Youtube

edit

Moxy asked for some input on your use of the Youtube template on the admins noticeboard. As is being raised at the TFD there is obviously some dispute over use of these EL's in articles; I can understand & agree with the concern. The biographies do no necessarily add anything significant beyond the biography we have (or aim to have) and the videos on the page have a reasonably high probability of having copyright issues - even though the videos are not auto-play it seems to violate the spirite of the EL policy.

Anyway; all of that is up for discussion, and I personally would be willing ot be convinced otherwise. On the other hand continuing to add this template en-masse to articles while the deletion discussion progresses is probably not a good idea. As there are legit concerns about the templates use it might be that the most sensible action at this point is to treat it as a disputed edit and gain consensus through a successful "keep" at TFD. --Errant (chat!) 12:28, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

A small issue with some of your comments here

edit

A few of your comments at this TfD are fairly uncivil in nature (such as "Oh dear! Sooo much. Here, Let me rub some lotion on your hands as you toil away so that they stay supple and soft."). While we understand that sometimes tempers run hot here on Wikipedia, we try not to allow ourselves even veiled insults directed at those we disagree with. Uncivil comments produce a negative editing environment for everyone and tend to detract from your actual arguments (logically, an argument must be weak if its proponents have to stoop to personal attacks). Please avoid uncivil remarks and keep a cool head. You'll find Wikipedia much more enjoyable that way. Cheers. lifebaka++ 08:27, 9 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Here is this guy saying we need a mega-intervention robot to undo a few dozen edits. He is deliberately trying to whip up the Delete hysteria. You know, I do not complain about all the canvasing he might be doing. What did Nixon say about the young John Kerry? "Let's destroy this young demagogue before he becomes another Ralph Nader." Sigh. I will just muddle along. Honest: I do try to listen.--Lashuto (talk) 08:35, 9 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

On an unrelated note, looking over your contributions I see pretty much every edit marked as minor. This is generally considered a bad idea, as it makes it difficult to tell which of your edits actually is minor. I'm thinking you probably have the "mark all edits as minor" option on in your preferences; would you mind turning it off? Cheers. lifebaka++ 15:27, 10 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Folkinfo.org

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Folkinfo.org requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Cntras (talk) 09:42, 10 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Creation of templates

edit

You seem to be creating several new templates which, judging by discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion, do not seem to meet with approval of the Wikipedia community. Therefore I formally request that you cease creating any new templates for the time being, until the current discussions conclude and until you can form a consensus that these templates are appropriate.

I also strongly request that you watch the tone of your posts and make sure they are civil, respectful and collegial at all times. In particular your attitude towards User:Moxy is problematic and needs to improve.

Please will you acknowledge this message and indicate whether you intend to comply with these requests? Thank you — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:00, 10 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but learning the nitty gritty of templates has left me in a playful mode and, at times, teasing, tauting, thrilling and altogether ejaculatory mood. Yeah, you want a user with a slow hand and an easy touch. You want somebody who will spend some time and not come and go in a heated rush. You want somebody who will understand that when it comes to WP, you want a slow hand. Yeah. Been there. Done that. I already heard what you body's sayin' to mine honey bunny. I will try to contain myself or at least clean up after myself. I am currently luxuriating in a refractory phase and should be much more tolerable.--Lashuto (talk) 19:40, 10 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's good to be light-hearted around here, but you also need to show that you take other editors' concerns seriously. Your response above gives me some doubt that you have taken these concerns seriously. But I watch and wait, and hope to be proved wrong. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:35, 10 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Your choice of song quote indicates that you're pushing 40 at the minimum, as that song saturated the airwaves in the early eighties. So why not drop in and explain what's going on at AN/I, since you are under the microscope? You're a big boy: it's not a case of shyness, I'm sure. "Enquiring Minds Want To Know"! Multiple accounts?

edit
  • "You want somebody who will understand that when it comes to WP, you want a slow hand. Yeah. Been there. Done that."

Have you edited wikipedia before under a different user name? It is highly unusual for a new user's very first edits to be revising and creating templates. At about the same time User:Dresian started mass adding YouTube Artist links as well as creating Template:YouTube artist (and subsequently receiving these warnings on his talk page), you registered your account, as did User:Teecono, who also started mass-adding links to YouTube. Both Dressian and Teecono, like you, marked every edit as "minor" and all three of you have very similar edit summaries [1], [2], [3]. I strongly suggest you read WP:SOCK. And I note that even after Lifebaka asked you above to stop marking every edit as "minor", especially since the vast majority of them were not minor, you have continued to do this. [4]. Adding an external link or template to a page, particularly when these edits are under dispute, is not a minor edit. Editors who have large watchlists sometimes filter out minor edits. It is disruptive to misleadingly mark an edit as "minor" when it isn't. I'm going to ask you once again to please stop this. Voceditenore (talk) 09:33, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

You are right and about this I am wrong. I guess my Broca's area is not as well-developed as some and I am not sure I wanted it to have been anyway. I do skim over some stuff and I missed that one. Sorry, but some of these guys are like listening to "In questa reggia" by somebody who is not Sutherland (and she only did it once) a few dozen times in a row. I feel your pain like a pallid severed head slowly rising above the horizon of languid one, oh taciturn soul. And the darkness comes. But my secret is hidden within me and my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! It smells liek napalm in the morning. Victory!--Lashuto (talk) 22:46, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
As a real live professional linguist, I hope you find my explanation for why all this effort is worth it at the bottom of Template:Discogs artist. I also created this section in a internal guts of the MediaWiki documentation (yet to be accepted) as to the painful details of what it going on. I feel like I am still on some loggia and the blood-thirsty ragazzi is still crying out for f*cking Pu-Tin-Pao! You don't even give me enough time for all 39 lashes! A jaded, faded mandadrin is all I get to be these days.--Lashuto (talk) 07:06, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:53, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
