History of pulicat lake edit

Hi! Marcus.

I have added some text and photos to the article on History of Pulicat Lake in your sand box. I feel the initial para should reflect the contents of the article and needs to be duly referenced. I have referenced it now. With this it would be easier to put a suitable DYK Hook. It may be better to avoid putting photos which are already in other articles of the Pulicat Lake and Pulicat. I have, therefore, added some more photos and also a map with a flag showing the chronolgy of foreign rule.I will be adding more in the next few days.--Nvvchar (talk) 01:34, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi! Marcus,

Greetings to you all on the begining of the festive Christmas month.

A few observations for consideration.

1.In the first table referencing from one or more sources could be given justiying the changes made from the first refrence. Without refrencing it may invite a citation required remark. Probably a History of Tamil Nadu template could be modified to suit this article.

2. The second table and the map are overlapping. Since I am not very proficient in fixing such changes (computer knowledge is limited to Word only), my suggestion is if the map could be fitted above the table with suitable template programming.

3. I am not able to locate any additional web sources on the rule of Hindu Kings to supplement the text and i do not have access to any library nearby here.

I am still reading many of the references that are already provided in the article. I may add a few more paras of text in the next two days.--Nvvchar (talk) 20:50, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • I have added few more paras from two interesting references. Truly, reading does enrich one's knowledge base.--Nvvchar (talk) 22:03, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • I have completed my additions. A few suggestions though for finalsing the article.

1. The head table and the following text paras should match. 2. The Thali Kota and Chandragiri wiki articles have been linked and a photo of Chandragiri fort has been added. Retaining photo is optional. 3. Some link pages could also be given under 'See also' heading.--Nvvchar (talk) 20:59, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

      • Hi! Marcus,

I am tempted to add more on Vijayanagar Empire from a new reference. Reference 12 you have mentioned in your last message is not fully reliable as far as the Vijayanagar reign from Pulicat is concerned. With the additional text that I have now added you may like to prune the sentence to the minimum. --Nvvchar (talk) 21:40, 5 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • I have removed the word Mangaliliyam since I do not know the meaning of it.Probabaly it is some misspselt Tamil Word, which I am not aware.Where do I post the Berijam text?--Nvvchar (talk) 16:29, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • Hi! Marcus,

I am sure, as it looks, the article on History of Pulicat is now ready for DYK posting.

I have a problem with my talkpage. None of the messasges from you and others are appearing on the talk page. Can you help me fix it, please?

I find that you have tranferred all the text of Berijam Lake to my Sandbox. I do want you to give your valuable inputs and editing skills on it and then post it as a jonit article since the initial inspiration for this is from you and I am sure your inputs would be very valuable since they would be from relaible texts. Please join me. Yes, as regards referencing I still have minor problems of appying/using it correctly.Nicholos has been a great help all along. I am sure with your help I will be be able to resolve it. Have look at my latest accepted DYK on Lakes in Bangalore and let me know your views! Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 00:27, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

      • Please link the Hook to a reference in the summary or under Slave trade. May like to put up an alternate hook also. --Nvvchar (talk) 06:47, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Help me edit

{{helpme}} Something seems messed up with the Tamil Nadu locator map here and also at Protected areas of Tamil Nadu, User:Marcus334/Research_of_the_Protected_Areas_of_Tamil_Nadu#Introduction: and Palani Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park. This happened all by itself without my working at all on the template. I can't find the problem. Will someone please help with a repair. Thank You. Marcus (talk) 15:26, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

We're on IRC, and we're trying to help, but we are really stuck too. We have an admin, so all doors are open if we can work out what the problem is. Cheers, neuro(talk) 15:41, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

By the looks of your question, I think it would be best to have you log on to IRC. This way I can get others on #wikipedia-en-help to help you in addition to me. This link will direct you to a web based IRC client. This way you don't have to download anything to talk to us! We are waiting for you. neuro(talk) 16:26, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looks to me like this problem has been fixed, perhaps you should clear your cache, and purge the page! If not, please re-add or re-enable your template! Thanks! NeuroLogic 18:58, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comment. I think you may be interested that Nvvchar (talk)and I have been working together on a new article User:Marcus334/Sandbox#History_of_Pulicat which we will soon post. We will appreciate your critical eye and comments. Please go ahead and make any small copy edits we have missed. History of Pulicat edit

Just had a glance at the article. It's quite good. Will have a detailed look at it tomorrow. It is good idea to create the article in userspace and then more it to the mainspace. :-) There have been a couple of occasions when my articles have been deleted even while I was writing them. -RavichandarMy coffee shop 15:54, 5 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

History of Pulicat edit

Kudos, you've done a wonderful job with the article. :-) It is apparent that a great amount of research and hard work has been put into the article and I really appreciate it. But I strongly feel that the style of writing, especially in the lead section, could be slightly altered for it reads like a brochure. However, you may very well introduce the article into mainspace. I'll put forth my suggestions, then. :-). I also have some points to add. I'll add them once I am able to find sources. Regards-RavichandarMy coffee shop 12:45, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, good research work, but bad citation style. Please read Wikipedia:Layout, also citebook manual and section 3 and 4 at Wikipedia:Citing sources. Please don't link every other word in the article. see Wikipedia:Only make links that are relevant to the context.

I am so sorry could not get you there is nothing mentioned about ¶¶ 14-17, in the first version of the article, which i corrected [1] I quote "and between 1621 and 1665 alone, used 131 ships to transport 38,441 Indian slaves obtained mostly from Pulicat brokers. [43] p.16" ref 43: "Dijk, Dr. Wil O. (Winter 2008). The Dutch Trade in Asian slaves: Arakan and the Bay of Bengal, 1621 – 1665 An end to the history of silence?. NEWSLETTER. #46. The Hague, Netherlands: International Association of Asian Studies (IAAS). http://www.iias.nl/nl/46/IIAS_NL46_16.pdf." Now it's "and between 1621 and 1665 alone, used 131 ships to transport 38,441 Indian slaves obtained mostly from Pulicat brokers.[55]" Ref 55 is " Dijk, Dr. Wil O. (Winter 2008). The Dutch Trade in Asian slaves: Arakan and the Bay of Bengal, 1621 – 1665 An end to the history of silence?. NEWSLETTER. #46. The Hague, Netherlands: International Association of Asian Studies (IAAS). p. 16. http://www.iias.nl/nl/46/IIAS_NL46_16.pdf." Whats wrong?????????? Even the last revision you edited has the same ref [2] --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:13, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thats ok. If you need me for a peer review or formatting or anything, tell me. I am always with good hard working editors to help. --Redtigerxyz Talk 03:26, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
The Hook has been accepted. There was some confusion about credits since my name appeared only once in a minor edit on the main article. Some one has clarified the status.Have look at the DYK page?--Nvvchar (talk) 23:54, 12 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unclosed ref edit

Your edit [3] contained an unclosed <ref tag which caused the following text to not be displayed as discussed at User talk:Nvvchar#Talk page test. It has been fixed. You can use nowiki tags (see the source for an example) to display wikicode. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:50, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The text was displayed right after your edit so I understand you didn't notice the problem. The text after <ref disappeared next time somebody happened to make an edit containing > later on the page.[4] PrimeHunter (talk) 03:50, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kerala Laughingthrush edit

Hi Marcus, I am trying to expand this cluster. The problem is that the group has recently (2005) had a taxonomic update and the whole lot needs to be updated. For starters the binomial name has changed :( and the new name that is being pushed is Kerala Laughingthrush ... The image that was on the taxobox was incorrect- that was Garrulax cachinnans the black chinned one.. Shyamal (talk) 04:18, 13 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have updated the mainspace version of Grey-breasted Laughingthrush also known as the Kerala Laughingthrush. Will need to verify the call recording with some others. Shyamal (talk) 09:04, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to merge, the call needs verification for species. The picture is actually of Garrulax cachinnans jerdoni - and the species named of jerdoni should be dropped due to the chances of it being confused. The author is Blanford and not Blyth. I will look over it later. Have some insect groups to fix now. I had a link to SACON architecture from Laurie Baker, will try to see if someone can take pictures of the buildings. Shyamal (talk) 09:20, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

ps: I have somewhere some annual reports of SACON, quite sorry reports of financial and academic achievements unfortunately. Shyamal (talk) 09:21, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Triple hook and all edit

Hi! Marcus,

Congrats for the DYK Hook on History of Pulicat though some intrusions were overdone. I have posted some three references in my Berijam sandbox on Laughingthrush, which you may find useful.Salim Ali Institute article is impressive with photos and all. I have also corrected the foramula of conversion (1 ha = 2.5 acre) in Berijam Lake. Looking forward to see the triple hook.

Have a look at my flower and tree articles - Mysore mallige and Kadamba tree? both DYKs. Also, please see my additions on Mahwa tree and Deodara (cedrus deodar). • Triple Hook looks great. Thank you.--Nvvchar (talk) 04:49, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • Below the Berijam Lake DYK hook, it may be advisable to clarify that the article was developed on my sanddbox to avoid comment similar to the one that appeared on DYK hook of the History of Pulicat.--Nvvchar (talk) 05:37, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The name Pazhaverkadu, refers to the mangrove forests. The fruits of
mangrove vegetation give out roots while still attached to the plant.
This
is known as vivipary and is exhibhited by plants like Rhizophora which
is a
common mangrove plant. which are very .The name seems very appropriate
for
Pulicat where mangrove plants are still very common.
