DOYT articles

edit

Hi. When you accepted this edit by an anon, you were unintentionally allowing the addition of multiple unreferenced entries which I had removed earlier in the day when he added them using a different IP address. The guidelines on Days of the Year articles were tightened last summer so that all new entries have to have a reference (a specific reference to the date), and the purpose of the article protection is partly to stop this kind of thing (in the case of this guy, he was adding lots of minor Antipodean sports personalities). So it would be really helpful if in future you didn't accept any similar edits on DOYT pages. Thanking you in anticipation :-) Deb (talk) 09:14, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Deb, I did not know about that policy change so thanks for informing me. And as the great and powerful Oshwah says, “Happy Editing!” LakesideMinersMy Talk Page 15:42, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I meant DOTY rather than DOYT, which proves I am far from infallible! Deb (talk) 16:40, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Your reversal of my edit

edit

Why not demand proof from the individual who claims it's a "fad diet?" Afterall, that was the assertion that was made. You don't prove negatives. You prove the original claim. 75.166.14.18 (talk) 15:24, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Note that a particular user keeps reversing removals of this asinine claim. It is the claim that needs to be reversed. 75.166.14.18 (talk) 15:26, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) @75.166.14.18: Here on Wikipedia we require sources for changes like you have made. You removed previously added content and another editor saw an issue with that so he reverted it. You reverted his edit and he reverted yours. Here on Wikipedia we call that Edit Warring and it can result in a block. If you wish to establish consensus to make that change find a reliable source for it and start a discussion on the talk page located here. Good luck and happy editing! Kb03 (talk) 16:04, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, you're full of crap. The original claim requires the reference, not the removal of the bogus claim. Happy bullshitting! 75.166.14.18 (talk) 14:13, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Can you please help me get a page built for Music City Roots and not redirect to WMOT. Project Tagging - Your help is needed

Thanks to Earwig and his bot some articles had our project banner placed on their pages - this will let us monitor and support these articles better. However, the tagging received some complaints about too many incorrectly place tags (see here). Some help in going through the categories to be used by the bot would be appreciated. A great way to stay on top of articles which need particular attention is through the project's article alerts page. You can find out about new Good Article Nominees, Articles for Deletion, and more. If you watch the page you can even see the new additions each night right frmo your watchlist.

Image tagging for File:HuggleMisspelling.PNG

edit

Thanks for uploading File:HuggleMisspelling.PNG. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

File:HuggleMisspelling.PNG

edit

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Orphaned non-free image File:HuggleMisspelling.PNG

edit

Thanks for uploading File:HuggleMisspelling.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:28, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Editing Marine Aircraft Group 39 page

edit

Good Afternoon,

My name is Erica Fowler. I am a Captain in the Marine Corps and was tasked by my Commanding Officer to update our Wikipedia page. However, my edits keep getting deleted. I understand your site requires sources, which I have. I am just unfamiliar with documenting these sources. Please help me better understand so I can carry out my tasking. The boss is getting impatient.

Very Respectfully, Erica R. Fowler Capt USMC — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nobody32 (talkcontribs) 22:39, 20 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nobody32, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'll be more than happy to assist you and point you in the right direction. Obviously, since you work for the organization you're trying to update, this represents a conflict of interest and we highly discourage users from editing any articles where such conflicts exist. Instead of editing the article yourself, you should instead create edit requests so that other editors can review your proposed changes and (assuming no issues are found) make those changes for you. I would read WP:PSCOI as this can give you information on what a COI is and how you can make those requests Also, on a very important note: If you're being paid or compensated in any way for making the edits to update the article content, you must follow the instructions provided on this page in order to fully and properly disclose this information on your user page. If you have any questions about the two guide pages I linked you to, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia and hope you enjoy your stay, and I wish you happy editing :-) LakesideMinersMy Talk Page 22:54, 20 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

With the completion of our project banner project, we have a large backlog of unassessed articles. Doing article rating is a great way to find interesting articles with-in our project's scope and to also find articles that were incorrectly tagged. Hey! I'm not entirely sure how this works but it looks like you either created or added to/edited the STP wiki article. Are you able to update the language a bit or help me do so? Edit not Constructive?

edit

Hi, you messaged me indicating my edit to Marc Marut wasn't constructive... I expanded on his early life, updated his current pursuits, and filled in missing information regarding television roles he's played. I don't understand how this isn't constructive...

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmarut (talkcontribs) 17:53, 27 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Mmarut, The reason why I undid your edit was because it did not have a reliable source(sorry, should of used a different template on my part), coolass.tv is a primary source(see Wikipedia:Primary sources, published by Marc himself, therefor, not considered reliable in this case. Also, your username looks a lot like Marc Marut, so, I need you to answer this truthfully, are you Marc or do you have ANY close (professional or not) relationship to him? This includes working for him no matter if you are paid or not. No matter the answer, you are not in trouble as long as you tell the truth. I just need to know what path you would need to take from here. Thank you for helping to properly edit the Bonnie Cashin page without bias. I have lined to language published from outside editorial sources such as the New York Times and WWD. My own writing is also referenced numerous times by others editing the page. I am Cashin’s heir, biographer, and owner of her archive. There are many factual errors in the current entry, and can you please further clarify how best to update and correct the page?

Hello, Fashionhistory101, I assume you mean this edit(don't edit logged out by the way). There are a few things I need to say. 1) The reason why I removed your edits was because they were using language that was biased. e.g."She is widely considered the most influential designer of our time, whose aesthetic, concepts, and many fashion firsts form the foundation of modern design" even if that is what the page said, what's exactly is widely?" also if the link said never heard of? how is she the most influential one? 2) you need to read WP:COI. I have class now so I can't make a full reply, but this should get you started. LakesideMinersMy Talk Page 16:51, 9 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Edit to page "Muqatta'at"

edit

Hello, LakesideMiners

About the edit I made to the article—it is only referring to a certain aspect of the initial letters. That is that they have been counted in some surahs and it revealed that the number of times they were mentioned correlated to a meaningful number, such as 57+57, the number of chapters in the Quran, or the number of the chapter's verses and its order (chapter 27).

I know it may seem to be not true at a first glance, but I cannot stress enough that I have checked and verified this myself using the computer on the text of the surah; the text of various surahs can be found here: https://www.quranexplorer.com/quran/

It should be quite interesting and relevant to the reader that the number of times these initial letters was mentioned in certain chapters correlates to values like these; why not include this piece of information?

I have attempted to put this quite interesting piece of information into the article but it has been removed multiple times. See what you think—does it make more sense now that I explain it?

There are some other interesting things about the Qur'an numerically. For instance, consider the fact that if you count the word "moon" in the entire Quran it happens to be exactly 27 times‚— just the same as the number of days for the moon to orbit the earth (verification: http://corpus.quran.com/qurandictionary.jsp?q=qmr).

Also I like your condition "be nice" :) as Muslims we place compassion and good manners at a high value. The Prophet Muhammad PBUH said that the smile for others is a charity :)

please help me - urgent!

edit

Dear LakesideMiners:

It is so very important to me that I get my page presented acceptably for Wikipedia as soon as possible. I earn a small living from writing and need my Wikipedia page free of negative tags. I have read the material suggested to me and cannot get a sense of where the line between objective fact and subjective information is drawn.

My Wikipedia page was created by middle school teachers some years back. I had toured my home state of West Virginia, and many favored my debut novel. They were enthusiastic about the advent of Wikipedia and took it upon themselves to create my page.

Since then, I have added material, feathering it in to theirs and largely matching their tone. Apparently, I have now made mistakes.

I have poor ability using Wikipedia to communicate with you; I am old school when it comes to sending messages; email is the best I can do.

Will you please take understanding and compassion upon me and help me make my page acceptable. I have worked my heart to the bone as a writer, having no running start in life at writing or, as a result, happiness.

May I earnestly and respectfully ask that you please softly edit my page for me, as you obviously have the knowledge and ability.

I would be very thankful.

Thank you very much,

LankyKeller - I've been asked by LakesideMiners to step in and respond to you in order to help set some expectations and point you to the correct place. It sounds like the article that you're referring to is John Michael Cummings, where you've made significant contributions and changes. LakesideMiners has repeatedly responded to your messages above and told you to go here (your user talk page) to read his responses and what things you need to do in order to resolve your issues. Have you navigated to your user talk page and read his responses? Have you attempted to do the things that he's recommended? Looking at the signatures you've left in your messages, as well as your edits and edit summaries you've left along with your changes to John Michael Cummings, it's very clear that you're attempting to modify the article about yourself, where you are the subject. Per Wikipedia's conflict of interest behavioral guidelines, this is not appropriate to do. This is why your edits keep being undone and reverted by other editors. You need to follow the recommendations offered to you on your user talk page, declare your conflict of interest, and make edit requests for other users to review and approve instead of repeatedly editing the article yourself. If you don't do this, you'll only wind up wasting your time and you could end up being blocked if the disruption doesn't stop. You need to take a moment, slow down, and listen to what others have already told you; you're only causing hardship upon yourself by not following the instructions and recommendations that have been repeatedly given to you. Please follow my recommendations, review your messages, and follow their recommendations. By not doing so, you're causing the other users who are trying to help you to feel like you're wasting their time... you obviously don't want to do this to other editors. :-) Good luck, happy editing, and enjoy the rest of your day. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:18, 30 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey, You reverted one of my edits to Clue (1985) because it didn't seem "constructive" - so explaining he's accused of being gay, hence the sign off "I'm going to go home, and sleep with my wife" isn't constructive? Without that comment even having the final line in the synopsis makes no sense, so being constructive surely would be removing the entire final line? I added it for clarity?

Edits to Elliott S. Fisher -- advice / help requested

edit

Hi Lakesideminers:

Thanks for the earlier note explaining about editing and COI. I do have a COI -- I am the subject of this page. I am concerned that whoever has been making the edits to my page may themselves have a conflict and is intentionally trying to to harm my reputation. Here are some points I'd like you to consider.

First: there have been no published articles of which I am aware that confirm the fact that I was barred from the TDI research workspace for 2 years. This was privately shared with TDI faculty by the Dean. One of TDI's now ex-faculty members then sent two internal emails to some Dartmouth faculty (Chairs of departments; members of the faculty advisory committee) stating that this was because I was a threat to individuals. The Dean then refuted this claim in an email. The implication of the current Wiki entry is that I am some kind of threat. I do not believe that having this element (being physically barred) -- without an externally validated source who is not conflicted -- should be OK. In case helpful, I"ve pasted the Dean's email here (I"m sure the Dean will confirm its accuracy if you are concerned.

[REDACTED - Oshwah]

If you are to have being physically barred in the article, you should include the Dean's explanation of why and "not because of any physical threat to the community". Or perhaps best, just drop the piece about being barred.

Second, the faculty member who sent these emails (Samir Soneji) has a history of attacking me personally and questioning my integrity prior to my being placed on leave for the investigation. He clearly has a conflict of interest, and if he is the editor, should be precluded from doing so. There is a second party who may have made these edits who also has a conflict that I am not permitted to identify. They did work at Dartmouth, however, which might help identify them. If you want an objective editor or additional non-conflicted source, I suggest you contact the Dean's office. No other Dartmouth associated person has the information needed.

Third, I question whether having any of this information in my lede is appropriate. I know of many other individuals who have been dismissed from their jobs and yet do not have that fact appear in their lede. If you believe it appropriate to include this in my article, it would seem to fit better in my "career" section, and to return to my earlier overarching statement, which characterized me appropriately as a nationally recognized researcher and policy activist, best known for his contributions to the development of Accountable Care Organizations. My career should not (and is not) defined by the administrative misconduct accusation.

Wikipedia has incredible reach. The adverse impact of the current version on my teaching (it's the first thing my students look at) and my return to active public policy work (coming in the fall) is substantial. I do not want you to hide things or be inaccurate; I'm just hoping that you can put the administrative changes in the place they belong -- my career.

You have a tough job!! Thanks for your consideration.

Edits to Bridget Terry Long

edit

An anonymous user made substantial additions to Bridget Terry Long. These edits were clear and well sourced. As the original page author, I thought they were great. You rolled them all back. Why?EAWH (talk) 00:20, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Abusive language, harassment against other editors by User JezEuansson

I would like to report JezEuansson for harassing editors with vulgar, abusive language on Opinion polling for the next United Kingdom general election revision 916008625 see: "13:45, 16 September 2019‎ JezEuansson talk contribs‎ 180,388 bytes +330‎ Undid revision 916007097 by 78.13.229.18 (talk) Warning to anonymous trollls: F*CK OFF" (my censoring, original comment is explicit) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.13.227.47 (talk)

The Argus (Brighton) revert

edit

Hi. Just to let you know that the content you restored at The Argus (Brighton) was not supported by the source cited, and is potentially libellous, so I have removed it again. Cordless Larry (talk) 13:47, 27 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Cordless Larry, I could have sworn I removed that content, thanks for notifying of my mistake! LakesideMinersMy Talk Page 14:00, 27 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
No problem, LakesideMiners. There was a bit of an edit war between different IP editors, so it was a bit confusing who was adding and who was removing the material. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:20, 27 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Lakeside Miners.

I am not a seasoned Wikipedia user as you are so I am having hard times navigating in this system responding to you.

The article that you keep on publishing on Kiini page is full of lies and deceit. And it is not portraying the truth.

First of all KIINI is a brand name. It is created by Ipek Irgit. It is not a name of a bikini. Maria Solange Ferrarini does not make or sell Kiini bikinis. She calls her bikinis Ferrarini. She has no affiliation to KIINI.

Everything else on the version you defend is based on allegations published by NYTimes is based on information they gathered from the copiers of Kiini and people who had vendetta and jealousy against Ipek Irgit.. As the lawsuit is still pending these are only allegations and not proven in any way.

For you to publish these as if they are facts, not only is against everything Wikipedia stands for -which I believe is not allowing corrupt media to dictate the news- and also it is defamation to a brand and a person Arryslist (talk) 13:35, 2 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

The Help Desk

edit

We are asked to be polite and welcoming to new editors. But when the editor is clearly here to promote something rather than to improve the encyclopedia, I believe it is better to be blunt and honest. I know that some disagree. Maproom (talk) 16:40, 14 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Maproom, okay, thank you. I have wanted to expand what I do on the Wiki beyond just counter-vandalism. Your input is appreciated! LakesideMinersMy Talk Page 17:47, 14 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ibrahim Dogus page

edit

Hi, I am concerned about the Ibrahim Dogus page. The subject of the article is doing serious edits, and someone has said this is against Wikipedia policy, I checked and it and that seems that it isn't allowed. and he is also deleting content. How can this be resolved?

ClarityRandom (talk) 14:50, 24 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

ClarityRandom, I would recommend you talk it out on the talk page. Also, please don’t change others talk page comments, and add your repsonce AFTER the message from the person you are replying to. Do this by going down one line typing the colon symbol (:) then typing your repsonce. So the text that you type should look like this.
: blah blah blah blah ~~~~
I hope this assisted you and I wish you happy editing! LakesideMinersCome Talk To Me! 15:51, 24 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:21, 19 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
