April 2016 edit

Hello. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to David Hilberman seemed less than neutral to me, so I removed it for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. H.dryad (talk) 19:05, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

David Hilberman edit

Hello. Thank you for contacting me about the David Hilberman article. My main issues was the tone of the piece; it seemed a bit less than objective in some of the areas . . . the tone at any rate. We try to keep things non POV here, and to keep things as objective as possible. As such, it's best to try to make the language state things plainly woitho0ut seeming to praise the subject, and to use language that is as neutral as possible. You were mostly successful at this, but there were a few areas that needed de-POVing (I am trying to work at this as we speak). Don't fret about this too much; it's not easy for me either . . . it's just a general guideline that we strive for when writing our articles. Thank you for updating the article, though. The expansion was much needed and it gives other editors much more room for making useful improvements to the article. H.dryad (talk) 21:36, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate the difficulties in making an unbiased article, especially about someone you admire, so am removing some of the praise words such as "excellent" and so forth. All in all, the job you did was very good, so if I go too far, do not feel you cannot revert and correct. I am also trying to expand some of the references. Usually we like to have references in a standard format and they do not conform completely, and I do a lot of this on Wikipedia, so am focusing on this as well. The expansion of the article was much needed, however. I have only recently heard of the man and I found this was surprising, given his importance in the animation field. Don't worry, though, we'll get the article to GA status before long! Many thanks again. H.dryad (talk) 13:46, 12 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
I finally found your comments/edits and the edited text and tried to respond to them appropriately. It would be relatively simple to change the references in parenthesis (an acceptable format) to a numbered one -- tho I chose the former as less cumbersome & to facilitate readability -- your call. As noted above his career was so greatly impacted by the political winds of the 1940s and 50s that it was hard to avoid. Whenever a judgement on his career is made or on the Disney strike of 1941 I have used independent, quoted or referenced sources -- happy to keep working on that: suggestions?? & thanks Mark
I have made the reference style more standard, which should help and done some wordsmithing -- there were places where the recurrent "Hilberman" got a bit much, tho I get that message. I do think the great big purple link to the Walt Disney Studios is inappropriate, but cannot delete it. I do have that link in the place where he went to work there under his animation career, which is appropriate. Important and eventually as harmful as it was to him, his story and contributions differed. thanks Mark
If you think the template is inappropriate, I have no objections to its removal; I placed it there simply to avoid the article being an orphan and to give him credit for being an animator at Disney studios, but it is not essential. If you cannot remove it for whatever reason, I can take it out for you. Keep up the great work. H.dryad (talk) 18:12, 15 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
I just thought it intrusive and had omitted to provide a link in the appropriate place -- I could not delete the purple insertion, tried -- given both the 5 years there in a career of about 60 years + the HUAC and blacklist stuff please do take it out. let me know if you want me to work more on tone, references or other content. Many thanks busy person. best mark MarkHilberman (talk) 18:17, 15 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
I removed it. The purple insertion is called a template and they are enclosed within doubled curly brackets. Tone is better now, and references have improved some. I can't thank you enough for your kind assistance in getting the article up to speed. Best wishes. H.dryad (talk) 18:20, 15 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
