== Welcome to Wikipedia! ==

Hello MarjorieCook, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

You might like some of these links and tips:

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alf melmac 01:06, 24 September 2005 (UTC).Reply

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Page blanking

edit

Hi there! You recently blanked SpongeBob SquarePants (TV show) and converted it to a redirect. You may not have noticed that there is a mergoto tag in place. Before making a change like that to a page with as much content and history as SpongeBob SquarePants (TV show), please participate in discussion first. There is no consensus in place regarding blanking the page, I put the mergeto tag there after an anon IP user did the same. I'm concerned that content will be lost with a bare blanking, so here's hoping we can have a discussion first to make sure all the i's are crossed and the t's are dotted. - CHAIRBOY () 17:26, 24 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Logos

edit

There is no need to give logos a frame and caption (as with DreamWorks Animation and Aardman Animations; it is usually self-evident what they are. tregoweth 18:26, 24 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Wigwam Mills

edit

Please stop creating incorrect redirects for articles that are unlikely to be used. Judging by Wigwam Mills' website, Ingenius and Ultimax are brands, not companies. They are called "Wigwam Mills" because they have mills; there shouldn't be a hyphen.

Also, use the "Show preview" button and get everything how you want it before pressing "Save page."

And respond to your messages already. Wikipedia is not a playground for you to create articles on whatever is laying around your house. Your editing and obliviousness to (or ignoring of) other users is causing real problems. tregoweth 20:01, 24 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

moving pages

edit

Hi MarjorieCook, I noticed that you had cut and pasted the content at Winnie the Pooh to Winnie-the-Pooh (character) and then made the old article a redirect to the new. This breaks the edit history; if you wish to change the location of an article, please use the "move" button at the top of the screen. The newest users are not allowed to move articles as a security measure; if you cannot yet use the move button, please ask another user to do so on your behalf. Note that I simplifed the various Winnie the Pooh redirects and the content you moved is now at Winnie-the-Pooh. Thanks, BanyanTree 03:32, 29 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Nickelodeon Studios

edit

Nickelodeon Productions and Nickelodeon Studios are not the same thing. Nickelodeon Studios was a building where Nickelodeon Productions made shows. tregoweth 21:47, 29 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Preposition trouble

edit

When you say a movie was "released by 2004," you should say "released in 2004." tregoweth 22:39, 29 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

More notes

edit
  • User:KramarDanIkabu/Nintendo is a user's personal page. Unless that user says otherwise, you really have no business editing it.
  • Image:Nintendo.png is not the Nintendo "Get Games" logo.
  • That "Get Games" logo is not Nintendo's official logo, and should not replace the existing logo in the article.
  • Walt Disney did not create all the Disney characters (House of Mouse)
  • Merely adding "{{subst:ifd}}" to an image's description does not put it on Images for deletion.
  • And, since you don't read these: If you add a message to my talk page, I will mail you a dollar.

Dates

edit

Please don't delete complete dates from articles, as you did at The Magic School Bus ("September 11, 1994" to "1994"; and "December 7, 1997" to "1997").

Also, there is no need to change the format of wikified dates (for example, from "31 December" to "December 31") The dates are automatically changed based on your preferences; also, both versions are correct. tregoweth 19:20, 2 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

The founder of See's Candies was not Charles See. It was Mary See. Because of your apparently long history of questionable edits of this type, you've been blocked from further editing for the next 24 hours. - Lucky 6.9 06:00, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Scratch that...you're permanently blocked for sockpuppetry, vandalism of this site, your repeated refusal to interact with other users and failure to abide by the rules of this site. This nonsense ends now. - Lucky 6.9 06:07, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Apparently, Charles See was the founder of See's Candies. However, the block stands for other reasons stated. Total content of "Charles See" article was Charles See was the founder of See's Candies. This user was the sole contributor and has a long history of similar non-entries. - Lucky 6.9 23:04, 4 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

edit
The image you uploaded, Image:Burger King Headshot.jpg, has no source information. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Unless the copyright status is provided, the image will be marked for deletion on 24 October 2005.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Aardman Animations Logo.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Aardman Animations Logo.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Non-free rationale for File:Ubu logo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ubu logo.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
