Speedy deletion of Downtown languages edit

A tag has been placed on Downtown languages requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:34, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I too have a life outside of the Internet, as do most people on Wikipedia. But we cannot simply wait for everyone. First, how long? You gave several options, but which one is best? Second, so many people say, WAIT DON'T DELETE MY ARTICLE and promise to make improvements which never come. Look around Wikipedia and it shouldn't take long to find an entry that does not belong because it slipped through the cracks. This is best dealt with new articles which show up in various forums for experienced editors to take a look at. One reason we are aggressive is because of past issues such as the Henryk Batuta hoax as well as companies, people, and organizations attempting to use Wikipedia and not contribute to Wikipedia (see WP:NOT in general). That said, did you read the messages as your started the artilce? Such as Wikipedia:Your first article or the "As you create the article, provide references to reliable published sources. Without references, the article may be deleted." part? Take some time to read the first article part and Wikipedia:Why was my page deleted? Then you can always start the article again, but this time I would suggest writing it up in your user space first or on your word processor at home/work and then copy and paste the text.
Next, articles such as this are harmful. By leaving them in place other inexperienced editors and readers see articles such as yours and assume that type of article is OK, leading to more like this. This is why we have an essay about the other stuff exists argument which is often deployed to rationalize the inclusion of articles.
Lastly, I alone did not make the decision. First, I nominated the article as it failed WP:CORP, and an administrator agreed. However, the ultimate decision was really made a long time ago through community WP:CONSENSUS to allow this type of outcome.
I hope this experience does not drive you away from Wikipedia and you take some time to read the various items linked so you become more familiar with Wikipedia. Then write the article, and many more. If they pass the notability guidelines that include sourcing from independent reliable sources, then you will never have to worry about them being deleted again. Good luck.
