Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Loxdale. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Hugh Loxdale, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 10:39, 7 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Multiple accounts edit

  You were told previously that in general it is not permitted to use multiple accounts for editing, and you said that you would not do so, but you appear still to be using both this account and User:Hugh David Loxdale. This must stop, or else both accounts are liable to be blocked. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:33, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear David,

           Thank you for your message. I originally opened the second account believing (wrongly as it turned out) that I needed to do this to work on a second Wiki entry completely unrelated to the first. Anyhow, I have received mixed messages since another Wiki editor implied that this was okay (as he said that he had also two accounts). I am most happy to cancel one of the accounts, but need your advice please as to how I go about this: How do I close an account? Should I stop using the first account, or the second one? And then what happens to the one I close down?

Best wishes,

Hugh Loxdale Loxdale (talk) 14:25, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Just stop using one of the accounts. Nothing will happen to it or its contributions, it will just stay here.
You do not need two accounts to edit separate Wikipedia pages. Here is a list of valid reasons to have multiple accounts; I do not think any applies in your case, or that your use case warrants a new one. TigraanClick here to contact me 04:59, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
