Sure, post them here. I have a fairly extensive collection of SK first editions myself, but unfortunately I think I'll end up downsizing them a bit since I'm moving to an island in a few months. As part of the moving process, I'm more or less giving various posessions away to people at random, so if you have any holes in your collection, let me know. It's a small island then? I have everything except The Colorado Kid (2004 - never saw it here in Oz) and someone borrowed my copy of It and didn't return it. I'd chase them except I can't remember who it was (early Alzheimer's). I have read Lisey's story and enjoyed it, though it's not in the league of The Stand, Dead Zone or the Dark Tower series. What was your reaction to the final installment of that? I threw a frustration tantrum.Lystrablue 00:39, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Quickest and funniest way to answer your question? Almost everyone refers to it as simply "the big island". So, no...it's not small. The problem is, it's quite expensive to ship everything there. So I have to weigh (literally and figuratively) all of my possesions. As books are relatively heavy, and I have a lot of them, I'm paring my library down a bit. (Who really needs "The Complete Guide to Tube Socks: New and Expanded Edition!" anyhow?) I had a similar reaction to the last DT book, although maybe for different reasons. I didn't have a problem with the looping-through-time ending, I just felt that too many things had been left underexplained or not explained at all, and I didn't really like the idea that all of the other tie-in books were essentially rendered into meaningless red herrings. What did you think?

Ah, Hawaii. I've been on that big island twice for a week each time staying at that big Hilton resort on the west coast. Once in Dec 1995, when I also ran the Honolulu marathon in a monsoon, and then again in Dec 2005, when I watch the start of the marathon from the comfort of my hotel room before flying back to Sydney. You can guess which trip was more relaxing. However, compared to the size of the island I live on, Hawaii is pretty little!! There were a few red herrings, weren't there? I was uncomfortable with SK writing himself as a character into the books as well (what's that called again??). It blurs the line between fiction and reality too much for my liking. A copy of Colorado Kid would be excellent. I'm debating whether to ask you for the tube socks book as well - it sounds rivetting. Perhaps I could send you "Do it Yourself Brain Surgery, Combat Hamsters and other Hobbies" as a replacement.Lystrablue 09:26, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Invitation

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us.
