Wine rating methodologies

edit

Hi, it's good to see the wine rating article appear. In my opinion that's a much-needed topic. Until you included that reference to Robert Parker's wine rating methodology, I had no idea how he rated wine.

If you can find sources for other methodologies, it would be good to describe each one briefly in the article. ~Amatulić (talk) 19:46, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad the article is useful, but I've actually only patrolled the article and moved it from the plural title to the singluar title; the actual author is DalekAGB (talk · contribs)- as he/she is a new user, I'm sure he'll be happy to receive constructive criticism. If there is an article in which I know information from personal experience, or by contact with individuals being represented by the article, how would I go by editing these topics without my information being quickly removed for lack of citation. The New York times article talks about what is "assumed" to have happened. Due to confidentiality and employee rights, the Lab refused to make any public statements confirming or denying the rumor. Leaves a whole lots of ambiguity for the person attacked, but that is what it is. I am not personally involved with NIF in any way! I just want to have this good person's name cleared up and reading it here in wikipedia seems unfair when there is no way to refute the claim. the references to the GAO report are not complete and Campbell's rebuttal to the claim is not stated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bsure (talkcontribs) 20:17, 25 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

When I Look at You

edit

Hey, whats your source for the "When I Look at You" single cover? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 21:40, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

How funny, I was just about to leave you a message about the TS album (I'm working on it right now). We discussed the cover a bit on Talk:When I Look at You. I found the flat image here on the website for the radio station KDND. I also figured out where the other cover came from- some jerk is calling himself "Miles Cyrus" and uploading fake instrumental versions of Miley Cyrus songs to iTunes to trick people into buying his songs. He created that cover for one of his instrumental versions.Liquidlucktalk 22:04, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
O.K. But there is one things that looks kind of weird and that is why does it say coming to theaters on April 2 when it comes out on March 31? But it's definitely reliable. Also, what about the Taylor Swift album? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 22:16, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Did that person hack into iTunes or something? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 22:17, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
It was probably printed before the date change. There's also a new poster I want to switch to (no real reason other than me liking it more), but I figured it was pointless until they print one with the right date.
I don't think he hacked, he just set up under "Miles Cyrus" and since that's only one letter off of Miley a lot of people bought his by accident. He uses the same song names, so it is hard to tell on iTunes. It must have been illegal though, since both Amazon and iTunes took all of his off (but you can still see the stuff on Amazon in the Google cache.) Liquidlucktalk 22:36, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Haha O.K. What were you going to tell me about the Taylor Swift album?? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 22:41, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Do you think we should remove the release history from album too? I was going to but WP:ALBUM still has it. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 22:45, 20 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't know about release history. I've never found it useful (who ever went, "I wonder what day this album was released in New Zealand?" ?!) but I guess if MOS has it, we should have it. About the album, I think we should restructure the article. Part of the reason I'm having trouble with the lyrics and music section is that the lyrics are all directly connected to the development, because the lyrics describe her own experience and the experience is what caused her to write the lyrics.
I think we should combine most of development with lyrics for an "Inspirations and writing" section (or "Writing" or "Songs" or some other name). "Music and lyrics" would be just "Music", would say why she wanted to do country, how many ballads there are, instrumentation, etc. If you're not on, I might just go ahead and do it before I go to sleep- it can be undone later if needed. Liquidlucktalk 06:37, 21 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't know about that. I think we should just discuss lyrics in the way they are are structured. Like how she says "Drew does this" and "Drew does that". Plus in the development, there's nothing on lyrics, except maybe a little on "Tim McGraw" and "Teardrops on My Guitar" but it doesn't live up to what could be discussed with the lyrics. In lyrics, we use critics and in development we basically write how and why they wrote a song. Does that seem O.K.? And for release history I've been looking and a lot of albums in FA and GA like Thriller (album), Tragic Kingdom, and Confessions on a Dance Floor don't have release histories. So I'm removing it from HMTM and this album. Also, we need the album to put the studios it was recorded in. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 17:26, 21 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Assuming that everyone before me turns in the CD on time, I should get it in three weeks. Three weeks is a long time and I doubt everyone'll be on time, so can you check if your library has it? Also, how should we incorporate the songs on the extended version?
The problem with using critics' interpretations in the music/lyrics section like we do in song composition sections is that since it's the debut of an underestimated teen country singer, there aren't a lot of in depth reviews that actually discuss lyrics. I'll keep working on it as it is, though, and if I still feel iffy about it later I'll make a mock-up what I'm thinking about and we can discuss it.
I've finished Back to Tennessee's review (the last one needed for the GT), so I think we should halt work on the other articles and get The Climb up to standard again (maybe McElderry's even finished and we can nom for FA!), since that'll probably be an issue at GT. Liquidlucktalk 23:10, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Alright. I think we can give it its own article since We Are the World 25 for Haiti has its own page. But let's bring it up again and see what happens. And sorry but my library doesn't have CDs. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 23:25, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
The songs on the deluxe, if anything is found. We can put it in a new section called "Deluxe edition". -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 23:27, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I've kind of become ambivalent on whether they should be separated or not, since I found out splitting depends on readable prose size, not regular KB, and the article is only 21 KB readable prose size. I think keeping McElderry is fine, although I agree it is notable enough for its own page. How about we develop the McElderry cover as it is on the page, and split if necessary afterward? Liquidlucktalk 00:00, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Alright, but I think we should have it before the charts and without an infobox. The infobox is one of the things that bothers me the most. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 00:25, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't care about the infobox, but I think we should keep all the covers after the charts since the charts aren't applicable to them, and McElderry has his own charts section so it could get confusing. Liquidlucktalk 00:29, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
But I think all the text should be towards the top. I think it should be as a subsection under Cover versions and then we could explain it mainly in text. That way the charts don't get confusing. Succession could be there. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 00:34, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't think I explained myself well. I never can. Here it is:

==Cover versions== <br> ===Joe McElderry version=== <br> ====Chart procession and succession====

Okay, I think that could work (though I'm sure someone'll begin a protest ;) ). Liquidlucktalk 00:48, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Haha, I know. People will revolt against even a minor change. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 00:52, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to bother. I see took out the underconstruction template out. Does that mean you are done? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 18:45, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh, no bother. Yes, I think I'm done; Since it was the debut of an underestimated country singer there isn't a lot of reviews discussing the songs/lyrics. According to a recent FAC, musicnotes can't be cited for instrumentation so I didn't use it but I think I've hit everything else. Do you think there's info missing? liquidlucktalk 18:51, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
O.K. The only that doesn't click to me is the development section now. Maybe we should should merge both sections into "Development and music". -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 18:55, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Also, on the link dump section you have a link and I'm not exactly sure what you want to do with it. And for "7 Things" and "The Climb" and "Party in the U.S.A.", we need to add Year-end charts. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 18:59, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've added Year-end charts for "7 Things" and "The Climb". We'll add for "See You Again" and "Party in the U.S.A." when we do the articles. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 20:33, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I divided the information into two sections: "Themes and inspiration" and "Development and music". Quite frankly, there is probably too much detail for some songs like "Tim McGraw", "Picture to Burn", and "Our Song". If you could lower the amount of detail to two or three sentences at most per song. Its a little too specific for an album article and if they are singles then we could add all of that to the actual song article. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 21:07, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Never mind that. If anyone in GA or FA says it's too long, we'll reduce it then. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 05:54, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Page Name Change - Maulana Karenga

edit

Thank you Liquidluck for your response. Maulana Karenga is not Dr. Karenga's birth name; it is his legal name and the name he has used exclusively for decades. As a matter of fact, all his literature, his many books and articles since 1979, have only used "Maulana Karenga" as his name. Also, in all his public and media appearances, he was and is always known and presented as "Maulana Karenga". You would have to go further back in history to find "Ron" used to identify Dr. Karenga, for again, for over three decades he has exclusively used "Maulana Karenga". In fact, it is the current page name that introduced his former name, "Ron", as the name that people should know him by rather than accepting his real, exclusive and most commonly used name "Maulana Karenga as the evidence indicates. And just as a note, even in the 60's, his full name was "Maulana Ron Karenga". So that "Maulana" has always been a part of his name and those who knew him, knew that, and it was also how he introduced himself and was advertised. Therefore, if we accept the standard of the most common name and base it on the evidence, then it's clear that "Maulana Karenga" should be the title of the page.

Just an fyi for you. During the discussion on filmography tables on WT:ACTOR, I copied your comments on the table heading from Talk:Miley Cyrus where you endorsed the color filmography table heading here. I thought it would helpful for you to know that Jack Merridew responded by saying that the IP I mentioned was blocked for personal attacks (which has since expired) and dismissed your valid comment as meatpuppetry, saying "The others you quote were set-up by the troll." If you care to respond, the comment is there. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 01:38, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I consider the above to be canvassing and a bad faith mischaracterization of what I said; I in no way implied that you were a meatpupet, only that the troll-IP misled you; i.e. that the troll was engaging in improper behavior. Cheers, Jack Merridew 01:55, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've replied on the talk page, but I'm referring to the biological purpose of humans and all animals- to pass on their genes in order to perpetuate the species. liquidlucktalk 03:26, 3 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Perpetuate which species and why? What's the point? 10% of your dry weight is composed of microbes, including 90 percent of your cells - 100 trillion microbes. They even carry more genes than you do. Have you considered that human beings are only a substrate for the survival of microbial life, which in planetary terms, equals the entire biomass of the animal kingdom? Are you an individual perpetuating a single human being or a bacterial colony that inhabits your body? Viriditas (talk) 10:12, 3 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, I confess I haven't thought of it that way. Interesting idea. liquidlucktalk 17:29, 4 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Loretta Jones GAN

edit

Hello. Thankyou for making the time to review the article. I've gone through all the points you made on improving the article. Most were easy to correct. One issue with the character not attending university I adressed over at Talk:Loretta Jones/GA1, but I thought I'd come straight to you to tell you to get explain a little more. Also the reception section, I've added it, it's actually quite limited to discussing the character's appearance and status as a blonde bombshell as the media have dubbed her, any serious deep analysis of the character is pretty much non-existant to be honest, as Hollyoaks is often considered the lesser of the five British Soap Operas.. so it rarely gets much in terms of big news outlets repeatdly talking about it, the characters being discussed is even more rare. So I did what I could for that point. I did however notice some new sources crop up on a google search, so I added some more characterisation points to a quote box, added a few more lines to the child murder section, updated the lead a little. The issue with you not understanding why Dom had the issue with Loretta being a dancer was my fault as I did not explain it enough, I've included now how she lied to him twice about quiiting the job. Look foward to hearing your views. Hopefully I've done enough. Then it's just the prose and grammar.RAIN the ONE (Talk) 04:04, 3 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can you upload an audio sample for Speed Demon (song)?

edit

Hey, don't mean to bother you or anything but, I was just wondering if you could upload an audio sample of the song "Speed Demon" for Speed Demon (song); the lack of a audio sample is the only thing holding the song back from passing it's GA review. Thanks, Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 23:52, 4 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, I don't own the song. User:TehRandomPerson used to add song samples for me and Ipodnano05, but he hasn't edited in 2 months. Try asking User:Pyrrhus16 (he/she often writes about Michael Jackson) or request a sample at Talk:Michael Jackson- someone there might own the song. Still, samples (like images) aren't required for GA, so don't worry about it if you can't find a sample. liquidlucktalk 00:16, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for responding to my message; I've prior to this asked Pyrrhus16 if they could upload an audio sample but they're computer speakers do not work and no one usually responds to messages at the MJ WikiProject talk page. Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 00:35, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

For right now, we will stick with Texas. Aceshowbiz.com says that she is born in Texas. People.com as well. Let's keep it at Texas for now, until we find further information.(Movieguruman (talk) 04:07, 11 April 2010 (UTC))Reply

I don't mean to be rude, but Aceshowbiz and IMDB are considered unreliable (Aceshowbiz has been off and on the WP:BLACKLIST and IMDB is very often wrong (facts from Wikipedia sometimes show up on it and WP:RSN generally rules against it, especially for BLPs and bios (some examples are here, here, and here. I tried for recent examples.). I'd say US Weekly has the same amount of credibility as People, and the MTV one was hosting the Allmusic bio- which I believe is more credible than any of the other sites. Since she moved to Texas soon after she was born, it would be very easy for People to be mistaken. I'm going to move the discussion to the talk page so that more people have access to it. liquidlucktalk 04:43, 11 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Victorious and Big Time Rush premieres

edit

I think the one reason why their is so much confusion concerning the premieres. Is because Nickelodeon does a horrible job with their promotion "titles". Big Time Rush premiered back in November as a "sneak preview" with 3.5 million viewers, following iCarly. Then the show returned in January with Nickelodeon promoting that as its "premiere" with 6.8 million viewers. But when Nickelodeon premiered Victorious as a "sneak preview" after this year's KCA's it earned 5.7 million viewers that's obviously more than BTR "sneak preview". And even though iCarly is the highest-rated show on the network, I don't believe their ratings are big enough to exceed the KCA's. In other words, The KCA's is a bigger lead-in which is why Victorious received the ratings it received more than BTR, regardless of the shows officially premiering as "sneak previews". Thanks for the explanation. I've altered the viewership section to add the info you told me; does it look alright (feel free to change it if it doesn't)? liquidlucktalk 02:10, 17 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think it looks great, you don't need a lot more. Still, here's a few links about writing/structure from Slant Magazine (1, 2). BBC doesn't have a review, which sucks since they usually have the most thorough ones. Also, here's another video review from Daily Telegraph. I haven't edited it, so tell me when you put it up for GAN and I'll review it. liquidlucktalk 22:49, 18 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

GAN backlog elimination drive - 1 week to go

edit
First off, on behalf of myself and my co-coordinator Wizardman, I would like to thank you for the efforts that you have made so far in this GAN backlog elimination drive. It has been nothing short of a success, and that is thanks to you. See this Signpost article about what this drive has achieved so far.

We're currently heading into the final week of the drive. At this time, if you have any GANs on review or on hold, you should be finishing off those reviews. Right now, we have more GANs on review or on hold than we do unreviewed. If you're going to start a GA review, please do so now so you can complete it by the end of the month and so that the nominator has a full 7-day window to address any concerns.

See you at the finish!

GA review of Valley Girls (Gossip Girl)

edit

Sorry this has taken so long; real life kept intruding. The last issues now are a few of the references. The ryanseacrest.com reference (#31) is a blog and so cannot be used in a Good Article without a special reason (fortunately it does not seem to be crucial to the article). The Star Magazine links (#11 and #22) do not work for me regardless of when or from where I try to access them. The entire website appears to be constantly down for some reason. I can see a version of the page cached at Google, however, and Star is a print magazine, so the references are fine but the links are dead. With these issues solved, the rest of the article looks fine. - AdamBMorgan (talk) 17:31, 26 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your participation in the April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive

edit
GAN backlog elimination drives chart up to 1 May

On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, I'd like to especially thank you for your efforts over this past month's GAN backlog elimination drive. It has been nothing short of a complete success, which hopefully results in more expedient good article reviews, increasing users' confidence in the good article nomination processes. Even if you made just a small contribution, it still helped contribute to the success of this drive. Here is what we have accomplished this last month in this drive.

  • 661 total nominations were reviewed. 541 of them passed (~81.8%), 97 (~14.7%) failed, and 23 (~3.5%) ended on hold.
  • The WP:GAN page started at 110,126 bytes length on 1 April and ended at 43,387 bytes length at the end of 30 April (a 66,739 byte reduction in the page, about 60.6% less).
  • Excluding extremes, the longest wait for someone's GAN to be review was about 11.5 weeks at the beginning. (I mistook the figure when I reported to the Signpost that it was 13.) At the end, with the exception of one that was relisted, the longest wait is now at 10 days.
  • 63 different users participated, each having completed at least one GAN, with others also having helped out behind-the-scenes in making the drive a success.
  • The drive started with 463 GA nominations remaining and 388 unreviewed. At the end of the month, we ended with 89 remaining (374 or about 80.8% less) and 47 unreviewed (341 or about 87.9% less).

For those who have accomplished certain objectives in the drive, awards will be coming shortly. Again, thank you for your help in the drive, and I hope you continue to help review GA nominations and overall improve the quality of articles here on Wikipedia.

AfD nomination of Victor Victori

edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Victor Victori. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Victor Victori. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Sources for video summary

edit

You added source to the video summary for "Can't Be Tamed". Is it really needed? Because our GAs have made its statuses without them and that means adding sources for "7 Things", "The Climb", "You Belong with Me", and any other song article we are planning to take to FA. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 19:45, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Ipod! In this case, I think references are preferred but not necessary unless there's a quote or something potentially controversial; they really are just plot summaries. "Can't Be Tamed" needs references to support the quote and "provocative dances", but other than that I think its basically preferred. liquidlucktalk 21:16, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hey!! We haven't spoken in the longest time. How are you? What have you been up to in Wikipedia? And I see your point, I was going to use the word grind to make it less controversial but did not know how to use it. It's fine the way it is now and thanks. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 21:26, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to bother, but can you the information from Cyrus' recent interview with MTV News. Particularly the info about the bird-inspired choreography, how the costume was pulled at the last minute, and the provocative dancing that she called free-styling. I'm asking you because I have no idea how to word it or where to place it. You don't have to format the citation or anything or any of them for that matter; that's the least I can do. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 02:37, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I haven't been doing much, just random edits without any goal. Nice work on You Belong With Me! I'll work on adding the MTV stuff, but it'll probably be later tonight or tomorrow before I get to it- I'm starving right now =]. liquidlucktalk 02:54, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
