Hello Ms Ockerbloom,

A colleague showed me that you had done a bio on me, and I want to thank you. It is really good and will a very useful reference.

There are a few errors ... things you would not know ... and I would like to fix these. (things like where I was born, etc) There are also a few awards and typos that should be listed. And another honorary doctorate coming!

Can I please just send you a short list and ask for your help to fix these?

Also, is there any information I can provide you with?

Thank you again! Elaine Oran

Yes, please send me any corrections (and ideally, a reference to some source that I can cite to confirm it -- a URL is fine if the information is on a web page somewhere).Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 15:36, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Presentation proposal for Wikimania 2015

How to pick up more women...
Hello! Victuallers and I have developed a proposal for a talk to be presented at Wikimania 2015. It's titled, How to pick up more women... -- as in more women editors and more women's biographies. Examples include the Edit-a-thon blitz during WikiWomen's History Month and the "new articles" work underway by WikiProject Women Writers. The Wikimania talk proposal review process has begun and there's no guarantee that this proposal will be accepted. That's where you come in. Please review our proposal and give us feedback. Ultimately, we hope you add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal which signifies you're interested in the talk (it does not signify you'll be attending the event). Thank you! The Button

I added a Commons image of The Botton to the article, but I have some doubts about copyright. What do you say?--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:40, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

The button is a public artwork created in 1981; artworks created after 1977 are copyrighted by their creator, who must give permission for any photographs of the artwork. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 14:32, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

You are out-doing yourself today

External videos
Margo Humphrey pt.1: Our Common Bond Artists Talk,
"I am Precious"
Myrtis Bedolla on YouTube, 9:37

As you know I usually check for videos. They often show the person, you can hear her talk, and sometimes see what she says when she's in control. About 1 minute into this video, "I am Precious" changes the whole article for me. Maybe it is too personal, maybe you won't like it. See what you think and remove if necessary. Smallbones(smalltalk) 18:41, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Amazing what left-over caffeine and adrenalin can do :-) (and I have the day off from work). Wow. I would say yes, absolutely include both the videos (I'm made the change to add the second part). This is really an argument for why the external video links should be accepted -- the print sources all emphasize the brightness of her work, and her own discussions give a sense of the darkness that she has overcome to make that happen. Very powerful. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 20:21, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Meetup/Philadelphia/Represent African American Artists

What is the status of images of the artists and the artistic works for Wikipedia:Meetup/Philadelphia/Represent African American Artists?

I haven't done a systematic search for images; one or two photos were added last night, but most of the artworks are likely to be under copyright. I think Pete is checking for videos, I've mostly been making sure the new pages have enough content to stick :-) If you want to check for photos on Wikimedia commmons, go for it. Thanks for all your edits! Excellent teamwork! Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 22:07, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
If PMA owns the art work in the exhibition, perhaps they would provide copyright permission. Same idea with the artists.--DThomsen8 (talk) 01:31, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
In most cases PMA doesn't own the rights. I did talk to them about that briefly when they started planning the event. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 11:30, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

There are many current proposals as part of the 2015 Inspire Campaign related to harassment management. I’ve created a page, Meta:Grants:IdeaLab/Community discussion on harassment reporting meant to serve as a central space where the various stakeholders in these proposals and other community members can discuss which methods might serve our community best so that we can unify our ideas into collective action. Edit-a-thon Draft Report on Meta

Hello Mary Mark Ockerbloom, I’m from the Program Evaluation & Design team at the WMF. Late last year we received data on edit-a-thons which were completed between September 2013 and September 2014--now the edit-a-thon evaluation report draft is ready for your review. I'm reaching out now because we would love your feedback before we announce the report to the broader community.

  • Does the analysis and presentation resonate with your programs?
  • How is the report useful to you as a program leader?
  • What other data would help to tell the story of edit-a-thons?

Also, would you be willing to contribute a quote for the report? For example, you've organized a variety of different events--how do you decide what style or theme to use for each event? If you can send a quote by August 16th I would love to include it in the report.

In this report we were able to present 121 edit-a-thons that brought in 2,275 participants and included 5,272 articles created or improved. We expect that this report will help our communities have a more comprehensive view of editathons around the world.

If you want to discuss edit-a-thons and the report findings with other program leaders, we’re hosting a virtual panel of program leaders with group discussion on the themes and findings the week of August 24th. If you have key themes you would like to discuss in the hangout, please do share them on the report talk page!

The estimated plan for review:

  • Program leaders who submitted data to review until August 16.
  • L&E to incorporate feedback and announce on the PE&D mailing list and social media the week of August 17.
  • WMF blog post and a virtual panel the week of August 24.

Thank you again for all your work to track and showcase the results of your edit-a-thons. If you can give feedback on this report, we would appreciate the chance to highlight program leader insights and improve both this and future reports. Abittaker (WMF) (talk) 16:55, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

New citation in Lynn Poole article

Glad see your work on numerous science communication articles! I noted that your new citation to LaFollete's 2013 book doesn't include a page number, which I think is needed for inline citations to books. If the goal is to draw attention to the entire book, I generally put the citation into the "Further reading" section until I get around to incorporating a more specific citation into an article. Hello, and thanks for the suggestion! I google'd her name and she appears in American Men & Women of Science - Volume 5 - Page 246 and clearly has a strong publication record, so I think she should be doable in terms of material. It sounds like you would be well-skilled to write the part most often missing from scientist bios -- a statement summarizing her work and its significance. I could work on the more biographic aspects. That said, I'm going to be very busy over the Christmas holidays and may not have much time for the next couple of weeks.
