Hello, and welcome to wikipedia!

I noticed that you had some trouble linking to Intermission (film) in the I Fought the Law article. I thought I'd demonstrate how to do this, so that you'll know in the future.

To make a wikilink appear with a term other than the title of the article, type the article name and enclose it in brackets [[]] as normal. Before the closing brackets, however, insert a | (right above the enter key) followed by the alternative text you wish to display.

So, the link you were trying to make in the I Fought the Law article should look like this: [[Intermission (film)|Intermission]].

You can actually put any text you want into the wikilink this way, but obviously you should try to only use this when it makes sense.

Arctic Monkeys MySpace "controversy"

edit

Hi - thanks for the comment at Talk:Arctic Monkeys regarding MySpace. I agree that the paragraph in question was not as clear as it might have been in explaining the situation, so I have given it a work over with a few references. I think it reads a lot better now, and clarifies the situation quite well. If you want to change anything, be bold and edit it yourself. The worst that can happen is that your changes are reverted, but if they are sensible or you include suitable rationale on the talk page, they are likely to be very useful to the article. This is a wiki after all!

Finally, please remember to sign your posts on talk pages using four tildes (i.e. "~~~~"). You can alter the appearance of your signature through the "My Preferences" tab.

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Dufus (band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Dufus (band). If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. (aeropagitica) 20:40, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I have amended the Dufus (band) wiki to include further information about the band, as well as external links (eg album reviews from PopMatters. However, You also applied a speedy deletion tag to the Ball of Design album wiki, and it has been deleted before I was even aware that the tag was applied. I havee links to a PopMatters review of the album, would that be suffice to have the article reinstated, and if so, can I retrieve the material I already wrote on teh article?--Macca7174 13:37, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

The speedy tag on the album article was applied by Ju66l3r. I will place the contents of the deleted article in to a sub-page of your user pages in order for you to edit the text. (aeropagitica) 15:34, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

User:Macca7174/Ball_of_Design (aeropagitica) 17:46, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I see that (aeropagitica) has already gotten back to you on this. I'm sorry your album article was removed but in the initial state, there was nothing I could easily use to verify its validity and its link to the band article (which also had similar problems) further justified that I should suggest it for removal under the same process due to a lack of assertion of notability.
I understand your reasoning for not more strongly assigning notability in your original draft, but that makes it very difficult for editors, like myself, who watch for every garage band guitar player who wants to list their homemade band/albums. When I generate new articles, I may leave sections blank, but I try to clearly state the "why this needs an article" factor up front. Hope that helps. ju66l3r 19:54, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
OK, thank you. How will I know when it is acceptable to reinstate the article? I assume it's when (if) the Dufus (band) Article for Deletion dispute is resolved.--Macca7174 18:06, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

The article has been reinstated and is now under discussion at the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dufus (band) page. The votes so far are keep, so it may well pass in five days' time. (aeropagitica) 21:14, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I changed it as per Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Proposals/2006/November#Gaelic_sports_stub which has the outcome of The result of the debate was creating hurling-stub & upmerge cat, rename gaelic-sport to gaelic-games (Gnevin 19:54, 14 November 2006 (UTC))

Can you please list the sport as either gaelic football or hurling, if the player is a dual player of note eg has played both at inter county level please use {{infobox GAA dualplayer}}

Basicly yes you add {{peer review}} tag and then when it appears you add what you'd like reviewed in this case it would be the whole article have a look at Wikipedia:Peer review/Gaelic Athletic Association/archive1 to see what i put for the GAA review (Gnevin 17:23, 10 January 2007 (UTC))

Yeah it was useful i added 10 + references on the back of it and created {{GAA bodies}} its also spurred on others and the article is alot better now than before the review (Gnevin 19:03, 10 January 2007 (UTC))
When i went to edit the page after you wiki refused to accept the tinyurl as it was on a blacklist , As for the GA it will take time but some one will have to give feedback (Gnevin 16:31, 25 January 2007 (UTC))

Policy suggestion

edit

My guess would be to write a wikispace essay on putting videos in articles and calling it a propsed policy. I wouldn't recommend that though, best way to do it is at WP:VPR, which is basically the policy proposal area. I answered your question here(Gnevin 19:12, 6 March 2007 (UTC))

Dont worry about the links the hard part is done now , I'll run AWB on the link for time to time to keep it under control

As for the discussion about the all stars category's it's the big joke of a nomination i've seen in quite sometime and if the category's aren't kept I'll seriously have to consider my wiki future .

yeah pauric was in the Irish indo, they ran an article about Irish wiki editors . Keep came over very well mentions GAA articles , he said he got the guy to take pictures of the GAA project but it was cut from the final draft.Still any mention of GAA articles in the paper might get people interested. I'm sure pauric might be able to provide more info (Gnevin 17:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC))

Re stub sorting

edit

I noticed you asked about removing ' from O' names and i thought i'd reply in case User:Stemonitis didnt. The reason the ' is removed is because in the category name with ' in them would incorrectly get sorted before A's eg O'Byrne would be come before OAdams, removing the ' gives the correct order of OAdams , OByrne (21:18, 27 March 2007 (UTC))

All stars

edit

The table can be made sortable with image but looks crap. AWB inst much use for the all stars, as for a mac AWB i dont really know , ask over at Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser they will know. I think the Cormac McAnallan one could be jusified but one of him collecting some award would be better . With mcguigan i dont think that shot is very notible ,it's very easy for someone to say just take a camera to his next match. Once again a shot of his collecting something important would great help the case . (Gnevin 13:17, 15 April 2007 (UTC))

Have a look

edit

Can you have a look and test( try to break ) User:Gnevin/sandbox5 (Gnevin 20:19, 20 April 2007 (UTC))

Instead of adding <nowiki></nowiki> to categorys and images you can simply add : ,the plus of doing this is the link still remains eg [[:Image:GAA logo-test4.png]] gives Image:GAA logo-test4.png or [[:Category:Gaelic Games grounds]] gives Category:Gaelic Games grounds (Gnevin 12:55, 23 April 2007 (UTC))

Canavan

edit

Great work of the article , was only a few spelling error's that i could see but that isn't really my strong point (Gnevin 08:55, 30 April 2007 (UTC))

Thanks for reviewing the article for GA-criteria. Ive replied to your points, as stated underneath:

  1. Firstly, the intro is disappointingly short. It should at least name the podium finishers, and perhaps any major incidents. - I know the podium is in the infobox, but if you just want to quickly get a summing up of the race, the intro would preferably contain all the info.
Done.
  1. THe positioning of the picture captioned "The start of the 2007 season" is positioned very awkwardly - perhaps its due to the position of Raikonnen, but it needs to be addressed.
Moved Raikkonen picture.
  1. There are a few typos and grammatical errors that need adjusting.
Can you give me a few quotes from the text of where it is badly written?

Many thanks again for reviewing it. Neldav 16:43, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

4u1e has gone and tidied it up a bit, as per your comments. Can it be put at GA status now? Thanks for your help. Neldav 20:57, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Someone's added bits about Coulthards accident. Can we put it at GA now? Thanks for the help. Neldav 15:04, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

I have no idea about gaelic football, but I did take 5-10 minutes to read the page. A few thoughts:

  • Refs good
  • Never really good to have red links, what I would do, is just have it as normal black.
  • Pictures (although you don't need it for GA standard), it would be good to have a picture, probably around the 2003 section.
  • Is there anyway to convert the templates into one, they seem to take up a HUGE amount of room!!

Only my opinion; hope that's helped! Neldav 19:21, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Will do, you should have a look at Image talk:Petercanavan.jpg(Gnevin 20:04, 11 May 2007 (UTC))
Can you use <s></s> on the done items on User:LaraLove/GA draft (Gnevin 20:11, 11 May 2007 (UTC))
Yes, please do strike out tasks as they are completed. Also place {{done}} at the end of the bullet line.
It's also recommended that you use edit summaries always. In this case, it will help me track and verify progress quickly. --LaraLoveT/C 05:14, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Here Wikipedia:WikiProject Gaelic Games/bio(Gnevin 20:42, 20 May 2007 (UTC))

NA == Non article , its part of the rating scale , i asked User:Reedy Boy to run his bot over a list of GAA articles and tag them , by mistake i forgot to remove the templates from the list so he changed them all to {{GaelicGamesProject|class=NA}}, when i noticed that i ran AWB over them templated and changed them back to {{tl|GaelicGamesProjectTemplate|class=NA}} as it might be useful in the future, hope that explains it (Gnevin 12:51, 26 May 2007 (UTC))

I'm not going to bother it's just the way AWB find and replace changed them it literally finds "GaelicGamesProject" and replaces it with "GaelicGamesProjectTemplates", leaving the {{ |class=NA}} untouched . I was half through fixing them when i noticed so i just carried on as its doing no harm and in some distance time it might be useful(Gnevin 09:58, 28 May 2007 (UTC))

Hi, I got the info from the program from the final. I was also at the 1995 final (and still have the program), so some day soon I'll add results, etc to the 1995 article. Have a few final programs in the 2000s as well, so when I get a bit of time I'll edit some of those articles as well. Just wish I could find a good GAA website which contains details, stats, results etc from times gone past. Derry Boi 01:00, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

It means the Journalist. Derry Boi 21:41, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the image can't be used. WP:NONFREE states that pictures of living people can't be used to illustrate what the person looks like (with the rare exception of recluses like Osama bin Laden or J. D. Salinger). The image will need to be tagged with {{rfu}} or {{orfud}} and be deleted after a week, unless you'd like to tag it with {{db-author}} for speedy deletion. I found a picture of Canavan with Sam Maguire on Flickr. The image is copyrighted, but if you'd like, I can send a FlickrMail to the uploader to see if he'd be willing to release it under a free license. ShadowHalo 18:18, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Haha, I should have looked at the birth and death years in the Sam Maguire article. Easily fixed though. Any free license allows derivative works, meaning that the image could be cropped (and the perspective could be adjusted; note how all the vertical lines in the picture get closer at the top, making Canavan look tilted). I'll see if the Flickr user will release it freely. Regarding the picture for Cormac McAnallen, that's a good question. I've seen disagreement on the issue before. It's not replaceable in the sense that you can take a new picture, but I've seen some people argue that it's possible for someone who has taken a picture of the individual to release one freely. I'd recommend asking at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content or Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. ShadowHalo 20:17, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
No, the rationale does not adequately explain why the image is irreplaceable. Any picture being used to illustrate what a living person looks like needs to explain why it's not possible to take a picture of the person (e.g. Image:JolieCroft.jpg could not be replaced by simply taking a picture of Jolie). The only difference between this image and Image:Denis Law signs for Manchester United.JPG is that nobody thought to tag that image before (Denis Law became FA in 2005, before the policy was strongly enforced). I've tagged both with {{rfu}}. ShadowHalo 22:25, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Canavan goal cropped.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Canavan goal cropped.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 22:05, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
