Welcome!

Hello, LowlanderToo, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

You may also want to take the Wikipedia Adventure, an interactive tour that will help you learn the basics of editing Wikipedia. You can visit The Teahouse to ask questions or seek help.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Again, welcome!

I agree, your draft looks pretty good now. We get a lot of articles about minor academics submitted and without references it's usually difficult to tell whether they are notable. Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Verifiability are keys to this, but I think you have probably already read them? Deb (talk) 10:55, 18 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Rachel Fewster, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Durham. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Unsourced personal information

edit

Hello, I'm David Eppstein. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Eamonn O'Brien (mathematician), but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! —David Eppstein (talk) 05:40, 12 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. The details are at https://prabook.com/web/eamonn.o_brien/475839 . LowlanderToo (talk) 06:05, 12 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
That is not a reliable source for Wikipedia purposes. —David Eppstein (talk) 06:42, 13 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Okay, chuck it then. I also had the information from somewhere else but don't recall where I got it. So we'll have to wait until his 60th birthday conference which is imminent but probably I won't bother with this detail again.
I realise the importance of getting these details right, noticing with sadness the mess when Sir Vaughan Jones died. LowlanderToo (talk) 07:16, 13 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your helpful comments, Missvain. I have recently become involved with the Trust and have been impressed with what they have done but of course that opinion is of no use in this context! I have found a radio interview about what the Trust has been doing and will add that but even that is 12 years old. LowlanderToo (talk) 04:07, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Draft:Motu Kaikoura Trust

edit

Hello, LowlanderToo. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Motu Kaikoura Trust".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 21:30, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Liz. It's a pity but at this stage the Trust is just getting on with its good work without too much publicity. I've decided to take advice from another helpful editor to improve the Motu Kaikoura page and can include some relevant stuff I have gathered there: like lots of other things, it's a matter of time. Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

edit

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
