Promotional materials

Hi,
(same story ... sorry) you deleted an image I uploaded (Image:Keith Fullerton Whitman.jpg), but you disputed my {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}. The image was a promo picture (from here), which was released to the press and other resources (such as Wikipedia) for use. Yes, it has "(c) KFW", but the purpose of the high-resolution photographs are clear, and don't have any associated copyright risks. Furthermore, the resolution of the image I uploaded was reduced, and source URL made clear. Could you explain with a bit more detail how promotional material, such as this, is handled by Wikipedia? (And/or any links to Wikipedia policies regarding this matter?) Thanks.+mwtoews 00:02, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

April Ryan

Hello, I'm here to inquire about the artwork of April Ryan that you recently deleted. I'm positive that I don't recall it being tagged for deletion at any point before the 5 of July (which was when I last logged in), and although I admit that preliminary tagging is not required to just go and delete an image without a FU rationale, the uploader should generally be given a chance of correcting their carelessness, shouldn't they? Thus, I would like to reupload the image with an appropriate FU rationale, if you don't have anything against that. :) --Koveras ^☭ 15:09, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

OTRS

Mecu, is the "permissions-en" section at OTRS backlogged? Haven't seen any updates lately to images whose license permissions I've sent in (User:Videmus Omnia/Free Images). I'm not complaining - just fairly new to using WP:ERP and want to make sure there's no problem on my end. Semper Fi - Videmus Omnia 00:49, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes. The permissions total queue was down to 200 a few weeks ago and has ballooned up to 400, mostly in the permissions-en queue. If there's a critical image that needs attention due to possible deletion or something else, I can look into it, but otherwise, the queue is slow and always backlogged and I've been busy at work and football is starting up so I have less time for WP. OTRS letters

Hi Mecu. This post might seem like its coming from nowhere, and it might be, so bear with me. Recently, User:Zscout370 reviewed some GFDL permission letters I sent to the OTRS system and deemed the letters to be "faked." Consequently, User:Jeffrey O. Gustafson deleted 6 images which I had documented permission for, since Zscout370 had estimated my letters to be forged. Jeffrey O. Gustafson does not actually have OTRS access, and apparently deleted the images solely based on Zscout370's accusation. Well, long story short, they weren't faked, and I have been able to get 4 of the 6 images restored by Zscout370. The remaining two image:Bob Ostertag.jpg and image:Cool Calm Pete.jpg were deleted presumably before the OTRS correspondences could be reviewed properly, and so Zscout370 doesn't want to restore them. (I guess just because reviewing the OTRS documents is not what he usually does). During this process, he referred me to you, since apparently you've reviewed my GFDL permission letters before, and that you might instead be able to restore the images, review the letters, and tag the images appropriately. I know it seems like out of nowhere that I am asking you this, but Zscout370 thought you'd be the person to talk to. If that is possible then great, if not perhaps you might be able to suggest another course of action for myself or Zscout370. Thanks for your time either way. Drewcifer3000 08:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

A little help

I've been going through a lot of band pages and have been removing album images on artist pages in discographies and have been tagging images with {{subst:rfu}}, {{subst:nsd}}, and {{subst:nrd}}. I came across an image Image:Bobby-dall-2004b.jpg where the uploader released it under a CC license when it's obvious that it's not his because he links right to the source. Can't this be speedily deleted? The only thing I can find what to do with this is to put it up for images for deletion, which is a huge pain for what I'm doing right now. Just wondering if there was a tag or something that I could quick add while I'm browsing through all these articles. Alright, thank you so much for your help. Seems like a hellofa backlog on those images. Just one more question and I'll stop bugging you. This image Image:John Gotti.jpg says "This image is a work of a United States Department of Justice employee" but I can't find anything that he was an employee of the Justice Department. Actually, that's an image from the Wikimedia Commons, which is a different project - however, the image was likely released by the FBI and is in the public domain because of that. Videmus Omnia 03:46, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

At Commons:Category:People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, there is a statement attributed to PETA saying that they do not consider their material to be copyrighted and an OTRS link. Can you confirm that this statement is accurate and applicable to images other than the ones that we are currently using? I would like to add some images to Dog fighting. They have one at [1] that would be nice to use. Can you confirm whether the OTRS ticket contains sufficient permission to use it or whether I should make a separate request? Let me rephrase

1) this is an officially released image from DoD in the public domain so it is not covered by copyright. The DoD reference number is: DDN-SC-86-04120

2) I took the picture so I am the source. I was in the Navy when I took it and I gave it to the Still Photo Branch of CHINFO who sent it to DoD for release due to its uniqueness. The date was in 1986 and it was an 8 x 10 so no website applies. It's from my collection.

I work in this business and have provided my images to others and used imagery shot by others as well and am very familiar with copyright guidelines. Perhaps you are unfamiliar with DoD and US Navy photos and their releasability in regards to copyright? I say this because enough info has been posted to satisfy even the most discerning publisher yet you continue to ask for more info and assume that all imagery comes from a website. Photo was uploaded with appropriate Wiki label as a US Government image AND the reference number (that is the "exact" source). That puts it into the public domain, period. Not everything is on the web although much (but not all) of the DoD collection is on the DVIC site AND searchable by the reference number or subject or photographer. Regardless, I took the picture and released it and that is noted as well.

College football school page names ("American"?)

Mecu, I noticed that user Jmfangio has recently changed the names of a number of college football school pages to include the word "American" in the title. See:

• Brigham Young University Cougars american football
• Georgia Bulldogs American football
• Michigan Wolverines American football
• Notre Dame Fighting Irish american football
• Virginia Cavaliers American football

"American" included this way in the title is redundant and clunky. The lead of each page should clearly define the article within the scope of American college football. I tried to move the Michigan page back to its old name, but I could not do so. Could you weigh in here and/or assist with the page moves.

Hi Mecu

I need a bit of advice. I've had two speedy deletion notices put on pages I created today. I created them because the article I'd been reading about the Albion Country Band included them as links but there were no articles about them.

If they're of no significance should the original article be amended to remove the link marks [[]]?

Hey MECU. You left me some suggestions on how to improve this article in its peer review. I'm still pretty new to Wikipedia so I do not really know how to do what you suggested. I also have a question about a picture taken before January 1, 1923. I found it on a website but just because it was taken before 1923, does that necessarily mean that it was published and therefore qualifies under fair use rationale? I would like to include this picture into the article because I have plans for this particular article to reach good article status. Any help would be much appreciated.
