Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for visiting my talk page. My name is Jim, and I edit here with the username of "Cullen328". I've been contributing to Wikipedia for 2-1/2 years now. I am an Online Ambassador, and I have offered to help students in your class. Please feel free to ask me any questions at all about editing Wikipedia.

There are many helpful resources available for new Wikipedia editors. One that I like is WP:PRIMER, which is a one-stop introduction intended to help newcomers to better understand the basics of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The best advice that I can give you to learn how to be a good Wikipedia editor is to actually edit articles, edit talk pages and edit your own user page. Add high quality references to articles, improve the accuracy and improve the prose, and everyone here will sing your praises. Feel free to visit my user page and my talk page, and feel free to ask any question at any time. Thank you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:18, 18 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Three topics edit

Hello,

Another student in your class, Croweml11, suggested the "Person-situation debate", and I think that's a good idea. We already have Behavioural genetics but it could be improved. I see no need for an article on "Self esteem and personality" as we already have Self esteem which is an aspect of personality. It could be improved, though. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:09, 24 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Linp11. It sounded in class like Croweml11 was going to change his topic, so it should be ok. However, he hasn't changed it yet, so we'll have to wait and see. William Fleeson (talk) 17:27, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Article edit

Hey Linp11, just read your article, it looks good! I like how it's structured with different headings and such. I was wondering though, how did you get Wiki to recite something? I wrote my rough draft and I cited the same article multiple times, but each time it adds the article again on my reference list (ie: reference 1 and 4 are identical). Moonpe11 (talk) 14:29, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Moonpe11! Thank you for checking it out! I found out how to make multiple references to the same footnote at Help:FOOT (Did I link that correctly? Not sure how to do it correctly yet...) Hope that helps! I look forward to reading your article!Linp11 (talk) 15:58, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Moonpe11, for multiple references to the same footnote, the first time you cite the reference, use
<ref name=CITATION NICKNAME>WHAT YOU WANT IN FOOTNOTE HERE APA STYLE</ref>

then each time you recite, you can just type

<ref name=CITATION NICKNAME />

Does that help? It made my page a lot cleaner :) Linp11 (talk) 16:47, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

That helped a ton. My article looks much cleaner now, I think. Thanks again! Moonpe11 (talk) 14:09, 5 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your sandbox draft edit

Hello Linp11,

You've made a very good start.

My first suggestion is to wikilink the leading persons in the field. For example, we already have articles about Gordon Allport, Henry Murray, Edward Thorndike and Walter Mischel. They should be linked, as should all relevant people and topics in your article.

Secondly, I think that you need to expand your explanations of the various points of view in the debate, which are a bit sparse at this point. Feel free to use one or two sentence quotes from the several of the advocates illuminating various of their points, as long as those quotes are properly referenced and credited. Try to put yourself into the shoes of a literate newcomer to the topic - your job as an encyclopedia writer is to give this type of reader the background to understand the debate and its significance. Wikilink to other articles that will provide background and context. Be sure to use a good array of references, especially those available online, so that someone interested can verify the points you make, and begin more in-depth study of the topic if they are interested. Your job here is to be more of teacher than a student, and I am confident that you will do very well at it. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:37, 4 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

DYK nomination of Person-Situation Debate edit

Hello! Your submission of Person-Situation Debate at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! LauraHale (talk) 04:57, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for reviewing my page, and for all of your helpful criticisms. I have made some changes, but I am still working on making my article sound less like an essay and creating a more comprehensive review of the topic in a NPOV. I will refer to the pages you suggested.Linp11 (talk) 02:49, 17 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
