Fair use rationale for Image:ATREE-Logo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ATREE-Logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 02:45, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Palani Hills-c.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Palani Hills-c.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Retropunk (talk) 05:45, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Still at Mukurthi ? edit

Hi Marcus, Hope your travels are going well. Nice to see the work on Mukurthi. Let me see if I can add some material later. Shyamal (talk) 07:27, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah ! Nice to hear. I did help a bit with that booklet on Mukurthi that you refer to in the article. Will try and help out with it when I get my hands on material. You may like to visit Wayanad as well. I see you have eaglenest on your agenda. It looks like more than one person I know are going in the March batch with Ramana ! I hope I can do that someday too. If you have access to the Nilgiris Library edit

Apparently the library in the Nilgiris has some very historic botanical paintings - by Lady Bourne - the wife of Alfred Gibbs Bourne. These paintings were used in one of the earliest illustrated guide to plants written by Philip Furley Fyson. If there is a ghost of a chance of you getting pictures of those paintings, they would be really useful additions. Shyamal (talk) 09:31, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Research of the Protected Areas of Tamil Nadu edit

I was looking through new pages, when I came across this article. I am concerned that in it's present form, it is not very suitable as a Wikipedia article, but it may be suitable for another namespace. Is there anything I can do to help you with that? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 21:16, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

For now, I moved it to your userspace: User:Marcus334/Research of the Protected Areas of Tamil Nadu. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 21:20, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Interesting report, I hope the Tamil Nadu forest department actually recognizes the importance of sharing information on and making meaningful use of wilderness areas. They are probably a lot more comfortable in following the old colonial ways of treating these areas as merely timber cultivation areas. Shyamal (talk) 05:10, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Mary Irene Curzon.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Mary Irene Curzon.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

History of Kodaikanal edit

Hi. I've nominated History of Kodaikanal, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article at [[Template talk:Did you know#Articles created/expanded on {{{21 October 2008}}}]], where you can improve it if you see fit. -RavichandarMy coffee shop 12:50, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your DYK submission of Manjampatti White Bison edit

Hello! Your submission of Manjampatti White Bison at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed. There still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! —Politizer talk/contribs 16:11, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree that your use of the source is good faith; unfortunately, being verifiable to the couple who were with Mr. Rosen does nothing to help the thousands of people who would see this DYK hook. If there's no sources available online, in a library, or something like that, it's very difficult to make a case in favor of keeping that information. I do trust your honesty in having received the e-mail and I hope I can trust the e-mail's accuracy but, unfortunately, that doesn't change the fact that it's unpublished information. A personal e-mail just can't be used to verify information like that...I'm willing to make an exception (thanks to Ignore all rules, which you rightfully pointed out) enough to leave the information in the article, but featuring it prominently on the front page is something else altogether. —Politizer talk/contribs 01:18, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have to agree with Politizer on this point. I think it is fine to ignore all rules and accept the facts in good faith as regards to including the information in the article. However, material that goes on the main page deserves a higher degree of scrutiny and selectivity. Please devise a different hook that is cited to a reliable reference. Thanks.Nrswanson (talk) 01:58, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I left a message at T:TDYK regarding your recent withdrawal of your nomination. You don't need to withdraw your entire nomination just because of this issue; if you still want your article to be examined, you can just suggest a new hook for us. I didn't mean to discourage you with my earlier comments. —Politizer talk/contribs 03:37, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pulicat Lake edit

Hi! Marcus,

I am impressed with your article on Point Calimere Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary. I am in the process of expanding the article on Pulicat Lake. Do you have any satellite picture of the lake, similar to the one you have posted on Point Calimere and also photos of Famingoes?--Nvvchar (talk) 08:35, 15 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, Marcus,

Considering that the Pulicat Lake has suffered under the 2004 Tsunami effect and that it has not recieved the attention it deserves for restoration, I have substantially expanded (almost six times) the Pulicat Lake article. It has not been recognised by the Ramsar Convention in spite of the lagoon being very rich in flora and fauna biodiversity. It deserves international attention. Your suggestion of a reference has also helped in my expanding the article.Since you have also been involved in reformatting the earlier article and making suggestions I thought of requesting you to have a look at this article and nominate it on my behalf on DYK with a suitable hook. Thank you.--Nvvchar (talk) 10:42, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

    • Hi, Marcus,

Thank you for the editing. The Hook that you have propsoed is not referenced. It may invite observations. Since you made quite a lot of changes, why not put up the DYK as a joint one? I could not reply earlier since I was traveling. I just arrived in USA today.--Nvvchar (talk) 04:24, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

      • Hi! Marcus,

There is a commnet belwo our DYK Hook on Pulicat Lake. I don't know which reference he is talking about and if he wants any clarifications from us.--Nvvchar (talk) 02:36, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • A minor fix is required in the Hook. it is better to drop mention of Chandrayan I.--Nvvchar (talk) 00:12, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • Hi! Marcus.

The DYK is through. Thank you very much for joining me in this effort. If you have any other subject of interest on which you want me to work, please let me know.Incidentally, it is my 25th DYK. --Nvvchar (talk) 00:23, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

      • Have a look at the Palani Hills Wild Life sanctuary article. The Info box is all mixed up. It would need fixing.--Nvvchar (talk) 00:56, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
