November 2013 edit

Hello, I'm Ruby Murray. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Magdalene asylum without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry: I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, you can use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Speedy deletion nomination of Magdalen Institutions edit

Hello Marygmu,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Magdalen Institutions for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, [[{{{article}}}]].

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 02:45, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 02:51, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed your recent edit to Magdalene asylum does not have an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history.

The edit summary appears in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! ☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 23:09, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Magdalene asylum edit

Please don't keep reverting the spelling to "Magdalen". Both spellings are in wide use, for example at:

Thanks, Ruby Murray 17:16, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

If both are in wide use, then why not predominately use the more accurate spelling???? Which is the one without the "e". Marygmu (talk) 18:03, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Since both are in wide use, and absent any reference verifying which is the "more accurate" spelling, let's use both in the article. Ruby Murray 18:05, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok, let's use both. Marygmu (talk) 18:48, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Spelling should have consistency within an article, not swap back and forth Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Since the article is titled with an "e" that really should be what is used throughout the article unless it is a direct quote.--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 20:23, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
The title of the article is incorrect and should be corrected. That's problem #1. I cannot believe how frustrating it is to edit a page on this ridiculous site so that the information is accurate and accessible to the public. Just because something came first (whoever titled this page MAGDALENE, for example) doesn't mean it's correct. Are you interested in having accurate information on this site to educate those who look it up???? Marygmu (talk) 22:15, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Have a look at Ulster Magdalene Asylum and The Magdalene Sisters: all of the references in those articles spell it "Magdalene", not just most of them as in Magdalene asylum. The book by James Smith, which you cite heavily in that article, is titled Ireland's Magdalene Laundries and the Nation's Architecture of Containment. In the external links I gave above, and other reliable sources that can be found on Google Scholar, it's also spelled "Magdalene", as well in these external links at the bottom of Magdalene asylum:
So what evidence do we have that "Magdalen" is the more correct spelling? Ruby Murray 07:31, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
