Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four halfwidth tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 22:39, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Lampard

edit

Hi again, I've fixed the Player of the Year info on Frank Lampard's page now. I understand it would be best to have a picture of him in the home strip as the top image, but I also think the current one is the clearest one we have at the moment. If you scroll down the page, his face is a little unclear (or obscured by the angle/lighting etc) on all the other images. If I find a decent one in the home strip, I'll add it at some point in the future. Thanks! SFB 11:47, 27 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Drogba

edit

I've added some info about his abilities to the lead paragraph. While I agree with most of what you said on my talk page, it can be difficult to add this kind of information without a source to back it up. Sometimes it can be matter of opinion, but I think I've added his most important and accepted talents. It is frustrating that it is so hard to find a report which actually backs up such simple facts like Drogba's strength and heading ability, but that is because so much of the football press is either low standard or focuses on the match as a whole, rather than picking out one player.

I don't really have the time to rework the table and add all his seasons' assists myself, but hopefully someone with a bit more free time will answer your request on the talk page. Thanks for dropping me a message. SFB 12:06, 27 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Editing

edit

You should be able to edit the page yourself now – users who have had accounts for over a week and have made ten or more edits are able to edit semi-protected (padlocked) articles, such as Didier Drogba. For help from other users, you can always leave a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football. Many people working on football articles keep an eye on that page for general questions and requests.

For general editing tips, you can refer to the Wikipedia:Cheatsheet – which explains the most basic and common forms of editing on Wikipedia. The raw text of a wikipedia page like Drogba's can be quite disorienting. This is because there are various bits and pieces to create the top player image and table, and references to back up information using the <ref>Reference link here</ref> style. To be honest it is a total pain at times. Some pages, like Sport for instance, don't have as much of this raw wiki data and are easier to read. A big problem with football articles is that many people want to edit them, but simple common things like tables and stats boxes are very complex to create and edit.

In terms of locking down articles: some articles are constant targets, but it is considered better to leave them open to editing to all. Any problems can be easily and quickly reversed, while good intentioned editors won't be excessively blocked from doing good work. I hope this explains a few things! SFB 13:49, 2 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
