I have uploaded a picture to Hebrew wiki according to one of the licenses listed there. As Heb wiki as well as other wikis take pictures from other projects they have a "box" which lists that the license is listed in another wiki and request users to go check there. As part of the rules- a cpic who is copyrighted or or about to be deleted or without license can not be uploaded to Heb wiki. The exect license in Heb does not exist in english (and I chose the closest thing) - but why not have the same here - see for example he:תמונה:BelvedereCastle2.jpg - the box points to the original license. Image Tagging Image:Scully pub.jpg

edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Scully pub.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -- Longhair 23:38, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Help with a page

edit

Hi, I really need help with editing a page. First the photo I had posted was deleted. And next the bio was taken down too? I wrote the bio for this actor and it's posted on his official website, as well as the IMDB. I also have his permission to post it to his page here. When I first started to post this actors information, I was told by someone on Wikipedia, that I should post to the front page that I had permission to post the photo as well as the bio. I did that. Also, this comment was left on the history page: 16:16, 7 February 2006 CLW (This isn't a CV/resume!) I'm not sure what this person means by this? I used Sir. Ian McKellen's page as a reference to the page I put up and he has more info on his page, than I posted. Please tell me what I have to do in order for the information that I post to a page stays up? It's a little disheartening to go to all the trouble to make a page look good, only to have part of the info taken down. If I've done something wrong, it was not intentional. I'm new to this kind of coding and I am not sure how to exactly post copyright info, or which one I'm supposed to use? I tried using the codes I thought were correct, but the photo was still deleted. I'm not even sure if this post to you is done correctly? Any help you can give me will be very much appreciated! I really like this site and would like to have the info I post here to say visible. Thanks so much! Abisel

AUES entry

edit

Hello, I was referred to you by Blnguyen with regards to the article I had written, for the Adelaide University Engineering Society. The page is an ongoing effort of mine to catalouge the history of the society for all to read, drawing most of my research from the societies yearbook, which dates back to 1950, and also from current and previous members, whom date back further than records kept in the year book :)

I am new to the wiki as far a contribution goes, however, I have made several minor edits over the past few years, and have used it for a long time.

The page was put up as Afd by Blnguyen, based on the criteria that it was non-notable, and several users agreed that it was WP:VSCA. Other users noted that the page seemed to be mostly about pubcrawls, and should be reduced to a note in the Adelaide University article. I believe this is false, and would go so far as to reccomend removal of references to the pubcrawls from the page if others feel that their inclusion is reason for deletion.

The society has had several notable members, such as Derek Abbott, who is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (along with his B.Sc (HONS), Ph.D, CEng, CPhys, FInstP), and also astronauts for NASA. These things are a big deal, especially for one who has spent any amount of time in academia.

While I did mention above that I would remove references to pubcrawls if it ment keeping the article, I believe that the pub crawls enhance the validity of the page. For one, the society claims to be the biggest in the southern hemisphere, coming in at over 800 offical participants, which cannot be disputed by any evidence found thru wikipedia, nor google for that matter. Secondly, and I only mention this because Blnguyen suggested that major hi jinx add to validity of a subject, students have removed objects such as entire hot water systems from pubs, during their crawl.

After doing extensive research throughout the wiki, I believe that the article is a valuable addition to the wiki due to all of the above, plus many gems yet to be discovered as I plough through the society's yearbook archive.

3ABN article and a larger issue

edit

Greetings. As I see that you're a Wikipedia administrator, I'd like to bring your attention to the 3ABN article you put a 'Wikify' notice on, on 12 February 2006. A user, User:Nel Christian R. Borines, originally put up material in pretty clear copyright violation (see the history of the page) - which was then flagged as such. He reverted it back to this violating material without discussion, which is when you then saw it and put the wikify tag on it.

Looking at this user's talk page, the user seems to have a history of applying material in violation of copyright, and doesn't seem to be catching on to the problem with doing so.

I have created an alternate 3ABN article in the temp area, and it may be usable. In the meantime, you or another administrator may wish to look into this user's contributions.

Thanks, Skybunny 20:26, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Theoddangryshot.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thirdly - just a suggestion - at the top of your user page where you have *To leave a message for me, click [{{SERVER}}{{localurl:{{NAMESPACE}}:{{PAGENAME}}|action=edit}} here]., you might like to amend to [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Longhair&action=edit&section=new Please click here to leave me a new message.]'''</div><br> or something similar, as this will generate a new section and mean someone is not editing the whole page. I see you had already added to the CfD debate - I missed it as I had to leave the computer for a phone call before completing my message to you...--A Y Arktos 23:00, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Vandal

edit

You blocked 199.98.24.179, and for good reason. He's blanked his own talk page, which in the block notice it says is also vandalism. Thought you'd like to know. Rlevse 22:57, 22 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

My FA, today's main page article on merit badges, has been vandalized AT LEAST 35 times today. It's ridiculous to have to put up with this crap. The main page article should be protected and everyone required to have an account with a verified email address, but wiki won't do that. I've heard all the arguments and don't buy it. Question: if he comes back with a different IP, how do we know it's the same guy (if everyone had an account tied to an email address, we would know the answer to that)? Thanks for the help. Rlevse 23:04, 22 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Scouting and Boy Scouts of America have been hit today too, but only a few times. Given that 199.98.24.179 said "Rlevse continues to suck balls", I wouldn't be surprised if attacks me personally again or even hits my user and/or talk page. Hopefully all this will die off in 38 minutes when some other FA gets on the main page and starts drawing bugs like a light. The daily FA is obviously a favorite target of these scum. Longhair you need to look into this

edit

You originally welcomed User:Tjp368 as shown just below here:

{{welcome}} -- Longhair | [[User talk:Longhair|Talk]] 23:30, 16 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

That user has now posted his User page as an article in two categories (Gases and Thermodynamics) entitled simply as User:Tjp368 ... is that allowed? Does it not need a proper title? - mbeychok 22:08, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have edited the article taking out the unsubstantiated material and adding material from verifiable sources. I would be grateful if you could take a look and see what you think. Capitalistroadster 09:41, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for your semi-protection of the article and your note on the page explaining that changes can be discussed there. While certainly some of the edits were toned down to what they had been, it was getting a bit wearing seeing the same stuff being put up.

Thnak you also for your comments in relation to adminship. I was asked a little while ago by Pfctdayelise, and didn't want to take it on at that time, particularly because of the hostility sometimes on the RfA debates - I have stayed well away in recent times but just having a look today when considering your comment it doesn't seem as bad as it was. So thinking about it again, ... I am about on the wikipedia quite a lot and there are some tasks I would like to be able to do and it seems there are plenty of backlogs in the admin area that I could help with; probably I would see myself helping with the backlogs at Wikipedia:Copyright problems more than some of the other admin tasks. I would hope that I have "a basic level of trust from other editors"; I have a fair level of interaction with other users both by welcoming people I see pop up on my watchlist and through the WP:AWNB; I have a fair few edits[2] - and while I find there is something always to learn in the wikipedia policy and guideline space, I feel more comfortable now about it and certainly try to use and comply with the policies and guidelines. In conclusion, I would like to take you up on your offer of nomination :-) Thanks--A Y Arktos 06:21, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome!

It's good to be seen. If I end up with any questions, I'll let you know... --Khazar 08:26, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Y'know, I just got a "new messages" msg for my talk, and didn't realize it was someone slightly editing your comment--forgot I already responded to this. =) Well, color me stupid for the day. Cheers,

Toowoomba Prison

edit

Toowoomba Prison ??? There's a prison in Toowoomba? There was one here about a century ago. There is a watchhouse associated with the Court and Police Station. Alex Law 10:56, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rove vandal

edit

Please don't block the tpg.com.au SEQ server block at 220.245.180.133 (indeed 130, 131, 132, 133, 134). I've jumped to a different proxy temporarily, but TPG will probably bitch about it. I know we have some idiot vandalising Rove, but 48 hour blocks are a bitch. Alex Law 15:24, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'll second that as I'm also affected by the block. Would you consider not blocking if I agreed to watch the page and revert the vandals edits ASAP? Ashmoo 07:05, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging

edit

Hi, the image as it stands was created by me in microsoft paint. I used the previous version of it as the source. I believe the previous version was created by User:CheeseDreams who has a public domain tag on their user page. So I guess that makes it public domain. Is that allowed, or does it have to be GDFL? --User talk:FDuffy 20:03, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Arktos user name

edit

Hi - I have never seen the television show :-) . My user name is indeed derived from the Greek is derived for Arctic, αρκτος, which in turn means 'bear', and in the context of the Arctic is a reference to the northern constellations of Ursa Major, Great Bear, and Ursa Minor, Little Bear. It isn't a great user name, probably hard to say if you don't realise I intended it to read the letter A followed by the letter Y followed by Arktos. I have tried to adjust my signature to make it more obvious, but ... There is also not a very good reason for my choice of the name, I didn't put a lot of thought into it when I first signed up just over a year ago.

The RfA seems to be going very well, I have been barely able to look. Many thanks for your kind words of nomination. Regards--A Y Arktos 22:09, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Meetup in March

edit

I see that you are listed as a participant in the WikiProject Melbourne. If you are a Melbourne resident I would appreciate your views on the suggested Meetup in March . Please give some indication of your interest, or otherwise, in the idea. Even a simple "No thanks" with your user name would be welcome and assist in assessing the level of support for a meetup. Thank you.. Cuddy Wifter 06:30, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
