Hi Lauren, sorry to interfere with you here, but we are not so familiar with wikipedia. We have discover through Google cache that our website was on wikipedia blacklist. We are very disappointed to read that Allo' Expat is treated this way. We can assure you that nobody in the Allo' Expat team is a spammer. We don t know how but we believe that somebody, maybe our competition as spam wikipedia on our behalf. We would be very thankful, if you could look into this matter and clear us from your spam section as it affect our company integrity. Formatting "URL accessed" dates

Since you've been editing these (in the Abu Musab al-Zarqawi article), I wonder if you know more than I about how these work. Specifically, is there any way to get anything other than the ugly [[yy-mm-dd]] date format to display? I tried putting the dates into square brackets, but this just screws up the formatting altogether. Since the rest of the article uses the month day, year format, it would be nice to get these dates to play along with it. ==ILike2BeAnonymous 22:58, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Regarding AOL Vandalism

The vandalism (removed from WP:AIV) persists. I've removed at least 4-5 vulva photos in the last 20 minutes. Just figured I would give you the heads up. I won't post it anymore though unless an admin wants me to. --Alphachimp ^talk 07:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, AOL vandalism is a pain in the butt to put it mildly. I removed the last batch of AOL IPs since they hadn't been used for the last half hour... most likely the vandal had moved on to other IPs. Please keep reporting them though. While there may not always be an admin watching at the right time we might be able to stop a few in the act. If you'd like I can also semiprotect your user page or any articles the vandal seems to favor. -Loren 07:03, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

They don't seem to be favoring anything in particular. Actually, AOL has yet to vandalize my page. I really hate this vandalism because it is inserting pornography through wikipedia. I'd hate for some little kid to log on and find it in an article.

AOL range vandal

I noticed that we were getting frequent vandalism from the vandal's IP range 207.200.116.0/24. The telltale sign for now seems to be closely spaced vandalism originating from 207.200.116.*, usually one every 30 seconds or so. Most of the recent edits seem to have fallen into the category of intentionally screwing up Wikimarkup [1] or adding nonsense [2]. It is possible that the recent edits from this range were simply a coincidence from different users, though the fact that they occured within a few seconds of each other seemed suspect. The vandal's last confirmed MO (earlier today) was inserting gibberish [3] or malformatted equations [4] across multiple articles. The vandalism seems to have stopped following the expiry of a 15 minute block I stuck on the IP range. This and past patterns exhibited by the vandal leads me to suspect that we are not dealing with a bot. The most recent edits from that range seem to be mostly okay so far. This would appear to be consistant with his/her past behavior of disappearing for several minutes to hours after a range block. -Loren 04:32, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

To be fair to all parties involved in the dispute, I reverted the page to a version which predates the current edit war between yourself and RevolverOcelotX. The version you are referring to occured in the middle of the edit war. I'd appreciate it if you and the other parties involved could come to a consensus using the talk page before making any further changes. Edit wars are disruptive, and while it may be satisfying to repeatedly revert the edits of someone you don't agree with, they don't work out for anyone in the long run. In the interest of fairness to all those involved in the naming conventions dispute I've reverted Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese) to a version which predates the current edit war. I know it's not a perfect arrangement, but for the moment I think it's the best I can do without interfering directly in the dispute itself. I've looked at Bonafide.hustla's contributions, while it's clear that he has some very strongly held opinions, for the moment it appears to be a content dispute. Mass reversions aside, I don't see any evidence of anything resembling blatant vandalism at the moment (i.e. sockpuppetry, really blatant misinformation... etc). I think it would be better for everyone and the project in the long term if you tried first to work out your disagreements through dialogue before pursuing further escalation. This is a sensitive topic for sure, but from past experience I do think consensus is possible. I will look into possible 3RR violations, however again, I'd stress that such blocks do not provide a long term solution. -Loren 07:08, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Okay look, I already went through the same scenario with this user last month on the same issue. I remove the warning because it's irrelevant since I did NOT violate 3RR. So anyway I crosspost this from my talkpage A. One is perfectly entitled to remove such warnings from his/her talkpage. An admin support my claim.[[5]] Another user removed my warning from his talkpage.[[6]]. To add to that the warnings is justified. An admin support my case. [[7]] [[8]] [[9]] support from another user. Read the full length discussion on User:Bishonen talkpage under the heading User:RevolverOcelotX.

B. Even if I am not allowed to remove such warnings, the warning clearly isn't justified. According to the history of List of Chinese Americans and Anti-Secession Law of the People's Republic of China articles, you would see Bonafide.hustla and RevolverOcelotX had both made 3 reverts in the past 24 hours 2 days ago. However, when the initial warning was placed by RevolverOcelotX I made only 1 edit to the article, making the warning totally irrelevant. He placed the warning on the ground that I BROKEN the 3RR on my user talk page after the final warning. As evident in the above discussion, an admin states that 3RR does not apply to a user's personal talkpage. The accusation is groundless. Thanks for the clarification, however please note that the intent of the 3-Revert Rule is to stop edit wars. Period. It is not an entitlement to revert three times in a 24 hour period, rather it is ment to encourage editors to try to work out a consensus through dialouge once it is clear that a dispute exists. I may have missed it but it doesn't appear that either you or RevolverOcelotX have attempted to make use of the talk page of the article in dispute. Again, I'd rather not take drastic action due to a content dispute (though I will if absolutely necessary). Please try to resolve this through dialouge on talk pages of the relevant articles. The diffs Bonafide.hustla provided are completely irrelevant and he is attempting to water down this issue. Wow, that's a blatant lie by Revolver. Last month, I did post on his talkpage, but the attempt was futile and I ended getting an unjustified block (see my block log and explanations). Admins later suggest that we don't post on each other's talkpages to avoid further conflicts. On that talkpage, Revolver was not even there until yesterday (possibly watching my contributions list) and engage himself in the discussion. As for David Wu's article, I choose NOT to edit war during the discussion and the history shows. Okay, I've gone over the entire exchange at Talk:David Wu, clearly, the dispute on that particular article has been going on for sometime and is probably ripe for mediation. Nontheless, I strongly suggest that the two of you try to address each disputed article on a case by case basis. Clearly the dispute on David Wu is still unresolved despite much debate, however you should at least try in good faith to address the disputes on the other articles on the relevant talk pages. Who knows? You may actually be able to come to some sort of consensus, or at least get opinions from other editors. Do you think that is right? I read on your talk page that you are a supporter of Taiwan independence thus you sympathize with the DPP and TSU. So obviously you wouldnt care would you?

In response to your other allegation regarding my personal political views, I intervene when edit disputes become disruptive to Wikipedia as a whole, irrespective of the POV being promoted. No one is 100% neutral, but I think my past record (which you are free to examine) has been fairly evenhanded in that I've been accused of favoring pretty much every possible side in the whole Taiwan debate by various editors at various times. I would say that I find it puzzling that you seem unable to seperate my personal views with my course of action in intervening, but given the behavior I have observed you engaging in, doesn't come as a particular surprise. I am not asking you to change your political position, nor am I asking you to leave. TfD results for Template:Disputed islands claimed by Japan

Remember Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2007 February 5#Template:Disputed islands claimed by Japan ? You accused me of WP:POINT there. This TfD has closed with "no consensus", after a vote of 11 to 6 in favor of delete. Among the people who voted on either side, many seem to agree that similar templates should be made for other countries, if this template is kept. Now, if you agree with the outcome of this TfD, I'd like to go ahead and insert all the templates for United Kingdom, Argentina, Israel, Syria, PRC, and ROC again. I don't think infoboxes is a good substitution. I created the template for navigating territorial disputes specifically for a country, in this case, Japan. It was for interested readers like myself who wanted to read about territorial disputes specifically of Japan, so that's why it's centered around the country having the disputes instead of centered around the disputed regions. Requesting your help with English to Chinese Translation

Hello, I'm looking for someone who could help me translate a bunch of words over to Mandarin Chinese. The words are names of planets for a Firefly fan project I'm working on. If you're not familiar with the show it's a sci-fi "western" series and the characters speak a mix of English and Chinese. The planets in the series have various names like Ariel, Osiris, Deadwood, Londinum for example, and when they appear in star maps schematics they're usually indicated in Simplified Chinese characters - I assume written phonetically like Japanese Kana characters are used to integrate non-Japanese words but I'm not sure how Mandarin speakers go about doing this. I don't trust on-line translation programs because I get different results with different programs, and sometimes they don't work at all. Hrm... I'm not sure how much help I could be here. In general, most non-Chinese names can be (and are) translated phonetically, however, there really isn't any standard for how this is done. You could pretty much use any character that sounds similar, so there might be half a dozen different ways to do a phonetic translation for a single name- I can't guarantee that the characters I'd use would be the same ones that the producers decided to use, or that they'd sound exactly alike. There is no inverse Chinese Romanization standard. Additionally, it's possible that the producers of the show might have even decided to try and translate the meanings of some of the names, which makes things even more complicated. In other words, there is no way for me to do a direct translation of the names and come up with anything uniquely meaningful in the sense that a Mandarin speaker could understand which planet was being referred to.

Well, screenshots are a problem as the few I've seen in the DVD are too small to make out. Zooming in they just get fuzzy, plus being unable to read Chinese I have no idea what planets are which anyway, unless someone in the show specifically points it out. The only planet's Chinese name I know for sure is the planet called Lilac (named so because the planet has a violet color) written on a sign that said "Welcome to Lilac" with it written below 丁香伐丙 in Chinese. I looked up Lilac here on Wikipedia, and 丁香 is how Lilac is spelled under the Chinese-language entry for the flower but I have no idea what 伐丙 means. Babblefish says 丁香伐丙 means "The clove cuts down third" - 丁香 means clove, 伐 cut down, and 丙 I guess means three. Is that the "welcome to" part? So you see my delemia. Another example is the planet Osiris, named after the Egyptian diety. Here on Wikipedia's Chinese-translated Osiris, his name is written 欧西里斯. I'm not certain if that would be the same way it is written for the planet. I heard Chinese name things differently depending on what the are, even if they have the same name in some other language. I thought it would be cool to have the planet names in Chinese. Fans of the show would get a kick out of it. Honestly there is no "offical map", the names are all from the show canon, but how their written and displayed varies. In fact many Firefly fans like me have made their own assumptions as to how the system is arranged and what the planets look like. So being "official" isn't necessary - the show never really explains anything technical and focuses more on the story of the characters.

This map here "Han's map" was made by someone else but he put the system on a computer screen from the show. The menu buttons displayed around the outside, appears in the show. As you can see it's written in Chinese. Likewise, info in the display would be in Chinese as well, but Hans listed the planets in English when he made his version of the system map.

Well anyway, if you want to give it a try that would be cool, if not, thats okay, I'll try elsewhere. Cyberia23 23:10, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Nationalist

Do you think it is necessary to bring the RfC case directly to RfARB now? I'm worrying that the ArbCom would rule it premature as the RfC is yet to be closed with any consensus. The problem, however, is that there will never be a consensus as long as Nationalist continue this kind of disruptive behavior, and the RfC case, if deemed premature, will never be mature as the ArbCom coins it. I believe that in order to make any progress through RfC we have to communicate with the opposition, who is barely willing to negotiate without disruptive editing and edit warring in Wikipedia disregarding the policies and guidelines. I have a partially legitimate reason to get suspicious of BlueRussian. I did not give much attention to BlueRussian, but after 24 hours I felt it went too disturbingly quiet in a sudden, as Nationalist would certainly not give up on that denied unblock request easily. When I checked his logs, I found that his account was created under six hours after the denial for unblock, and BlueRussian made his first edit right on Kuomintang within two minutes. The name itself, as User:BlueShirts also noticed here, may sound somewhat related to anti-communism motive (since both PRC and USSR are/were under communist rule, and USSR shouldn't be blue which is the color for Kuomintang/ROC). JMSDF ships

Hi. Back in August '05, you added "The ship prefix for JMSDF ships is JDS (JMSDF Defense Ship)." to the article on the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Do you have a source for this? I was under the impression that Japanese ships have no prefix, so we have to use long-winded article names like Japanese battleship Yamato. Perhaps JMSDF practice differs from the IJN, but a quick look around their website didn't turn up any examples. For instance, in their photo gallery, ship names are prefixed by their numbers.

You wrote "although it was a former KMT president", that is you added 'former'. Since LTH was the president at the time, should it be " a former KMT president" , or "was a KMT president".
