Tornado pages edit
Here are some hints:
1) For co-ordinates, the SPC Storm Reports site for that day will normally have that information. (note: the days used are from 1200Z to 1200Z, not calendar days - which are 0600Z to 0600Z in the winter and 0500Z to 0500Z during DST - that are generally used on articles unless otherwise indicated.) Often, you will have to look in the wind reports to find the details since tornadoes that are unconfirmed often go there initially as only damage was found and no actual tornado or obvious tornado damage, especially in the eastern and southern states and at nighttime. Rarely, especially for Plains tornadoes, no co-ordinates can be found - that can be left blank until the NCDC Storm Data reports come out (for February, they should be out around May).
2) For damage and distance details, the NWS offices for the area involved are the best place to look. If that does not work (i.e. they do not have it on the home page), then the Public Information Statements should have that details (go to the NWS site then Text Bulletins: By Message Type then look for PNS and the office involved).
3) Media and unofficial reports are NOT to be used as sources for tornado ratings or distances (but they are okay for damage reports). For confirming tornadoes, only official NWS reports can be used. (Such typically happens with major tornado outbreaks that have large amounts of fresh and conflicting data and many, many more viewers).

- Thanks for the tips. I am completely new to trying to edit that format. I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out how to add co-ordinates before I finally decided to give up. Next time I add a tornado I will try to add co-ordinates.
- I was in fact aware that NWS information was the only source to be used for confirming US tornadoes and it is where I have obtained all the information I posted. The primary reason I noted that a complete check of the information was needed was because I was using a set of survey points from this page to obtain information on the Granite City, and Troy, IL tornadoes. I couldn't find a survey summary so I assume that they are not finished. Lou1986 (talk) 22:19, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
