Jayson Blair

edit

Why did you add the category:Black Criminals to Jayson Blair? He was not convicted of any crime that I now of. -Will Beback 22:22, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please review our policy against racism too. If we don't have one, we should have one. BlueGoose 22:48, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Martin Luther

edit

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. CTSWyneken 23:16, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the explanation, but I still do not think it applies. It is dangerously close to offensive. From a neutral point of view, Luther, his prince, to whom alone he was loyal politically and the whole Protestant world does not see it that way. The implications of such are that Luther was evil. If you wish to take it up on the talk page, perhaps others will see it that way. I will not.

The other point is categorization can get out of control. We already have too many for Luther. All emphasis is no emphasis. --CTSWyneken 23:26, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think you will find it difficult, especially in an era where being of the wrong religion made you a saint in the eyes of some and evil in the sight of others. Pity poor Servitus, who was a unitarian in Calvin's Geneva. Burned at the stake, Catholic soldiers dug him up and burned him again during the occupation of Geneva. --CTSWyneken 23:37, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Steve

edit

I think that you're acting in good faith - I don't think that you're vandalising. Please understand that wikipedia is not concerned with you answering questions of race, but rather the way you go about it. For example, creating a category 'White Criminals' is wrong because by convention around here, the 'C' should be lowercase. Also, the last thing that wikipedia needs is more categories on such broad subjects. - Richardcavell 23:28, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Categories

edit

Yes, it's possible to have sub-sub-categories, because the categories are hierarchically arranged. Categories are a bit beyond the scope of my involvement with wikipedia. Anyway, the point is that by adding your categories you don't necessarily help anything. I edit Australian paedophile articles, and we have 'Rapist', 'Convicted child sex offender', 'Australian criminals', and so on. It's just redundant. - Richardcavell 23:35, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Paedophiles

edit

Hi,

You could visit Wikipedia:Categorization to learn more about categories - like I said, it's not my area of expertise. You can visit the talk pages there, and people will help you. I can't really answer your questions because I know enough to know when something's wrong, but I don't know enough to be able to teach it. The reason why I'm interested in paedophiles is because I'm a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. - Richardcavell 23:45, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

You haven't caused any offence. Not to me, anyway. I told CTSWyneken to lay off with the vandalism warnings. I think that you're acting in good faith, but I hope you can understand why adding 'Black Criminal' to the page 'Martin Luther King' might trigger him to assume bad faith. - Richardcavell 00:00, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Response

edit

Sorry, I believe the mere creation of a category called Black Criminals is racist. Maybe, I'm not assuming good faith, but at the face value this type of edit seems provocative merely for being provocative, especially if you tried to characterize Martin Luther King in this category. (I responded to the addition of Jayson Blair in this category). BlueGoose 00:07, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
