Speedy deletion nomination of The Four Owls

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Four Owls requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Thanks for creating this, but if you want to create more articles, let me know and I can give you some tips. User:Smartse/syntax could really do with writing up. SmartSE (talk) 17:47, 12 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
@JamesBWatson and Ritchie333:. Isn't "regarded as a driving force of the United Kingdom's hip hop underground" a claim of importance, regardless of whether it's referenced? I've been bold and undeleted it and added references. SmartSE (talk) 17:47, 12 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Not really, because just about anybody could say that, regardless of authority. If they had won some sort of award, or being praised by particular radio stations or venues, that would be a claim of importance. I don't think the sources are particularly great either. @Smartse and Ritchie333: CSD A7 is in my opinion the least satisfactory of all the speedy deletion criteria. What constitutes a "claim of significance or importance" is completely undefined, and over the years I have seen enormous variation in views as to what counts as such a claim. However, if we take any such vague claim as "regarded as a driving force" without attribution as a meaningful claim of significance, then anyone can enable any article whatever to escape A7 by simply saying that its subject "is regarded" as significant. Is regarded by whom? By the author of the Wikipedia article? By the subject of the article? I do not regard such a vague and totally unattributed subjective value judgement as in any meaningful sense a claim of significance. Nevertheless, I am aware that some people do accept such airy fairy claims as claims of significance, and that was part of the reason that instead of speedily deleting the article I merely nominated it for deletion and tagged the claim for an attribution, to indicate to the author of the article (or anyone else) what was needed. I have found various sources (many of them in fairly obscure fan or niche publications) written by people who clearly personally think the "Four Owls" are great, but I have been unable to find any source which says anything that can reasonably be construed as indicating that thy are generally recognised as "a driving force of the United Kingdom's hip hop underground". Also, I find Smartse's comment "regardless of whether it's referenced" strange. Content which can't be verified by reference to a reliable source has no right to be included in a Wikipedia article, so how can it be taken into consideration? By that logic, any article whatever could be saved from A7 deletion by adding some totally fictitious claim of significance: the fact that it could not be referenced or verified would be irrelevant. Obviously a claim which cannot be sourced can legitimately be removed from the article (indeed, not only can be but should be) and obviously when that has been done it can't protect the article from deletion. Indeed, it would have been 100% within policy if I had done precisely that and then speedily deleted the article: I didn't, mainly because I actually don't know whether the subject satisfies Wikipedia's notability guidelines, so rather than delete it I gave an opportunity for anyone to show that it does, if it does. Proposed deletion of Night Lovell

edit

The article Night Lovell has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.
