Lestyn Davies edit

Thanks for this excellent article! A few points:

  1. Just add it at "Lestyn Davies" rather than "Lestyn Davies, countertenor"; it makes finding it easier. If there's already someone else with the same name we use "Lestyn Davies (countertenor)"
  2. It's rather important that you properly cite your sources. If you need any help with that, give me a poke on my talk page.

Any other questions, give me a shout. Thanks for choosing to contribute to Wikipedia :). Ironholds (talk) 12:18, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Just finding my way through using Wikipedia... hope this reply reaches you. Thanks for the guidance tips. BTW it's Iestyn with an I for India, not Lestyn with an L for lovely. Should I remove the link to Iestyn's official website? Rgds, maglinders 12:32, 15 July 2010 (UTC) Mag

Ooh, my bad; that move was me. I'll go fix it now. The official website link should be fine, it's standard practice. Also, remember to sign your talkpage posts by putting ~~~~ at the end, otherwise I get very confused trying to work out who said what :P. Ironholds (talk) 12:54, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much! You may find all my wibble on your own talk page as well. Please forgive a know-nothing try-hard! :-) maglinders 12:56, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Hah, we were all know-nothings at some point! I spent the first two years doing nothing but categorising articles. Ironholds (talk) 14:17, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:Iestyn_Davies037_1-300H.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Iestyn_Davies037_1-300H.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. feydey (talk) 13:18, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello I have stated in the details of the image (when I uploaded it) that it is the copyright property of Iestyn Davies (the subject of both the image and the Wikipedia page on which it appears) and of the photographer Macro Borggreve who was commissioned by Iestyn Davies to make the portrait. It is a publicity portrait which made available for general and unrestricted use by Iestyn Davies for whom I act as webmaster on his official website, where copyright attributions are stated for the public record. maglinders 13:51, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

I have now also added copyright information in the template/form. maglinders 21:17, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Verification needed? edit

No idea how to verify further. All info given at Iestyn Davies is not opinion but historical-factual, in the public domain and therefore verifiable by enquiry at, e.g., performance venues, to which inline links are given in every case. Challenge to any data here is not anticipated as to do so would be otiose.

See WP:REF. For example, where you have a lot of external links in the actual text, there should be none. Rather, if you are referencing a sentence, use an inline citation at the end of a sentence. "inline" refers to "within the prose", but not "within the actual text"; they should be hidden using that tagging mechanism and appear only as [1], [2], et al.Ironholds (talk) 16:11, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Much better :). However, a lot of content is still uncited; "Ottone in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea for both Zürich Opera and Glyndebourne Festival Opera. In Handel's Partenope he has sung Arsace for New York City Opera and Armindo for English National Opera. He has sung Oberon in Britten's A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Houston Grand Opera, Apollo in Britten's Death in Venice for English National Opera and Hamor in Handel's Jephtha for Welsh National Opera and for Opéra National de Bordeaux." has no references, for example. An additional point is that you should not include external links in the text. I'd suggest removing the external links and the people and places they cover, since it's currently a bit too extensive. Replaceable fair use File:Iestyn_Davies037_1-300H.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Iestyn_Davies037_1-300H.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 20:04, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for May 27 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Janet Henfrey, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Jewel in the Crown (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Alastair Miles, opera singer, portrait by Russell Duncan.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Alastair Miles, opera singer, portrait by Russell Duncan.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 00:41, 25 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
