copyvio... edit

... i'd already marked it on WP:CP ;) --BesigedB 23:33, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Hi, I am the violator of the copyright (not really a violation actually). The original author (John Hauser, also my father) gave me permission to reuse his writing and picture in the wiki. This is the first entry I have created, thus I am not sure how to take care of this violation. I posted that I had permission in the discussion page of the entry. Is this enough? I apologize for any problems I may have created. Thanks ahauser 19:32, 28 Dec 2004 (EST)
  • Thanks for your reply. As I told BesigedB, the original bio is at http://web.mit.edu/hauser/www, not at the AMS page. AMS simply copied it from there (obviously with my fathers permission). It seems like the AMS page has a general copyright notice for all their pages, which is why it seems like the bio is copyrighted by them. In any case, even though the bio is owned by my father, I will simply re-write the bio to avoid any other problems. Thank you for your patience in this. ahauser 21:11, 28 Dec 2004 {EST)

Kart f/Fighter edit

Lucky, I'd never noticed before that speedy notices contain an invitation to delete them (for good reason, of course). For the first time ever, I removed one. Please don't hesitate to slap a VfD on Kart Fighter, though. -- Hoary 02:15, 2004 Dec 29 (UTC)

6.9 fix edit

Glad someone finally realised what I was talking about on the 6.9 page. Thanks for fixing it. PMcM 16:06, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Lucky 6.9, Melromero anonymously posted the following to your main page at 02:38 on 2 Jan 2005:

To who has taken the time to file comments on my book additions. Whatever has been included in the above listed pages is NOT a copyright violation. The information doesn't come from any website, but its based on the advertising information of the aforementioned books (which are in my library by the way.) That information, by definition, is intended to be of free distribution, thus it doesn't fall under any such category as to be construed copyrighted. I appreciate your concern on the matter, but in summary: a) said information has been somewhat rewritten to make it coherent; b) it's free information, and as such, free to be distributed, and c) I do not appreciate threats, either direct or implied. So I would appreciate sincerely that before issuing them, you do review your facts a little better.

I've simply moved it here. Hoary 03:14, 2005 Jan 2 (UTC)

Melromero, it's not very clear what you are talking about, but perhaps it's blurbs on books. Whatever their purposes, these are copyrighted. Hoary 03:14, 2005 Jan 2 (UTC)

Deletion question edit

Hi, Frank. I sometimes edit anonymously via 67.52.188.182. Got the message regarding the deletion notices. I don't think it was me, but could you cite an example or two? If it was me, I don't want to make the same mistake again. Thanks. - Lucky 6.9 17:35, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Heya, the only one I can remember is Sevens from hell; with the current server state digging in histories isn't that much fun, I hope that's enough indication for you. --fvw* 17:45, 2005 Jan 6 (UTC)

Hey, Ralph, Ryanosaurus put a vfd header on your User page and listed it on the VfD page. What did you to do p*ss him off? RickK 00:00, Jan 12, 2005 (UTC)

Congrats on the "Jeopardy!" article making the "Did You Know?" section! I stumbled on that article the other day when I was surfing the new pages and meant to comment on it then. It's one of the best esoteric articles I've ever seen on this site. - Lucky 6.9 17:50, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks Lucky, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's root section from the Jeopardy! article was just getting a little to cluttered, and when I started to clean it, it got long, so why not spend an hour more researching a weird pop culture craze? -- user:zanimum

Bandit cleanup edit

Just thot I'd let you know I've started methodically going thru the US soap opera 'what links here' pages, and changing actor-name redirs into stubs, such as Michael Sabatino. You may be pleased to note that I'm always re-writing the intros so they are Wikipedia style instead of Bandit-ese. Niteowlneils 02:38, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)

There actually don't seem to be as many as I expected (it has been 6-8 months since the bandit was most active)--When I left the note I had done about a dozen, and thot I was just beginning, but I found few others that way (about halfway thru the alphabet I gave up checking old (ie ended in the 70s or before) soap operas on List of soap operas, as they didn't seem to have anyone the bandit was interested in), so I switched to checking all the contrib lists at User:B-Movie Bandit and its Talk page, and only found a few more thing to tweak, so I'm basically out of ideas of how to find any other bandit things needing cleanup, if they even exist. Niteowlneils 19:04, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I see what you mean about the Bandit finally making constructive edits--s/he actually fixed a couple of my mistakes, and added a bit to Wendy Moniz here. Niteowlneils 01:19, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know that I was mid-edit when it appeared that Searles Castle was targeted for Fast Delete because it looked like a blank page. This is my first article so I'm sure to screw-up. Anyway, I've restored it and hope for your indulgence. I will be expanding this article as time permits and/or others jump in. Thanks hydnjo talk 00:21, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

RC Patroling edit

Keep fighting the good fight, sorry about your patroling being misconstrued. :) Drop me a line again if there's another problem. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 17:17, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)

Vanity articles edit

I see your note at TAMER M RASHDAN. I would love to speedy delete this article, but vanity is not a speedy deletion criterion. Putting it up for Vfd is our only option. However, I'll leave it be for a little while to give you a chance to respond.-gadfium 01:47, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I use the nonsense, vandalism and lack of context reasons for speedy delete as much as I can justify, but I have to follow the rules.-gadfium 02:00, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)

bizzare-sex-act articles edit

I googled some of these and they do get some hits... these may be real slang terms. Maybe they're VfD, but apparently not patent nonsense or his imagination... although the "Superman" seemed like a hoax, so I deleted it (throw a woman out the window after having sex, illegal in most jurisdictions). -- Curps 04:39, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Your user page is now fixed edit

According to the deletion log, I was the one who deleted your page, but I did not do it on purpose. Either there is some strange bug, or I did it accidentally. I restored it and reverted to the last pre-deleted version. I appologize for the inconvenience. Academic Challenger 20:45, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

to the manual of style, I'll try to format pages better in future. Whoops forgot to sign! Do you have any more template code for stuff like pic of the day? Wikipedian231 17:21, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories edit

I removed the speedy mark from the page after I added stuff to the article. WhisperToMe 05:21, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

oops edit

yea im kinda new to making wikis, i accidentally created a new entry when i wanted it to be a "sub" folder or something under starcraft. I guess it isnt possible, it has to be one big long page... I tried to remedy that when i got hit w/ the copyright thing. Thanks for your help.

Hello again edit

Howdy pardner. Long time no see. Yes, I'm back. Now that the arbitrartion ruling has been finalised in my favour, Samboy seems to have learnt his lesson, and I'm looking forward to writing articles again. Nice to see that Gzornenplatz was finally unmasked and banned for a second and final time. Should make life a lot more pleasant for everyone. Anyway, I have a new work email so drop me a line if you want to hear the boring details of what I've been up to lately: george.cruickshank@newsnet.com

  • No more Gzornenplatz? I thought things had been quiet here! I'll be in touch. - Lucky 6.9 01:55, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Gzornenplatz was discovered to be a sockpuppet for Wik, so they gave him a hard ban, since he was doing the same behavior of getting in to zillions of petty revert wars. I haven't "learned a lesson" as "Gene Poole" insinuates; I simply am willing to give him another chance. Samboy 04:21, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

David Oreck edit

Thanks. I agree, he's amazingly active at that age. I thought I would find something about him here. I can now. :) --Rj 22:56, Mar 3, 2005 (UTC)

User:Vaoverland - administrator edit

Thank you for supporting my appointment as an administrator. I appreciate the pat on the back this represents. It felt nice to read the comments during the voting. Please let me know if you see something I should be doing as admin, as I intend to be fairly passive unless it is clear I should do otherwise. Thanks. Mark in Richmond. Your message edit

No problem (and I agree with the judgement, although the Japanese concept does exist). Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:07, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

No harm done (though if I hadn't noticed, your message would have appeared on the Talk page of every new user whom I welcomed; you left it on the template of my welcome message...). If I'd never made a mistake myself, I might have been more testy about it. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:45, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Soap article policy proposal edit

Since you edit soap articles, I figure you might be interested in the policy proposal I've brought up on the talk page for the Soap WikiProject. If you haven't done so yet, be sure to sign your name on the regular page, noting that you support the work in such a project. Mike H 08:27, Mar 9, 2005 (UTC)

Judith Chapman edit

I saw the recent edits to that article from the B-Movie Bandit. 1941 doesn't seem right at all for Judith. I saw her pictorial in SOD in 1977 and she did not look anything like 36. Early 20s...mid 20s at the oldest. You do need to ask her her age, though, as rude as it may be to demand that of a lady :) Mike H 10:23, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)

Vidiot edit

I apologise if you think that vidiot is a nonsensical term, but in the circles that I grew up in, it was used frequently to describe someone who plays video games, generally someone who plays way too many of them, but that is neither here nor there. I am new to the concept of the wikipedia, and I was unaware of what the delete tag did exactly. I once again apologize and want to say also that I am using a computer at my college, so blocking the IP may not be the best idea.

My adminship edit

Thank you for voting for me for adminship. I appreciate the confidence you showed in me. I am grateful that so many longtime and prolific contributors supported my request. — Knowledge Seeker 09:07, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Speedy Delete for Guru Granth Sahib Ji edit

Instead of deleting, redirect Guru Granth Sahib Ji to Guru Granth Sahib—it's a common variant. 12.74.169.132 05:41, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

You are quite welcome. 12.74.169.132 05:46, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I googled up a couple references on him. Didn't remove your speedy tag, but I'm not sure this is a csd anymore. Regards, Michael Ward 15:15, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Shucks edit

I actually had to look up what "nonpareil" means... Thanks! Take care, and may the speedy tag never fail you! :-) Ta bu shi da yu 10:34, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Samaritan Aramaic edit

You wrote: Hello! An article stating that Samaritan Aramaic is a variety of Aramaic spoken by Samaritans isn't really an article but a circular statement. I've redirected it to the main Aramaic article for the time being, but if you can add any info regarding the differences between the two languages and other facts, by all means feel free to do so. Since ancient languages seems to be your forte, I'm confident that you'll do just that. Best, Lucky 6.9 18:06, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The only reason I created a separate "Samaritan Aramaic" article is because the article on the Samaritans, which I did not write, referenced it. I noticed this while putting together the Samartian category. At some point I may try and learn enough about Samaritan Aramaic to write an article; in the meantime, I think the redirect is sufficient. Thanks!--Briangotts 18:29, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I'm just trying to learn to be better about this kind of stuff. So. what makes this article a "db|utterly without content" vs "movie-stub". I do agree that the content was at the very least meager but it may have inspired someone to expand it into a useful article. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and clarification. hydnjo talk 22:32, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I didn't realize when I posted above that the article Heidi already existed. I agree that if someone thinks that there should be a separate Heidi (film) article that it should be much more substantive than what is already available in the Heidi article. I'll rv to your previous. hydnjo talk 23:34, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Also, I certainly hope that this article didn't draw my attention because my wife is Heidi (31 July 1952) or that I was born in 1937, both of which are significant in the article.  ;-) . hydnjo talk 04:33, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Coffee Crisp edit

I did some major re-organizing (and info adding) on the Coffee crisp article. I hope I did not lose any of your information. Please check it and tell me. I added years to each of the flavours but I think I might have made it confusing. --Munchkinguy 22:43, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Heidi is sight impaired so I read a lot of stuff to/for her. So, after I read our discussion to her, she (after LOL) asked again what your User name means. I said (again) "I have no idea, just use your imagination, WTF nobody knows what hydnjo means do they? We're having lots of fun thanks to all of the activity in Wikidipedia:Back office places. In fact we're spending more time in the Wikipedia namespace than in the Article namespace. hydnjo talk 23:13, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Well, that would probably never have made our short list of name explanations but we had a hell of a time making up our own ideas! It took a while to explain Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 to Heidi but now she understands and hopes you rev the hell out of it. Excellent (lucky) find. Thanks for your understanding comments. We'll be (as you know) watching you. hydnjo talk 01:32, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I added him to the recent deaths the other day and was going to write an article on him today, and then I saw you'd already started it.  :) Any idea where we can get a fair use picture? RickK 00:10, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for being rude but I don't have much time... I don't know who you are, but please, before you go on your spree of Speedy Delete may you please check the news [1] to see if a story like this could possible be true -- Red Lake High School massacre -- as you must know by now, this is a very important event in today's current affair... so instead of delete maybe we can expand ...hope you understand PEACE - RoboAction 04:50, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
