Shoshannah Stern

Well, according to her IMDB page, I'd say so. I still think the wording in that sentence is somewhat awkward, but I'd say it's confirmed. Was so long ago I posted that question that I don't really care enough to change it anymore though. Lurlock 22:12, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Demographia

Hi Lurlock. How's your work on the list on the world's top cities going? Just for curiosity, did you need the information for a private project (that's how I understood it) or for Wikipedian work? The reason I ask is this discussion, where someone tried to use my mention of Demographia as an argument against my views on the Copenhagen Metropolitan definition.--Pjred (talk) 15:57, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

It is for a private project, though I suppose I could share the list if you're interested. Mind you, it's very subjective, particularly on the lower end of a scale. Part of the reason for this was that I was using the data to populate a map, and I ended up leaving out a lot of cities (particularly in more crowded regions such as Germany, Japan, northeastern US, and parts of China and India) just because I couldn't graphically fit the labels in and still make them readable. But at any rate, I didn't need 100% accuracy for this, just a good baseline to start from. The project that I'm using this for is meant to be a fictional world set many years in the future, and the list will be changed significantly (again) to reflect the story line. (e.g. more cities appearing in northern Canada, Russia, and Scandinavia, and possibly southern Argentina and Chile, to represent the effects of global warming, and then there's all the political stuff - you can't make a map of the future without making political statements, unfortunately. Do we free Tibet? Taiwan? How about Kashmir - part of India, Pakistan, China, or its own country? How much more will change in eastern Europe, a region that's seen a lot of national boundaries shift in the last few decades? Stuff like that.)

I do think that any such list is going to be unfairly biased towards China and India, simply because of the greater numbers of people living there - going by population data alone, they will always overwhelm any list. So another stage of this will be trying to get other data, such as the GDP and GNP for each city (when possible) and using that to determine the overall "wealth" of a city, and adjusting the importance value accordingly.

All of this is of course way beyond what I expect to be able to do on my own, even with the help of such resources as Wikipedia and the other demographics sources you cited. (That's what the writing staff will be for once we hire one.) But of course, this list will unfortunately be subjective by its very nature, and certainly qualify as Original Research (which they really hate around here), so I doubt I could get away with putting this sort of thing in a WP article. You're welcome, I guess? I just stumbled across the show on the On-Demand channel on cable, and when I went to look it up here I just found a couple of bands. I'm sure the article could use a bit more work - some descriptions of the episodes, maybe, and some kind of template side-bar like a lot of articles have, but I'll leave that to people who know how to do that better.
