I affirm that I have no substantial interest in the Miss Gay America pageant, past or present. I believe in the MGA pageant system because of those who I know have held America title, but I gain no notoriety or profits from this wikipedia page or the pageant. I only took information available through basic research and pulled it to a single place; this is event is one one of the oldest and continuous public LGBT events, and it important to be recognized as such. It has been the basis for many documentaries and books, of which I also have no direct affiliation with. --MGAR2020 (talk)
Fair enough. Your username seemed a bit suggestive that you were affiliated with the subject, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
The article still needs some improvement. I've fixed the headings, as per MOS:HEAD and WP:Section caps. The long lists of titleholders and competition are a bit problematic (WP:IINFO) and really ought to be pared down. Finally, you should look for reliable sources (WP:RS) that are independent (WP:IS) of the subject to verify the information you're putting in. Miss Gay America edits edit

Hi, could you please stop reverting my changes to the Miss Gay America article? I have just finished a lot of cleanup work on it as part of the May GOCE drive, such as removing unnecessary and unreferenced info, cleaning up the lengthy tables, and adding citations, per Drm310's comment above. While I appreciate your contributions to the writing style and some of the formatting, you must understand that I created this page because the current website lacks organized historical value. Unlike the real Miss America, former Miss Gay America's are celebrated long after they've passed their titles - they are an institution on their own. I've spent a long time compiling this information, and it's no where near complete. We're talking 45 years of an average of 60 national contestants per year, plus the many state and city titleholders not even mentioned in this article that have shaped the LGBT movement.
It's very important the top 10 listing be maintained, but the former titleholder's section is so freaking long because of it. I'm going to attempt to form a different Wikipedia table in the section for that listing. This way it will provide the information, but reduce the cumbersome length of the Former's section --MGAR2020 (talk)
Hi MGAR2020, I understand that the information is very valuable and important to those who follow the subject. However, much of was not cited and I was unable to find any WP:RS for it. I removed a few of the details that I could not find references for, and added 'citation needed' for others. Also, there is no need to have such extensive detail on each contest as WP:IINFO. The table does not need to have the top ten winners for every year; that is why I removed all but the first and second alternates. That kind of detail is something that should really be left for an independent website on the subject (Which by the way I think is really necessary, and possibly something you should set up, as it was VERY difficult to find up to date independent information on the subject outside of the pageant homepage itself - which is a primary source that I hesitated to include in the first place - but there are really no other sources for this!). If such an external website is set up with that information, then the Wikipedia article can link to the page if any visitors want to see a full breakdown of winners year by year. --Hustlecat (talk) 13:00, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
