userbox on there with a link to my userpage, and I've done the same to my page - so I have now adopted you! The first thing I should say is, if you want to ask anything (absolutely anything), just leave a message on my talk page, and I'll reply as soon as I can. I'm usually on wikipedia at least once a day, so I should reply fairly quickly. Secondly, if you get into any sort of crisis, leave me a message in the same place, and I'll throw you a nice strong escape rope. Finally, the adopter resources section recommends that I set you assignments to complete - if you want these I'll do them, if you don't I won't. The choice is yours! Some general aims for new users are:

1. Join a couple of wikiprojects and start contributing to them.
2. Get familiar with wikipedia code.
3. Complete a nice, low-maintenance userpage.

If you want, I can help you with these things - it's up to you now on how to want to progress. Leave me another message on my talk page with whether you want assignments or not, what you want to do, and we can get started straight away!! All the best, TheMoridian 08:19, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry about your skill level on wikipedia - I was quite inexperienced too. As you asked, here's some help with jazzing-up your signature.

<big><span style="font-family: chiller"><span style="color:black">The</span><span style="color:blue">Moridian</span></span></big> This is what I have in my signature box (when you're logged in wikipedia, click on 'My preferences' in the top right corner). If you want, use my signature as a template for yours - just change the font, colours .etc. to what suits you best. Here's an example: if you type <big><span style="font-family: monotype corsiva"><span style="color:black">Massass</span><span style="color:red">i</span></span></big> in the signature box in 'my preferences', you will get Massassi. Notice how the 'User:Massassi|' part at the start makes the signature into a link to your userpage! * Also, make sure that when you've put your signature in the sig box, the box underneath (some statement about raw signatures .etc.) is CHECKED! Otherwise it may not work properly. Hope this helps you :)

Now, regarding your userpage - do you want me to add something on there saying you will sort it later? I'll do that for you if you want.

And wikiprojects - to join you simply sign your name on the participants list. For example, I believe that this link will be of interest to you. :) TheMoridian 08:45, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi again - I like the new signature, well done! I've found this, so...
  Award of First Success
Well done for completing your first assignment! All the best, TheMoridian 09:19, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
:) And I've added a basic template on your uesrpage - I've copied some of the code from my own userpage, hope you don't mind!
And now - next assignment. I think it would be userful for you to find userboxes for your page - look through some other userpages (feel free to copy from mine). Also, see if you can create a few of your own - use this template if you want:

ID = the picture to go on the left hand side.
ID-C = the colour of the picture box on the left hand side.
Info = the message on the right.
Info-c = the colour of the message box on the right.
Info-fc = the font colour of the message.

Here's an example:

To create:

This user likes to save new users from drowning.

I final note - be careful which image you put in the userbox. I recently had all of my images removed because the copyright doesn't cover userspaces - just check the copyright stuff below the image. When you've finished just leave a message on my talk page. All the best, TheMoridian 09:19, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yep - once you have made the userbox, create a subpage from your userpage by typing the address in the address bar (for example, one of mine is 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Themoridian/help), and then copy and paste the userbox code from your userpage into the new page. Then, to display the userbox, you just type on your userpage and the box will be automatically inserted!! Keep me informed, TheMoridian 14:08, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
