About copyright on Wikipedia..... edit

...please read this. The problem here is that the content of Wikipedia articles can be freely distributed, which is why we can not incorporate verbatim or closely paraphrased information from other websites which might fall under copyright. Lectonar (talk) 14:40, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK thanks for getting back to me. Was it the section on 'The Natural Resource Charter Precepts' which was in breach of this rule? Or was it a general problem? Regards, Max MGW NRC (talk) 14:56, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Actually, it was more of a general problem....if you have not done so already, have a look at WP:Yourfirstarticle, and our policy regarding conflict of interest. Cheers. Lectonar (talk) 15:27, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

So the issue regarding conflict of interest was separate and in addition to the copyright violation? I asked about an affiliate of an organisation creating a page about their organisation and was told this is possible if the information is appropriately sourced, which I thought I had done. So if I want to create an article about the Natural Resource Charter I need to (a) check that all content is original and nothing is closely paraphrased (b) include more references. Correct? I'm just trying to find out exactly what I did wrong so this does not happen again. Is it possible to create a page and have this reviewed / edited to avoid violating rules prior to final review? I had thought that was the point of the sandbox. Again, your advice is appreciated!MGW NRC (talk) 16:45, 3 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
