Attack on chris black edit

The Xchrisblackx was attacked by a hacker who then proceeded to vandalise everything. I have advised him to dump his current account in case this vandal attacks again and get a totally new account. If you spot any vandalisim comming out of this account, tell him to dump the current account, permablock it. --Martial Law 02:52, 3 April 2006 (UTC) :)Reply

Believe me, I've more or less lost patience with that particular account. The next time will be the last. --maru (talk) contribs 02:56, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cats edit

I've had 10 cats myself. They used to lick my face. --Martial Law 08:25, 3 April 2006 (UTC) :)Reply

Hah. I had only two, but they would lick not merely my face, but inside me ears too! (Very ticklish, let me tell you.) --maru (talk) contribs 14:17, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Chris black attacks edit

Sorry to bug you Marudubshinki, but why is my account always being hacked and vandalized? --Mahogany-wanna chat?

No idea. Could be many things, from you choosing a crappy password, to someone shoulder-surfing, to a standard software or hardware keylogger installed on a computer you use... In your situation, I would remove Windows from any computer I use, pick a decent password and browser, and maybe add a few other security precautions, but I doubt that that is feasible for you. I'd look into weak passwords, keyloggers, and crappy OS/browser in that order, though, were I you. --maru (talk) contribs 17:06, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wonderful, my password isn't crappy but I bet my security sucks. Who ever this guy is he wants my account pretty bad. Mahogany-wanna chat?

I thought you were going to bed ... - Nat Krause(Talk!) 05:54, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Between some Java programming I needed to do, and my sudden horrid realization that my intention to rename my account "maru" to lessen confusion and ease typing would soon be obviated by the onrushing bloviation of my editting, surpassing the licit bounds of score thousand edits, I'm still up. --maru (talk) contribs 05:58, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Instead of "Maru", why not something more real-name-ish, such as, I don't know, "Mark Duncan" or "Marvin Statham"? ... oh, well, I guess it's a bit too late for that. - Nat Krause(Talk!) 06:07, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Have you gone mad? A name like Mark Duncan is an awful user name- hardly distinctive, and how would I be able to explain the interesting origins of how I constructed my nick, then? Hmm? And besides, I don't need a real name nick- what good would it do me? --maru (talk) contribs 06:21, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
The goal of using real names is to present to the world the façade that Wikipedia is run by adults and can be taken seriously as a source of information. Also, new users will perhaps feel encouraged to be a bit more responsible in their edits if they are using their real names, and they will certainly feel more encouraged to use real names if we experienced editors do it first. I don't think people would have very much trouble remembering Mark Duncan, because people in Western society get pretty used to dealing with ordinary names like that; but, if you want, you could spice it up with a middle initial or a hyphenated name or something. You know, once Digital Universe gets up and running, their encyclopaedia is going to require real names—Larry Sanger is going to scoff twice over at "Marudubshinki". 而且,how interesting, prithee, is "Maru"? Everyone knows it's the Japanese word for ship. How very blah. - Nat Krause(Talk!) 21:27, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh please. Simply changing names isnae going to change anybody's mind about Wikipedia's reliability or lack there of; all it will do is make wiki-stalking and harassment easier. (I won't even poke fun at your risible suggestion that Digital Universe is a threat; the growth rates are nowhere near enough to make them a threat for a long time, if ever, even if I didn't believe that Worse is Better applies here.) And of course, Wikipedia is only partially run by adults. I'll thank you to remember that a number of excellent editors are quite young (I shall leave it at simply mentioning Redwolf24- how old was he? Or Ilyanep?). And the Encyclopedia Project didn't scoff over "Marudubshinki"...
And re: my nick- the joke's on you! It actually isn't derived from the Japanese suffix denoting a ship at all! It's derived from the name of a Japanese trickster fox-god! So ha. --maru (talk) contribs 21:38, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for userbox comment on my user page edit

Thanks. That was subtle, yet effective (though I'd prefer you leave something on my talk page). --SheeEttin 22:01, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Think nothing of it. I didn't want to be so forward as to paste my markup in, but it was too trivial for a talk page, I thought. --maru (talk) contribs 22:08, 4 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Nothing is too trivial for my user page. That's what it's there for.
Oh, and would you mind if I either 1. stole your Grammar Nazi userbox or B. stole it, made it an official one, and created a corresponding Spelling Nazi one? The current userbox isn't as good. --SheeEttin 21:00, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't mind at all. But a word of advice: keep it in your user space, and better yet, keep it as a template in your user space. The official one and I believe the Spelling Nazi one were deleted/modified in the Great Userbox Purges. --maru (talk) contribs 21:06, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

WP:SIGN TROLL edit

I didn't even realize it had been reverted... but whoops, my mistake. I'd never read the Signpost before and didn't realize it was an acronym, and you know how the impulse to correct minor errors settles in with Wiki-addiction (I'm constantly looking for the "edit" button on other websites). Thanks for dropping me a note in explanation, and my apologies. --dharmabum 00:14, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem. (Just be careful- BRION is another carefully named section as well :). --maru (talk) contribs 00:20, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're on Wheels! edit

User talk:Marudubshinki on Wheels!. Jedi6-(need help?) 05:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh noes! What if I fall from my wheels? Will babes still give me mad props? --maru (talk) contribs 06:04, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you (user space vandalization) edit

Hey, thanks for fixing the vandalism on my user page and my user talk page in my absence. It's nice to know someone is looking out. --ProfMoriarty 02:18, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Someone would've realized that you had had a non-blank user page before, and investigated. --maru (talk) contribs 02:25, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
