Image copyright problem with Image:LMHOF2.jpg edit

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:LMHOF2.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. 15:45, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

September 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Robert Parker (singer) has been reverted. Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): rule: '\blouisianamusichalloffame\.org\b' .

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks!   Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Clarence "Frogman" Henry do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Irma Thomas. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it.

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Jimmy Clanton. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits. The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to John Fred, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.

for Beetstra or other administrator.... i have had my usernamne of Louisianamusichalloffame for almost two full years (11-2007)... in the past i have added links to our inductees and was, today adding links and induction info to current inductees... i was also adding, after many requesta a page for our organizationm in addition to creating pages for 3 of our current 27 inductees who do not yet, for some reason, have pages... The Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame is a certified IRS 501c3 tax exempt, not for profit organization... our "determintation" letter from 4-2007 is, in fact, poster on our website for worldwide viewing... our organization works under La Musique de Louisianne Inc (which is the actual 501c3 entity) as "The Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame" as granted by signature of The Louisiana Secretary Of State.... we are not spammers and do not believe in such... we are not directing attention from your site, nor do we pretend to be anything similar to your site... we are attempting to educate specific users with interest in our Inductees as to the scope of the careers and achievements of our inductees by showing them the path to our not for profit online museum.... we are similar to The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame or The Rockabilly Hall Of Fame, The Museum of The Gulf Caost, the Delta Music Museum, etc. - we do not charge for the dissemination of our information... ever.... we are an educational site and honorarium... the fact that the US internal Revenue Service, after much submission and paperwork, has certified us as such should speak volumes..... this info is simply stated on our newly created page, is stated in more verbiage on our web site, and is, in fact true.... PLEASE remove this "block" immediately....... If you bother to read or look, you will find more than sufficient information to do so... for instance: go to our web site and check the names of our inductees and check to see if we added a link to anyone NOT in our honorarium..... check to verify that the certificates of induction are shown with the signatures of two Governors of the State Of Louisiana.... check to see if, in fact, you do not, in most cases, see these individuals in acceptance of their honorarium awards....— Preceding unsigned comment added by Louisianamusichalloffame (talkcontribs)

(copy from my talkpage):
I am sorry, the link additions are totally inappropriate. First they are pushed without discussion (see WP:SPAM, second, the link is to the mainpage, and that page does not tell anything about the artists the link is on, third, you have a conflict of interest (see WP:COI); that guideline does suggest strongly that you do not do such link additions yourself. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it is not a linkfarm or an internet directory, and certianly not a place to promote your organisation, even if it is non-profit. Please contact an appropriate wikiproject (see Wikipedia:WikiProject), and discuss the link with them. --Dirk Beetstra T C 19:31, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

how do they differ from links to the rock and roll hall of fame (who posted their own) or to the rockabilly hall of fame or to the delta music museum (who posted all of their own)- the web site is a database website it does not deal with direct links to individual pages... for instance robert parker is reachable through www.lmhof,org then inductees then robert parker... this style has been used to prevent pirating and unauthorized use of (mainly) video content, and works very well.....i have been working with this problem and i will be happy to, for instance change robert parker's to http://louisianamusichalloffame.org/content/view/36/42/ this path may or may not work after any database changes to the site... also, this is to his inductee home page only, which includes his gio, artwork from induction (with Governor's welcome) etc.....his galleries for video(s) and for images would be found in two different paths due to the level of shielding and dual layer flash...... robert parker, again for instance, is 70+ years old and does not understand how to operate on the internet, therefor making it virtually impossible for him (or others) to post their own info...additionally, we are, in essence the repository for THE website for robert parker and others, as they also cannot afford to build or to gather the info, graphics etc. to build with....LMHOF does these things for our classic artists as a service for no pay whatsoever...we never take anything from our artists, period. Would a routing similar to above satisfy your issue with the link(s)? I might also add tha tother links have, in fact, been in place for many months.— Preceding unsigned comment added by louisianamusichalloffame (talkcontribs)

That others do the same is by no means a reason for you to do the same, it may just mean we did not get to that, or that they did discuss, and that their way of linking was appropriate. Your way of linking, and your persistence in adding the links (the refusal to discuss when you were repeatedly pointed to that; I count at least 6 'warnings' for that) is not appropriate. And the comment on my talkpage gives me the feeling that it was more important to you that you were linked, than that you were supposed to improve this encyclopedia. We are still writing an encyclopedia here, not a linkfarm or an internet directory. I am sorry, I'd prefer you adding content as well (if you have a site on them, you must be able to expand (some of) the articles and use the information as a reference. If the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame is notable enough, then even a mentioning of that in the text would be more appropriate than just an external link. And if you are not able to link to suitable content directly, then maybe your site is simply not suitable to be linked like that, and you will have to be satisfied with a "Because of <reason>, <Someone> has his own place in the Louisiana Musichall of Fame", and find a proper reference for that (e.g. newspaper items where that was published). I therefore suggest that you discuss this with an appropriate wikiproject (see Wikipedia:WikiProject, maybe Wikipedia:WikiProject Louisiana exists (appears so, it is a blue link)?) before you perform any further edits (by the way, we appear not to have an article on this music hall, which makes linking to it also questionable ..). I hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:40, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

if you will remove the block... i will be happy to try direct links to the inductees pages which include extensive bios and artwork, music snippets and verbal greetings from the artist...we simply (1) linked as we had previously with no problems, we were simply updating our info on wikipedia in an available time, as we had done for a year previous..... (2) linked as had many other honorariums on wikipedia, some mentioned previously (3) are, in fact, trying to add a tremendous amount of information to wikipedia (4) did NOT receive any of the warnings until after all was said and done... no warnings were recewived while the links were inf act being made...only after the fact and all at once!!!!! (5) LMHOF is mentioned in many texts, where appropriate, denoting the fact that our inductees were inducted (6) our policy is not to alter existing wikipedia information, except by addition to reflect induction of the artist, or, if, in fact, there is no page on an inductee existing on wikipedia... we respect the writing of others in honoring our artists (7) are not spammers in any form. period..... (8) we have massive amounts of unique information, in most cases directly from our artists themselves, representing thousands of hours of research and work that we are attempting to share, in an attempt to enlighten and educate, through many paths, including wikipedia— Preceding unsigned comment added by Louisianamusichalloffame (talkcontribs)

(1) Well, there is on top a remark from November 2007. When I follow these edits, the user who left a remark then reverted you, and you re-performed the edits. Since then they have been removed (and you hardly edited since November 2007) and start again on the 24th of September. And yes, if no-one notices, then link may stand for a long time, but that is not a guarantee that they are fine. In fact, all the links you added in 2007 were removed, since you needed to readd them now.
(2) Also, again, that other links are there is not a reason to add more.
(3) Adding links is not, in fact, adding a tremendous amount of information to wikipedia
(4) As I said, you were early on informed, and yes, if noone notices. But your latest edits attracted attention. Sorry.
(5) Yes, I believe it can be a good resource, that is why I suggest to contact a wikiproject, and/or discuss, before adding more links. They may be useful as references, not just as external links.
(6) ...
(7) As defined on wikipedia, and with this type of edits, well. Call it 'link pushing' if you prefer.
(8) GREAT! Add content (preferably referenced), not external links.
I will unblock you shortly, but I urge you to not perform link additions yourself until they have been discussed with other editors who are knowledgeable in the field (with sufficient, positive response to the links), you can find them in said wikiprojects, or looking at edit histories of some typical pages (look for regular editors on the page). And when you see the orange banner popping up, please discuss if others have concerns. Thanks for the understanding! --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:23, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

((unblock)

as per the last entry from several months back quoted below...please remove this block....

  • again, the purpose of the use is to correct and add information to wiki only....as was the case with LMHOF inductee Dale Hawkins...we are an educational foundation with 501c3 non-profit certification...we do not seek anything but to disseminate correct and updated information on our honorees, specific artists and musicians of Louisiana...by not allowing the updating and correction of your info, you do a total disservice to the world...your wiki is filled with incorrect information..we try to correct what we can within the sphere of our honorees and...when we altered the link paths as per instruction, i.e. going straight to the person's bio page, we were again blocked.....we did not wait until "nobody was paying attention"...we have a massive project and undertaking that requires hundreds of hours week in and week out....wiki was simply not at the top of the priority list, but was on the list.....you have a valuable asset, but if you myopically disallow the flow of correct info, you do not live up to your mission...

"I will unblock you shortly, but I urge you to not perform link additions yourself until they have been discussed with other editors who are knowledgeable in the field (with sufficient, positive response to the links), you can find them in said wikiprojects, or looking at edit histories of some typical pages (look for regular editors on the page)....

(and I gave more answers there; underline added for emphasis). You did not consider anything of that. Again, this is indeed an encyclopedia, based on content, 'not on external links to content. We are not a linkfarm or an internet directory. You said you have a lot to add, but you fail to do so until now. I hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:27, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Per the unblock reasons I gave when I unblocked your accout on the 25th of September. I asked you to discuss your linkadditions, and to not perform them yourself before that. Still you insist. I am sorry. --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:36, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

for "Beetstra" did you want me to specifically discuss any additions with you personally? directions previously given in re - no info on page directed to - is not correct - these are direct links to the actual photo, biography, interview and informational page on the individual, done with his/her direct consent and participation}}

please take time to go look at what you are blocking...

is this not an educational encyclopedic site? then what is your problem on linking to the most comprehensive biography on the person, done with input and participation from the person within the last several months?

your block on Dale Hawkins was done as I was attempting to reconstruct his bio, after someone had bastardized it with a fake..... if you go to that link you will find a fully comprehensive bio on Dale along with current pix of Dale...and, if you were to continue on that site elsewhere, you would find many more pix of Dale and much more on Dale.....

As I said in my last message before the unblock message (diff):

Request reason:

as per the previous, please unblock us....

reason: we are not spammers...LMHOF is a certified 501c3 non-profit educational and preservation foundation.... reason: as I read, this was supposed to be unblocked, and wasn't statement:a web site glitch, at one time, sent individual's info through a front page...that was corrected, thanks for the heads up... we began adding our people, with correct and verified information culled from a myriad of sources, including oral history interviews with the person...we apply hundreds of hours every week toward research and compilation of data and artifacts on our honorees (and future honorees)..we work in conjunction with the Louisiana State Archives, and all of our research is duplicated and stored for safety in the Louisiana State Archives... the Louisiana State Archivist is, in fact, a member of our Executive Advisory Board...our last round of problems was last fall, when we tried to correct information on our of our honorees pages, that hd been altered with totally wrong info..our source for correction was archived info and the person himself as double verification....we do not try to fill your pages with lengthy info...we instead mfeel that a reference to a page where they can get at length correct info, and be given the option to learn more by viewing artifacts and viewing performances by that person and hearing oral hhistory from that person is not a bad idea...you guys have an encyclopedia, we have a museum...lastly, we do not wait until nobody's looking or whatever was said, we have many, many other tasks to do on a daily basis involving our project, foundation and museum...when someone notifies us that an error is on one of your pages, we try to correct that..when we honor an artist, we add that info to their page, as do most other HOF type foundations....

Decline reason:

You have been blocked because you were adding your site indiscriminately in violation of our conflict of interest guideline. That is, on wikipedia, a form of spamming. Also, your username is not allowed per our username policy. Please choose another account which does not have those problems, and I strongly suggest that you first discuss with editors on talkpages before even thinking about adding links or other material about your site again. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:35, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
