So is my last edit more understandable? I should have actually read your revert comments before I posted on my wall, as at least now I partly understand why you did not simply fix my edit. Not how I would go about doing such things, but to each their own and being different is good thing. Kevin "Hawk" Fisher (talk) 16:52, 23 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Kevin "Hawk" Fisher: I have responded at Talk:List of monuments and memorials of the Confederate States of America#New caption to "the chart". Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:13, 23 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
I have really missed the ball, responded more on talk page, but WOW I feel like an idiot now and thoroughly understand where you are coming from lol. Feel free to revert my edit again. I will leave it alone til decision is arrived at. Kevin "Hawk" Fisher (talk) 18:19, 23 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you edit

for acknowledging my (failed miserably) attempt to reach consensus at - well you know where. I have removed that article (and a couple of related ones) from my watch list so will no longer be tracking events there. I feel very strongly that labeling "Jim Crow era" as being from 1894 to 1928 (or whatever) is a gross historical error done to push a particular agenda (this is projection on my part, and it is no doubt more complex than this) that tries to make racism in America a southern thing rather than a national one. I will continue my own research into the topic because I have been studying monuments since the 1980s and am not done. However there is plenty of places on wikipedia where I can edit about sculpture & monuments, and I think I read somewhere that it is perhaps best to NOT edit in places where one has strong feelings. You are probably wondering "Who pulled his string?" and I sometimes wonder that myself. Today is my day to volunteer at the local library and I am showing up with a whole list of interlibrary loans. Mount Vernon revert edit

Why? DCDuring (talk) 23:10, 25 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

@DCDuring: It appeared to be unsourced original research, and the section it was added to was already tagged aa unsoured. Did I miss something? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:42, 26 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
So apparently the normal thing to do is to leave such content in and tag it as unsourced.
Be that as it may, how does one reference a geographic information system the conveys information about the name of a place and within which boundaries it is located graphically not as a proposition. I don't know how to link to the particular view that results from the search that I use, nor am I confident that I could legally upload a screenshot to Commons. I really don't want to have to become an expert in the computing and legal skills that seem to be required, so if short answers are not available, I will not bother to provide the missing information that corrects the unsourced erroneous proposition in the article. DCDuring (talk) 12:44, 2 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@DCDuring: Removing unsourced content depends a lot on the editor reading it. Policy goes both ways on unsourced content. Some editors tag it as unsourced, while others remove it. I remove it. I also feel that if you can't find a reliable source to support your edit, you sholdn't add it. Unfortunately, it often takes up to 30 seconds to locate a source, which is a bit too long for some editors. With that in mind, you wrote (and I deleted) at Mount Vernon, New York:
  • "Also in Mount Vernon is a large portion of Scout Field Park, the balance being principally in Yonkers, with a small portion in Bronxville."
Please see [1].
  • "Straddling the Fleetwood-Chester Heights border is Hunt's Woods. It is a narrow, mile-long stretch of open woods with hiking and nature trails."
Please see [2] and [3].
  • "Originally intended to be part of the right of way for a parkway connecting the Hutchinson River Parkway to the Bronx River and Sprain Brook Parkways, it was purchased from the county by the city for $1 in 1967. Also in Mount Vernon is more than half of the balance of the intended right of way, which is Scout Field Park. Much of the Mount Vernon portion of Scout Field Park is now used as an athletic field for Bronxville Schools."
I have no idea where this came from, and didn't spend time looking for a source. Perhaps you read it someplace, or someone told it to you. Try doing a Google search for a source. If you find one, great! If you don't find one, please leave it out of the article, as it is considered original research. If you need help adding the sources you find to the article, please see Help:Referencing for beginners. I hope this helps. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:22, 2 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
    1. Your sources and/or your reading of them display the sloppy research of which you accuse me. The pdf file from the Mt. Vernon Argus does NOT support the proposition that Hunt Woods is located in Mount Vernon, except by inferences that themselves need support, eg that "this section" refers to Mt. Vernon. The visitwestchester site has erroneous information, as Hunt Woods was sold to the City in 1968. And the LoHud article makes the absurd claim that [Scout Field] "shares borders with Mount Vernon, Bronxville and Yonkers", implying that no part of it is in any of those jurisdictions, when in fact no land anywhere in lower Westchester is not within the boundaries of a municipality. Your suggested sources either don't support the proposition or are erroneous.
    2. As I asked above, how do I display as a source a geographic information system, which displays locations and boundaries? If you don't know, please let me know and, if possible, refer me to a page or person who could answer.
    3. Please HELP. DCDuring (talk) 18:17, 2 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

XXXTentacion's page edit

I want to add that he is known for his violent lyrics and distorted instrumentals because that is undeniably true. That's what people like to make jokes about. He garners attention because he is so brutal. But the only way to cite that is to cite something like a YouTube video where his song is in a funny mashup, or maybe cite his XL Freshman freestyle. @Lavair: Thanks for writing. I did a quick Google search and there are many articles about this, see [4][5][6][7]. The first article is particularly good. If you need help with sourcing or formatting let me know. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:59, 28 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

October 2017 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would like you to assume good faith while interacting with other editors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Austin-geo (talk) 00:14, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Austin-geo: I tagged your talk page because you have only edited Northwest Hills, Austin, Texas, adding numerous links to real estate agents and edit waring with two editors. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:23, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
You could have just asked (and not posted that warning on my talkpage), or read the DYK nomination. You did not assume good faith. If I were affiliated to a real estate agent, I would have probably just used one agency, don't you think? If I were involved with the NWACA, I would have favored their opinions in the Austin Oaks PUD debate. But I didn't. Hence why I'm giving you a warning. Austin-geo (talk) 00:26, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what you're warning me about. Do you want me to stop removing the text you added about places that are miles away from Northwest Hills, Austin, Texas (according to Google Maps)? What is your interest in puffing up an article about a place that doesn't even have a GNIS entry? Why fill it with links to real estate websites, and add descriptions about how affluent the place is? Magnolia677 (talk) 00:36, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Those are points I brought up in the article's talkpage. So we can discuss there. I'm warning you because you could have asked me about my interest in Northwest Hills. Instead, you flagged me with a warning. Learn how to ask before striking. Austin-geo (talk) 00:48, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please remember to assume good faith when dealing with other editors. Thank you. Austin-geo (talk) 13:58, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Women in Red/The World Contest edit

Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:52, 5 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Vincent Massey Secondary School edit

--Agapitus (talk) 18:07, 5 October 2017 (UTC)I am curious as to why my edits to Vincent Massey High School in Windsor Ontario were removed - they were added to a section on football championships which omitted the string of three city championships in the 1960s?Reply

@Agapitus: Thanks for writing. I deleted the edit because you added unsourced content, and added the name of a non-notable person to the list of notable alumni. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:57, 5 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@C-GAUN: Thank you for writing. I didn't know why you had made that change so I reverted it as it didn't seem an improvement. Hello. Do we need to wait two more years before we can upload this picture, or could you please do it now please?Zigzig20s (talk) 04:41, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Zigzig20s: Hi Zigzig20s. I'm not able to see the link to the newspaper, and it's behind a paywall, but based on the death date of Thaddeus Welch, any photo of him was taken prior to January 1, 1923 (the date before which a photo enters public domain in the US). If you are able to link to an accessible photo I can upload. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:01, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

In your travels through the land of hip hop, have you ever encountered someone creating a redirect for an utterly non notable, to a label? And if so, then what? John from Idegon (talk) 05:27, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@John from Idegon: Happens all the time. I can't find an exact example but this is close. As you know, the bar for creating a redirect is pretty low, and they don't have to meet the threshold of notability. That being said, some editors will redirect a non-notable because it enables the musicians' name to appear as a blue link. Then, like the sun rising in the east, there comes a day where an editor will remove the redirect, and create an article in its place (for a still non-notable musician...though not always). Or, following an AfD, they will change the name slightly and create a new article about the person. (Two hilarious commentaries are WP:E=N and WP:SOUNDCLOUDBAND)
There are two ways to deal with it. First, there is WP:R#CRD. Second, I add all the redirects to my watchlist, and wait for them to reappear as articles. Sometimes the article is still for a non-notable, but sometimes the person has gained notability. A great example which demonstrates all these processes is the "cash me outside" girl (see Danielle Bregoli; Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bhad Bhabie; Draft:Danielle Peskowitz Bregoli; Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Danielle Bregoli (personality); and here) You may want to contact the following editors, who are respected and leading editors on hip-hop articles: User:Ss112, User:Binksternet, User:Jennica, User:TheAmazingPeanuts. Map request edit

Hi. Could you please add a map to Maple Dean Farm? Thank you!Zigzig20s (talk) 07:55, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Zigzig20s: This was a weird one. I found the coordinates from a few different sources, but nothing looks as it should on a satellite view. There is a map on the NRHP application form, and a few pictures of the house, but I couldn't find anything that resembled that at this location. Some of the historic structures may have been overgrown with trees. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:21, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Is it on Google Street View? I didn't check. I don't think we have the exact address though, do we?Zigzig20s (talk) 14:25, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Zigzig20s: The NRHP application puts it at 400 New Herman Rd., Shelbyville. Other sources place it there as well. There is a distant street view, but it doesn't resemble the images shown in the NRHP application. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:28, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
There are outbuildings on the farm. Anyway, I wonder if Dean owned other farms/plantations.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:41, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Book cover edit

Hi. Would you be upload to upload this book cover and add it to Constance Bumgarner Gee's article please?Zigzig20s (talk) 09:11, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Zigzig20s: Unfortunately, the image doesn't meet the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:04, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Why do we have covers of books like Living History then?Zigzig20s (talk) 17:13, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Zigzig20s: She actually looked pretty good there. It's because the article was about the book. That same photo couldn't be added to the article about her biography. Because it's a non-free photo, it has to specifically align to the article. An example would be a record cover on an article about the record (but not on the article about the group). Magnolia677 (talk) 17:20, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
There is a redirect of Gee's book though?Zigzig20s (talk) 17:23, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Zigzig20s: I have limited experience with non-free images, but if the image doesn't line up exactly with the article, it's deleted. An example would be this image which used to be on the Money, Mississippi article, but was removed here. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:32, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think it's a little different, given the redirect. Would someone else know please?Zigzig20s (talk) 18:04, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Weidman, Michigan page reverts edit

Have you not been following the reverts to this point? It's not "trivial", it's the best known thing about the locality at this point in time. As with my admonition to User:John from Idegon on his Talk page, do not summarily revert edits when you have a beef with one. You want to fix or contest something, fine, but do not just revert an entire series of them en toto without specific MOS cause. You've been around Wikipedia for almost 50,000 edits: you know better: Take it to Talk. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 20:20, 16 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Wikiuser100: Thanks for writing. I'm actually about to Dr. Pol completely from Weidman, Michigan. This source describes Dr. Pol as a "rural Michigan veterinarian", and Google Maps places the office at 43°39′15.92″N 84°55′37″W / 43.6544222°N 84.92694°W / 43.6544222; -84.92694, about 5 miles drive from Weidman, Michigan. You may want to add the text to Isabella County, Michigan. 20:34, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
First, I don't have a dog in this fight. I only stumbled onto the page. I have no idea why you are being so stubborn and petty, and, in addition, violating Wikipedia courtesy standards with your snide "This is how it is done, friend" edit summary reverting a sound, good-faith edit to the Weidman page. You gotta know you are one eyelash from getting rung up for that sort of nonsense. You have no right to act as you have from your first summary revert.
Second, the cited article is datelined "WEIDMAN, MICH". It's an unincorporated area. What is driving you to be so petty? Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 23:14, 16 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Wikiuser100: Hey friend, I reverted your edit because with this edit you changed "United States" to USA, which is contrary to MOS:US. As well, I'm pretty handy with maps, and I'm not sure the vet clinic mentioned in the article is actually in Weidman. Google places it outside Weidman's boundaries, and I have been unable to locate any government produced map showing otherwise. Interestingly, Beal City, Michigan is geographically closer to the vet clinic, and it also lists Dr. Pol as a notable person. Magnolia677 (talk) 01:46, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
