I have Richard Selzer's written permission (June 12, 2014) to use the photograph, which I saw originally on the Albany Writers' Institute web site. I wrote to them asking about the photograph's copyright, and they had no idea. The photo has appeared a number of other times w/o a photographer's copyright. I'm not sure how that permission would work, as the copyright is usually held by a photographer or organization rather than by the subject. I would respond to the deletion discussion rather than here on your talk page and someone there can probably help to answer questions about the image's status. Click on the blue link to "discussion" in the paragraph above yours. Previous use of the photo isn't really central to the discussion though. EricEnfermero (Talk) 21:42, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Neutral point of view

Hi Mahala -

I just took out some non-neutral language from the Richard Selzer entry and I thought I would let you know. I realized that I've trimmed similar material from the article before but that I probably had not sent you a message to that effect. In a nutshell, we strive to leave opinions (and even most positive or negative adjectives) out of our articles, preferring instead to make our points with well-sourced facts.

Just as an example, if an author is successful, skilled, or influential, it's almost never necessary to say those words, because we'll have sourced mentions of all of the notable awards he won or sourced mentions of the influence he had on specific authors. I know it's hard to learn all of WP's rules, especially if you largely work on a single article. Reading about the five pillars may help; these are the five principles that really guide the encyclopedia, and neutrality is actually second on the list. Let me know if I can help you with anything. Thank you, Eric. I'm learning the Wiki way. I appreciate your work. I look at the William Carlos Williams page and others for models. I'm wondering if Selzer's photo could include the information "Richard Selzer (1928-2016), Known for the Literature and Medicine Movement?" It was pointed out to me, Eric, how important Selzer's Wikipedia article is worldwide, and I'm encouraging others to contribute to it.
