Notes

edit

Hi! I have some notes for you on Black Disability Justice and State Violence

  • The page needs to be made more non-neutral, as it comes across as more of a way to raise awareness of injustice and to persuade readers to see things in a specific light. The article needs to be written in a neutral point of view.
  • I've been looking at the sourcing and offhand the sourcing seems to address disability justice in general rather than specifically Black disability justice. There isn't an article on disability justice, so my recommendation would be to create an article on disability justice in general. I'm concerned that there isn't enough sourcing to really justify a Black disability justice article on its own, especially since the focus of the article is so very specific - it specifically looks at BDJ as it applies to state violence, at least per the title.
  • I'm also concerned about original research - while this would make for an excellent paper, you tie in a lot of things that aren't specifically about black disability justice per se. Something to keep in mind is that we can only summarize what has already been written on the topic in reliable sources as it pertains to disability justice or black disability justice. Unless something is specifically tied into the topic along the lines of "This is related to that" in a reliable source, it could be seen as original research to tie them together or draw conclusions based on sourcing that doesn't explicitly do this.
  • I removed the list of names. Lists like this are often controversial on Wikipedia for several reasons. The first is that the list must be neutrally titled. The words police brutality are extremely loaded because what's considered to be police brutality is heavily debated - even in cases where it seems obvious that it was brutality. The big list of deaths by police officer is named "List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States" because of this. Another element of lists is that the people must have an article and they must also specifically have sourcing that qualifies them for the list. Finally, the list should also fit into the page. Typically basic pages on justice such as social justice and racial justice don't have lists like this and the list looks to have been more added to persuade the reader to see things in a particular way. Long story short, lists of this nature are controversial and aren't typically included in pages of this nature.
  • With organizations, I'd recommend giving just a brief overview of them as opposed to highlighting specific ones. The reason for this is that there are a lot of different organizations out there, so listing them doesn't really give a good overview of the assistance and activism out there and puts undue weight on these specific organizations. This tends to open up questions sometimes of whether these are the most notable organizations or if they were chosen due to personal preference.

I hope that this doesn't come across too harshly - it's just that Wikipedia is fairly picky with articles. I think that it would be best to make this into a general article about disability justice and of course have a subsection about Black disability justice or even minority disability justice in general. • Oh! Another quick note - when choosing sourcing for topics like this (and in general) it's always better to look in academic and scholarly sources first. You do have it in here, but there's also a heavy reliance on Internet sourcing. Be careful with this, as not all content on the Internet is seen as a reliable source. What really prompted this extra message was that you used Wikipedia as a source - however as anyone can edit Wikipedia, it's not seen as a reliable source and cannot source itself.
