License tagging for Image:Portrait of Theodor de Bry.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Portrait of Theodor de Bry.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

I found your information to be very interesting! I had never heard about our family originating in Switzerland, & the Celtic aspect is fascinating. I would love to hear more of what you know, if you would care to email me. My email address is available to you--linked to the minor edit I made to your page. Sorry about the typo, spelling Scotland incorrectly. I couldn't figure out how to edit my edit! All of us in America whom I've run across spell our name DeBry. Family lore hints that maybe we have a few links to French Huguenots, but we have records from The Netherlands back to the 1500's, some which may predate that movement, so I have to investigate that further. I am familiar with Theodore de Bry. I was told by elderly relatives years ago (I am 57) that when an older member of the family visited relatives in Holland, he saw some beautiful paintings by other DeBrys. Do you know anything about other artists in the family? I have always had artistic ability, as do one of my daughters & 2 of my sons. In the sixteenth century there was a family of painters with the last name de Bray, Jan de Bray being the best known, I believe. I saw some of their paintings in an exhibit of Dutch paintings in Washington, D.C. years ago. I'm pretty sure the catalogue for the exhibit spelled his name differently; I don't have it handy right now. But I know the Dutch language did not have a letter "y" back then. In the records we have, our ancestors' names were spelled De Breij, the "ij" making a "y" sound. Later, the "e" was dropped, leaving De Brij, & then finally, DeBry. So I am curious if Jan de Bray may have been a cousin? He used his family for models for his paintings & they look a bit like us! lol There is rather a distinct DeBry look! — Preceding unsigned comment added by LDeBry (talkcontribs) 22:34, 18 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
