oi :)

Hi, likewise. We need as many South Africans as possible on this place to ensure our lovely country doesn't get under-represented or worse, misrepresented. One extreme example is how the article on Apartheid became another Israel-Palestine conflict page, virtually ignoring what Apartheid really was, a South African system, and part of our history.
So, yep, it's great to see another South African on Wikipedia! Impi 19:25, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hi MD, good to meet you. Thanks for your message on my talk page. I guess it doesn't matter too much what message gets used... we seem to managed to get a nice little article started between us and particular Stan. Hope to see you around in the future! Pcb21| Pete 23:26, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Clock towers and the Clock Tower

edit

As there are no clock towers called the Clock Tower that I know of (or probably at all), there is no need to move Clock Tower to Clock Tower (Westminster). ed g2stalk 00:27, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I agree the case sensitive of wikipedia is a bit odd, I've added disambiguation link to the top of Clock Tower which I think was needed. ed g2stalk 16:42, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)

The Humungous Image Tagging Project

edit

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Thanks for your tip on the Olympia Oyster - see Talk:Emeryville, California, and look at the article to see how it was handled Leonard G. 06:18, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Cities and towns

edit

Hi MDCore, The suburbs that you are refering to used to be towns but are now part of the Cape Metro. If they were always suburbs of Cape Town please let me know or change them as I've only been to Cape Town twice in my lifetime, hopefully I can visit again soon :-). I only did the list last night and need to still go trough some of the links that are not appropriate. If you want you can fix them, thanks for the heads up.

Anyway why don't you put your username on a list of South African Wikipedians at Wikipedia:Wikipedians/South Africa --Jcw69 12:56, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the nice comment on my talk page! I've only just started redoing the UCT article; I'm planning to get it into the structure at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Universities, although that is sometimes a bit USA-specific. - htonl 15:30, 22 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Wikimania 2008 in Cape Town

edit

Hi. Would you be interested in helping to ensure Wikimania 2008 is held in Cape Town? If so, please go to the Cape Town bid page, and sign up on the discussion page. Feel free to dive right in with adding suggestions, or fleshing out the bid! I'd greatly appreciate any help, no matter how small. Greenman 23:59, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

South African Wikimedia Chapter

edit

The idea of setting up a local Wikimedia chapter has been discussed by South African Wikipedians (and those associated with other Wikimedia projects) for some time now, and we want to help turn this dream into a reality. There are currently over 25 chapters established around the world, and several more planned and being discussed, but so far, none in Africa. A South African chapter, should it become a reality, would be a continental first. If you're interested in being involved in the creation of a South African Wikimedia Chapter, could you please email me directly at wikipedia@africancommons.org. Kaydee 68 13.53, 08 June 2010 (UTC)

South African Wikimedia Chapter update and mailing list

edit

Hi there. Local Wikipedians have set up a mailing list where we will be discussing the formation of a local Wikimedia Chapter in South Africa. Please join the mailing list at this url https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediaza. There is also a page set up on Meta where you can add your name if you're interested to take this idea forward. Check out http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_South_Africa. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:22, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa

edit

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

Best regards, Islahaddow
