Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. As you have noticed, the whole set of chemical-element articles has the same structure in the beginning. That structure is based on a discussion last year at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elements/Archive 62#"a" chemical element or "the" chemical element. Articles should be consistent, and WP:CONSENSUS is the standard way that editorial decisions are made here. Please don't make unilateral changes against consensus (but do feel free to start a new discussion if you have something new to add). DMacks (talk) 21:19, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

First sentence of chemical element article

edit

It has been agreed upon that the first sentence of articles for chemical elements be of the form "X is a chemical element; it has symbol Xy and atomic number Z." I saw that you made an edit to the page for scandium on 3 August, and just wanted to let you know not to change the structure of the first sentence (except perhaps to clarify the origin of an element's name/atomic symbol, such as silver having chemical symbol Ag from the Latin argentum).
