DIAS and the McCarthy report edit

You can't simply delete a text becuase you don't like what it says (see policy WP:I just don't like it). However you can certainly delete a text if it is not supported by citation, or it does not faithfully summarise the citation. The text cannot draw its own conclusion (as that would offend against WP:Original research or WP:Synthesis or both.

But the popular press has drwan inferences that the DIAS in in doubt, so we can't simply ignore it and say nothing, as that would be equally biased. Therefore the obvious thing to do is go back to the primary source [which we always prefer, and it always takes precedence over tabloid news] and report faithfully what it has to say on the subject, citing heavily - see WP:Citing sources. I would be content for you to do the work. --Red King (talk) 14:00, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

My intention was to assist you by pointing out the relevant policies that can assist (or hinder) you in writing a truthful summary of the report insofar as it affects the DIAS. I hope you find them useful. Best wishes with the rewrite.
I withdraw the reference to the popular press: I realise now that I inferred it from the words of the earlier editor wrote. I am hoist on my own petard of failing to rely on primary sources. --Red King (talk) 23:53, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
