June 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Eugenics has been reverted. Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): rule: 'youtube\.com' (link(s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoqMlVqHa7g) . If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. an image or a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thorougly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creators copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks!   Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Eugenics. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Gwernol 22:51, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Eugenics‎ . It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Speedy deletion of Eugenics for a better world edit

A tag has been placed on Eugenics for a better world requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Ironholds 00:32, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits. The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to Eugenics for a better world, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well potentially being penalized by search engines. Eugenics for a better world edit

I deleted your page because its only purpose was to promote an external link to your own YouTube video. I've watched your video. Your article violated the following Wikipedia rules: WP:V, WP:NPOV, WP:SPAM, WP:COI and WP:EL. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it is not a place for you to promote your own work, it is not a place for you to push your point of view. Any further attempts to use Wikipedia to promote your pro-Eugenics agenda or your YouTube video will result in this account being blocked. Gwernol 00:49, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am not going to communicate with you via AIM. As an administrator here I use open communication methods so that any user may review my actions and communications. While I agree that it would be unfortunate if you were blocked, you have had multiple warnings on this page and have apparently chosen to ignore them. At some point after multiple warnings we choose to stop users who insist on ignoring our rules. I suggest you read the rules I linked to above to get a better understanding of what Wikipedia is and what is appropriate content here. Wikipedia articles should only contain information that has appeared in published, independent sources. YouTube is not such a source. Until your video has been discussed in multiple independent, published sources, it cannot be included here. Thanks for understanding, Gwernol 01:05, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the problem is that you are trying to use Wikipedia to promote your YouTube video. Please read our policies on verifiability and maintaining a neutral point of view. These basically say that all information must come from an independent, published source. A YouTube video that you uploaded is neither independent nor published. If there was an article in the New York Times (for example) about your video then you could write an article about it.

Please also read our guidelines on external links. Your attempt to link to your video from the Eugenics article clearly violates several of the criteria laid out in those guidelines.

Finally, if you wish to leave me a message, please edit my talk page and add your message to the bottom of the page, without removing any previous messages. Its really not that hard to do. Thanks, Gwernol 01:18, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

You are within your rights to remove warning messages from this talk page. However, all your earlier contributions are available for anyone to view as are all the edits to this page. Just so you know. Gwernol 01:24, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 01:28, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adoption edit

Hi there, I see that you would like to be adopted by an experienced user and would like to offer my services. What kinds of things do you want to do on Wikipedia? What do you hope to learn from an adoption arrangement?

Regarding your experience to this point, there are several things that you should know about Wikipedia. The first is that we are very cautious about copyright issues. Youtube videos often violate copyright, so linking to them is almost entirely forbidden; this is why XLinkbot removed your contributions. The second thing to know about external links is that we have to be very choosy about what we include. Links have to conform to our policies regarding copyright and biographies of living persons, be directly related to the article, be of general interest to readers and include information that cannot, for whatever reason, be incorporated into the article. I have not personally viewed your video, so I don't know whether it meets the criteria. To learn more about inclusion criteria, check out WP:EL.

Creation of articles is governed by one of Wikipedia's core principles, verifiability, which is intimately related to the concept of notability. In general, in order for a topic to be considered for an article, it should have several independent, reliable sources that provide more than superficial coverage of it. For example, it is not enough for a company to be listed in the yellow pages (that's superficial), but a profile in the Wall Street Journal proves that it's important and well known enough to write about. Some Youtube videos do have third-party coverage; Chris Crocker (internet celebrity) is an example. In addition, information in an article must be sourced to a published reference, so that, in theory, a reader could verify any information they come across. So if I personally know something, but it's never been published, that information doesn't belong on Wikipedia, even if it's true.

I hope that helps somewhat and I hope that I can be helpful to you in the future. Cheers, Gimme danger (talk) 02:26, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Category:YouTube videos edit

The articles in Category:YouTube videos are about YouTube videos that have been discussed in independent, published sources. For example, Hott4Hill has sources from Fox News and the National Ledger. Similarly lonelygirl15 has sources from the New York Times, CNN, the LA Times etc. When your video is the subject of multiple articles in the mainstream media, it can have a Wikipedia article, based on those sources. Until then it cannot. There are millions of videos on YouTube, we don't have an article about each one, we have an article about the ones that are notable. http://www.prometheism.net/ on Eugenics edit

As far as I can see, there's no link to http://www.prometheism.net/ in the Eugenics article. Gwernol 17:19, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
