Additional edits and question

I made some edits to Fernando Luis Garcia — standardizing it to match the other USMC MOH recipients. In addition, I uploaded (replaced) a higher resolution image over the top of the one you had originally uploaded.

I was reviewing the Humbert Roque Versace article. Would you mind if the images of the ribbons were removed from the infobox? They are already in the decorations section and in order to be more standardized and to help with rendering in the infobox space, I think it would look better to leave them out. What do you think?

Verifiability

Tony, very interesting question you left for me. I spent a good amount of time reviewing various policies and guidelines on verifiability and citations, etc. The overarching guideline that I think needs to be met with inclusion of the information about upcoming recognitions of Humbert Roque Versace and Manuel Rivera is that it can be verified by other editors. As I've read in a number of locations, Wikipedia wants to be able to have independent verification, not just the truth. So, what would unquestionably allow others to verify the information? Publication / press release by the PR government or publication in a reliable secondary source. One potential secondary source could be El Boricua — though if it was published there, it would be best that you not add the material to Wikipedia articles, but rather rely on an independent editor to add the information. Otherwise, the information can easily be added after the Memorial Day ceremony, as I feel sure that there will be press coverage which will result in published secondary sources. — ERcheck (talk) 02:04, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Puerto Rican citizenship recognized

Hi Marine, I opened a section in Puerto Rico -talk about the recognition of the Puerto Rican citizenship by the Government of Puerto Rico (happened this week for the first time since the constitution of 1952 was established). Rafael Celestino Benitez

Do you have a larger picture / color picture of Rafael Celestino Benitez? I've looked at the one currently in the article, and cannot definitively say that there is a star (in lieu of a second award), though it looks that way. I got a second opinion — says "yes", of course. So, you are probably correct that there is a second award. But, as with all things Wikipedia, since WP:Verify is a policy, it would be good to find a source that states this. OK, another opinion on my talk page ... most probably a star. I do think it is important to find out what he did to earn the second award — both from the verifiability point and for recognizing the full extent of his contributions. I've done some initial copyediting. I have a few questions:

1. Was Benitez' Naval Academy application actually made after high school graduation, or was it that he was admitted to the Academy and attended directly out of high school?
2. In the Early years section, it indicates that he was awarded his first Silver Star for actions during WWII. The closest reference is from the Sontag book. Do you have the book? If so, can you look up where in the book (page number, chapter (w/title)) that information is located?
3. What awards, if any, did he earn for the cochino incidente?

Jose Melendez-Perez

Check out bio for Jose Melendez-Perez. I added him to the list of Puerto Ricans. He is a former Vietnam vet who became a figure in the 9/11 Commision Report. He was successful in denying entry to a terrorist who was going to meet Mohammed Atta in Orlando on August 2001. MLB All-Stars categories

Hello Tony. I'm sorry to say that some people thinks that all American and National Leagues All-Stars should be deleted and merged into their parents. I would favour keeping both categories. I find categories useful for browsing related articles and exploring people with something in common. You know what? Finally, all Dates in Baseball articles were delected because some wiki users don't see baseball history by date as notable or useful. I think is a shame to just threw away all this hard work. Now, is the turn for the All-Stars cats. It could be a bad precedent for future projects. In any event, could you have a look at MLB All-Stars categories for deletion? Tony (and MusiCitizen), I have not proposed removing these two categories, I have proposed to remove the subcategories of the two subcategories. If you want to browse related articles and explore people with something in common, the best place to do that, in the case of All Star rosters would be to have the rosters included in the articles about each All Star game. This is starting to happen. Having the rosters in the articles would remove the category clutter from those athletes that have been in several games. I understand how disappointing it can be to have your work undone by this type of decision. It is, alas, one of the risks of working on a wiki. -- Samuel Wantman 01:52, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

David M. Gonzales

As I mentioned, the article is coming along and the photos looks great. With some more hard work, the article could be FA material.-- Jreferee 17:03, 24 November 2006 (UTC) I fixed the copyright information at photo. A quick way to find potentially legit images for uploading to Wikipedia is to place the name in Google image search, look for a photo you like, and then look at the link below the photo. If the link is from .mil or the photo is over 100 years old, you may have found a legit images for uploading. For the David M. Gonzales photo, I placed David M. Gonzales in the Google image search box, looked at each page, did not use the www.lamission.edu photo because it was from .edu, and found the same photo at www.army.mil on page 3 of the search. I then cited the .mil link at photo. I found the .mil web site page name by right clicking on the page and bringing up the properties window. I copied Hispanic Americans in the United States Army from the properties widow, pasted it into photo, and I was done. You also may want to check out how I modified the summary of Image:HectorElizondo.jpg. Note how my summary is just a rewording of the Wiki license with the specific facts thrown in. The language in the use in particular articles section was taken from Wikipedia:Fair_use and modified slightly to fit the particular situation. I don't know if it will be sufficient, but is seems to be more directed towards what they are looking for. If you don't protect your hard work now, someone can come by in one year, five years, etc. and delete it.-- Jreferee 09:10, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

When a person calls a Congressman's office for help, it is the job of his staff to do the leg work. Muna Lee (writer)

Can you help me with two things:

(1) There is a Muna Lee (athlete) and a Muna Lee (writer). The latter was the first wife of Luis Munoz Marin. Can you create a disambugation page to seperate both of them. I don't know how to do so.

(2) I found an article on Muna Lee. In the article it has photos of a young Luis Munoz Marin (maybe in his twenties) and Muna. I would like to incorporate them into his article. Do you know what label I should use for these photos?

(3) Muna lived and died in PR. She wrote how much she loved PR and wrote it in her poetry. Although she was ethnically not PR, would you add her to the list of PR writers? She was the mother of Luis' eldest two children. Muna Lee Article

Re: Charlie Palmieri

Hey! Yes, I was very pleased to see he had an informative entry here on Wikipedia. Regarding Charlie, this had to be in 1987/88 and originally, my best friend had been taking piano lessons with him at the music store in our neighborhood. At first I didn't know he was a legend because well, I was about twelve or thirteen at the time, so what did I know? I soon learned, though, and was totally awed. I used to sit in on their lessons every week, just the three of us and a piano in a room little bigger than a walk-in closet, but it was amazing nonetheless. He was really the nicest guy... great sense of humor, wonderful teacher. Such enthusiasm for the subject and a way of teaching that made me want to get lessons for myself. Eventually I did, but unfortunately that didn't last long because sadly, he had the heart attack. I remember being so mad that he was sent to Jacobi because well, that hospital rather famously (to us in the Bronx anyway) was awful, with long wait times and it was no surprise to us at all that he had died after being in their "care". Of course there was really nothing that could be done about that, but it shook me terribly nonetheless. Anyway, he was a really good guy and I have nothing but the fondest of memories of him.  :) --Nummymuffin 09:10, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Tony, Great to hear from you, hombre! I switched jobs in August, and the new one doesn't give me nearly as much time to dedicate to the Wiki as the old one. Guess that's the way it goes sometime. I still monitor the pages, but I wish I had more time to write new articles. At any rate, I am very thankful to you for all the work you put into the whole Hispanic Medal of Honor recipient pages -- I had seen them on the DYN's and noticed you were doing plenty of work. That whole project is there for posterity more, and far more detailed and better than anything I could have imagined back when we first discussed the idea. You are a great man, Tony. I'm so glad for you that the test results were negative. Waiting can be very hard.

I've not looked at all of the MOH articles you've written; but, I've reviewed a few, and you can see that I've made a few edits here and there. Writing articles for MOH recipients who were not Marines is a bit more difficult. The Marine Corps History Division has done a great job providing information on almost all of the Medal of Honor recipients in the past 100 years. I applaud you for getting information for the other services.

Tony, I was doing a search for references for Antonio Rodriguez Balinas, which turned up El Boricua Military History page. There seems to be a spacing/formatting issues on the page. It at first seemed empty, except for the header. If I scroll down about 1-1/2 screens, I then see the content. Perhaps you could see if this could be fixed? Ongoing Vandalism of Denise Quinones Article

I am not sure if you are an administrator, but if so can you take action in preventing the ongoing vandalism of Denise's article by IP Address 70.126.2.82 . Tony, I would leave out the Boxer rebellion first paragraph, as the information can be accessed in teh main article. (Perhaps a {{main}} tag?) Re: PR Is Not a Country

I would delete that entry for sure. Here is the definition of country as defined on dictionary.com:

It does mention that Puerto Rico is a nation and no one can deny that it isn't. It was indepedent for a few hours during the Grito de Lares. A Commonwealth is really not a well defined term. The way Commonwealth is interpreted by the US (Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands) differs from that of the UK (Ireland). What did others have to say? You can use the link from dictionary.com to validate the deletion from that page. I am sure it was a statehooder who wrote such an ignorant thing.--XLR8TION 11:52, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Hey Tony! What's up? Hey I wanted to bring back to your attention the portal talk page where after several reverts our friend keeps insisting on changing the entries the way he wants it. I tried making rational arguments and even brought the issue up in his talk page, but he has remained mostly silent. He just seems to be blindly and unilaterally reverting things. I am itching to revert the changes once more but that would put me in violation of 3RR. I don't know the guy's angle but he has focused only on the portal page.
