Articles for deletion nomination of Jeffrey Street Kirribilli

I have nominated Jeffrey Street Kirribilli, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jeffrey Street Kirribilli. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Fair use rationale for File:Map of Kirribilli circa 1840.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Map of Kirribilli circa 1840.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 20:34, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

File:View from Jeffrey Street Kirribilli 2010.JPG

Thank you for uploading this media,

However, it would be nice if you could give some kind of indication as to what license the media is under. That way other people can be confident in making use of it for many varied purposes :)

Adding license information also helps prevent media you've put effort into creating from being deleted :)

You may wish to read Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#For_image_creators which will assist you :)

Broughton Street - Approach to Jeffrey Street vehicular ferry

State Library of NSW has a 1925 picture of Broughton Street - Approach to Jeffrey Street vehicular ferry - see http://investigator.records.nsw.gov.au/asp/photosearch/photo.asp?12685_a007_a00704_8722000188r . Because of its date it fits under {{PD-Australia}}. Some text about the ferry wharf could also be a useful addition to the article.

Other photos available from 1925 are:

Strangely SLNSW doesn't say who took these photos :-(

These photos are of the bridge being built in 1930:

I suggest creating an account at Commons then pictures can be used in other language wikipedias. See Commons:First steps/Upload form for some more information.

Some pictures of the line of terraces would be a useful illustration to the article too in my view. I didn't seem to come across an old picture.

    • Thankyou, I have added some of these photos to the artile. The ferry wharf was also a good suggestion which I have also added. I will create an account at Commons when I work out how :-) I am still learning - this is my first article. Many thanks for your help. I feel that this definitely adds to the notability which seems to be the issue with some observers. AWHS (talk) 13:17, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Metropolitan_Water_Sewerage_and_Drainage_Board_Series_North_Sydney_1890-1896.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Metropolitan_Water_Sewerage_and_Drainage_Board_Series_North_Sydney_1890-1896.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 06:33, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Jeffrey Street Kirribilli

Thanks for keeping. I put a lot of effort into Jeffrey Street over the past week.

I am a newbie. Do I remove the "This article is being considered for deletion ..." sign at the top of the page?

Regards. AWHS (talk) 12:54, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Normally the person closing the AFD removes the notice. Since I forgot to, I've removed it now, but it would have been OK for you to as well. Stifle (talk) 13:00, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Glad to help; I do a certain amount of writing professionally. Mostly I prefer to write Wikipedia articles, but every now and then I'll come across an article that links to something I worked on (HMS Calcutta) and end up editing for a bit. I will definitely have to get to the Jeffrey Street article as I attended St Aloysius' College for four years in the late 1950s. I knew how to get there, I just never knew any of the names of the streets, and certainly not their history. Small world. Acad Ronin (talk) 00:06, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Sensational - it is a small world. I live in the street and my son will hopefully go to SAC when he gets older.AWHS (talk)
