I am not arguing with you. However, I still do not understand the concept.::Okay, I found the copyright tag and labeled it {{tv-screenshot}}. It was still marked as "no copyright tag". How do I fix it? Image:T.C. 1.jpg is going into the Theodore “T.C.” Calvin page, as soon as I figure out what is wrong with the copyright image. Then, I am fixing the licensing on Image: Jonathon Higgins, to tvscreenshot. Will that solve that problem? Third, what picture then should go into the Harrison Ford infobox? Query regarding fair use of team logos.

Hi Mecu,

I have been working articles on The Indianapolis Colts (my home team) for several months now and find that one of the more divisive issues for me is the size of the logos in use. This has shown up particularly in the "season" articles of late, where the inordinately large displayed logo has seemed to me to be an issue.

When I reduced the size of the logo from a 150px to a 100px image, it was immediately reverted by User:Soxrock. I attempted a dialogue to compromise with him on the size of the image and came to a dead end. I didn't want to get into an edit war with him, as I do understand that I don't own these articles. But, my frustration led me to examining more NFL team pages and more image files, thinking that a weight of evidence might help to be convincing.

This resulted in me seeing a history of uploads and reverts to image sizes which mostly revolved around User:Soxrock, User:TheSportsLogosMaster and you. Exploring further, I saw that a large number of these logos come from the same website: [1], which maintains a large stock of copyrighted logos. There is a claim on this website which basically says that all of the logos retain their original copyright and permission for use can not be provided by the website owners.

Again, digging deeper, I saw that most of the logo image files claimed fair use as on of the following:

• NFLTeam logo 1997-present, claiming fair use http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?lo=xxx (showing a image location)
• NFLTeam logo 1997-current, claiming fair use Copyright: Sportslogos.net (no location, but claiming a copyright)
• NFLTeam logo 1997-current, claiming fair use Copyright: Sportslogos.net http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?lo=xxx (copyright+location)

None of the logo images that I reviewed contained an actual fair use rationale (as dictated by the template).

So I am in a quandry...

First, with regard to the licensing:

• Should Sportslogos.net be listed as a copyright holder for the image, when they claim the opposite?
• Should all of the images actually have a fair use rationale?
• Should all of the images have a source location listed?

Second, regarding the upload image size, some of the images from Sportslogos.net are very large physically (albeit small in file size).

• Does this meet the "low resolution" claim in the licensing template?
• Should they be resized before uploading?
• How can the image size reversions be precluded (edit wars)?
• Since the large-sized images are on WikiPedia, doesn't that compromise our database, since we follow free-->forward.

Third, with regard to the actual use within an article (which is mostly esthetic):

• Can the Season template force the image size to be be within a restricted size or does it depend on the original image?
• Is there a WikiPedia guideline which lays out how large the images should be in an article?

So, I have probably overused my quota of questions in this query, but you seem to have a grasp of both sides of the fence, both the image uploading side and the image control side.

If these questions are not something which you have the time or expertise in answering, could you please re-direct me to the best source for help?

A free version of this image cannot be created since this is a mugshot image relesed by the police department and not an image taken by an ordanry person (also a mugshot image of the person is better for the background section than an image of the person standing trial (which can go into the trial section) or him being transferred). Per a request on the template talk page, I am trying to add functionality to allow this template to work with both college football and basketball. I'd appreciate your feedback. You can use multiple templates on page, just as I did on my test page. So I don't understand that argument. I believe that, where appropriate, templates should be combined. There is much overlap in the two already. Also, what do you mean different enough in the long run? I'll still leave it open for discussion before making any changes. Fair use reduce?

You have tagged an image that I recently uploaded to wikipedia - 40px - and I was wondering what the issue is. I have informed the Scout Association who own the images of what I am doing with them, and they have not taken issue with the use of the images in wikipedia articles. Copyright question

Hi Mecu, I've been asked by a user (a photographer) how they could add there pictures with limited copyright, for instance, there more than happy to upload them for use within wikipedia, but just don't want to release it completely free from copyright. Help regarding your response regarding the copyright tagging of images for Bruce Hornsby

I've sent the permissions to m:ORTS for all of the images, but I do not know how they should be tagged. The owner of the copyrights has given permssions for these images to be used and, in accordance with the form letter Wikipedia offers for making such requests, he has agreed to make the images totally free for anyone to use in any way they see fit. I still don't know how to tag the images now, though, while I am awaiting response from m:ORTS, nor do I know how the images should be tagged afterwards...any ideas? What to do with my image

its your little bro here. what do i do with the barnstar i created? it is for the excellent usage of edit summaries, which i feel are very important. i put the media up at the commons, but how i do create a template for it and neat little tags so other users can utilize it?

The Peace Fund

Hi Mecu!! I finally did it!! I created my own original article!! I'm not that excited about it really...:) Anyway, I was shopping at Macy's and they are having a Shop for a Cause Event on 3/17. I've incorporated many of the changes that you suggested. As to your comments on notability - I doubt that very few articles achieve a high standard of notability upon creation. That would be a bit like being born a grownup. That being said, I did insure that a level of notability was established as defined in WP:ORG. The establishment of the organization and some of its contributions were the subjects of independent second sources. Now that the article exists, I am sure that our community of editors will continue to evolve it toward the highest standard of notability - as is being done with other articles. As you can see on my user page, I've already made a note to myself to look for more citations. The editor request service should be a good place to start. Of course, the information I find will be added to the article in accordance with the NPOV policy. As for apologizing for your harshness - if your usual ascerbic tone should suddenly soften I might just keel over in shock.--LtlKty^{talk | contribs} 18:18, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Temporal Issues

CU colors

It's all right. I've flown off the handle at people before as well. The only chore I can think of is getting some GDFL images for the UCB page to illustrate Norlin and Macky, and maybe a picture of Folsom as well. Image Help Time

i created an article about an american artist Chet Zar, and was given permission to use an image of his on wikipedia. the image came via email, with his blessings. its up for speedy deletion because, im guessing, that there are problems with images that can only be used on wikipedia. however, it also says that art, if its used to show a style or for critical value, can be acceptable under these terms. it hasnt been deleted, but i assume it will. how is one supposed to display the works of an artist? i figure since the image is very important to the article, and i have written permission, there has to be artistic exception. i asked the owner for a portrait. he sent me the image that he felt best represented his work. im not going to ask him to relinquish rights to the image, as that is not fair. i also dont want to bug him to create his own account, and upload the image as his own work. what to do...The undertow

Would you mind helping?

I am trying to start a wiki that is focused on wrestling and video games. I figured that since it uses the same design as Wikipedia (MediaWiki, or whatever it's called), that I could basically copy wrestling and video game templates like {{Template:Infobox Wrestling event}} and {{Template:Infobox VG}}, but they aren't working. Here is what I ended up with [4]. Would you mind creating a few templates there? Specifically: Template:Infobox VG, Template:Infobox Wrestler, Template:Infobox Wrestling event and Template:Infobox Wrestling team since those are the only four I would really use. Transparent/Opaque Backgrounds to Images

Why have you marked several of the images I have uploaded as Opaque when they are obviously transparent?:

• Image:Morph-Rich-Logo.png
• Image:Scr-Fx-Logo.png (I have corrected it already)
• Image:Bush-Rdo-Logo.png

Well, I made them myself, and ensured they have transparent alpha channel. If you look at the morphy richards logo (it's the easiest to see), it has a checked background. J.P.Lon 01:32, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I just had a look on IE (I used NS) and it shows it with a darker background on IE, but shows on the Morphy Richards page having a white background. J.P.Lon 01:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I think that you're right... the behaviour we want from Fairusein with a null parameter is the same as Template:Nrd; a big deletion warning and population of deletion queue. Image Use

I asked my adopter TeckWiz this, and I was told to ask you. I was looking for pictures of some relatively obscure bird species that I started articles for, and I was unable to find any that weren't copyrighted. Could you recommend some ways to get images, or tell me how copyrighted images can be used in an article? Thanks Australian Raven 21:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

So sorry to bother you again, but I have a question regarding requesting permission. I found the form letter, and I'm assuming I use my own email. Is it really necessary to give my name? • Hi Mecu, thanks for playing with my table. It is definitely prettier now, but it is no longer sortable. Being sortable is one of my prime objectives. For instance, I want people to be able to quickly group together all the FA's or all the articles I started or all the articles I took a picture for.   • Hmmm... Well, thanks for trying. With the table the size it is now, it is not a big deal, but I plan to make this a big table, so the sorting could be an important feature. I guess I could put the "yes" in front of the check-mark-symbol (like I did with FA/GA). That seems to allow the sorting to work. I do like the color coding you put in on the FA/GA column.
