License tagging for File:Texas Gov Perry thinking about running.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Texas Gov Perry thinking about running.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. I, L.D.Allan, only make very occasional Wiki contributions. This is the first time I have dealt with Wiki photo permission issues. After reading Wiki guidelines, I realize the photo I uploaded may not conform. I can delete it, and/or find an appropriate replacement. Rick Perry and intelligent design edit

In this case the characterization is correct. --John (talk) 19:51, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I believe you are referring to "virtually all". Perhaps we can "agree to disagree" and use the actual quote from the Rick Casey artitle that was referenced? That article did not use the "virtually all" phrase. To me, misquoting a source is unacceptable and equivalent to "putting words in another person's mouth" --L d allan (talk) 30 May 2011

expertsexchange edit

I have something to tell you. The part where you posted about expertsexchange is entirely true. They used to have that domain in 1998-2001 (at least) and it was accessed primarily using it! I was an expert way back then! My school blocked access to the site because of the url and some people as well had issues accessing it because their filters thought it was a sex site, then EE added the hyphen to the URL so people wouldn't have trouble accessing the site. Then they wanted to drop that association when they learned about that. LOL.

so yes, please tell the others about this as well. it's true and I confirmed it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pussinboots2121 (talkcontribs) 05:19, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

The article Gilles Cachemaille has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Tony Wise edit

I noticed your addition to the American Birkebeiner article. I've reverted because that's not really the way to create a biography or to add material to Wikipedia. If you want to create a new article on Tony Wise, you might start learning about how to do that here and here. But I see from the above messages that you've already started a couple of articles... 32.218.152.233 (talk) 17:45, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Also, the page at Tony Wise currently redirects to American Birkebeiner, but the redirect can always be replaced with a suitable biography, provided it's well-sourced and shows notability. See also WP:42. clpo13(talk) 17:51, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

This inexperienced wiki editor gave it his best shot and would be thrilled to hand it over to an editor who knows much more wiki-markup than I do. Please. edit

L d Allan, here is the material that you attempted to add, earlier, in case you wish to use it to develop a biographical article. Happy editing! Cheers, User:HopsonRoad 19:59, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Tony Wise Biography edit

  • Information below from Tony Wise Museum of the American Birkebeiner[1]
    • This Wiki jr. editor lacks the experience to get an adequate entry for Tony Wise.
    • Currently, the wiki entry for Tony Wise somehow redirects to the American Birkebeiner which seems bizarre. The immediately previous embedded link for American Birkebeiner somehow comes out in bold. There seems to be some kind of redirected indirection going on, perhaps unintentional.
    • I am ignorant about how to break out a separate entry for Mr. Wise. Help appreciated from a wiki editor
    • I am stunned that there wasn't already a separate entry for Mr. Wise. He really was a legendary figure in northern Wisconsin.
    • help appreciated ... I really am clueless on how to rationalize the apparent incoherent tangle that may be happening.
  • Tony Wise was a visionary and tireless promoter of northern Wisconsin.
  • Upon returning from World War II, Wise started Telemark ski resort in 1947 and operated the Cable, WI area lodge through 1984
  • In 1973, Wise founded the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race from Hayward to Cable, WI
  • Wise founded the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward, WI
  • Wise founded Historyland and the local lumberjack shows in Hayward WI
  • In 1957, Wise formed the Sawyer County Historical Society located in Hayward, WI
  • Wise was an avid environmentalist and instrumental in the protection of the Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers and their respective designations as Wild and Scenic National Riverways in northern Wisconsin
  • Wise served in the Army National Guard as Company Commander and Lieutenant Colonel in Hayward, WI
  • In 1963, Wise received the Eisenhower Trophy for the most outstanding Army National Guard Unit in Wisconsin, the Red Arrow Division
  • Wise formed the Worldloppet, an international sports federation of cross-country skiing marathons. The federation was founded in 1978 in Uppsala, Sweden with a goal of promoting the sport of cross-country skiing through various ski races around the world. Only one and the best race from a country can be a member of Worldloppet. Today, the Worldloppet unites 20 races from Europe, America, Asia and Oceania.
  • Wise lost Telemark Ski Resort through bankruptcy in 1984. When Wise tried to retain his rights to the American Birkebeiner ski race, the court ruled against him. In 1984, members of the Cable and Hayward communities stepped forward to form the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (ABSF) to continue the popular ski race. The ABSF continues its strong governance of the race today.
  • Wise was instrumental in establishing the legendary Birkebeiner Trail system. Today, the Birkie Trail recreational system spans over 100 kilometers from Bayfield to Sawyer county in northern Wisconsin
  • In 1975, in recognition of founding the American Birkebeiner; spreading Norwegian culture and traditions; and strengthening ties between Norway and the United States; Wise was awarded the St. Olav Medal by King Olav V of Norway. He was honored with an audience with King Olav at the Royal Palace in Oslo in 1977.
  • In 1988, Wise was inducted into the United States Ski Hall of Fame
  • Tony Wise passed away on April 6, 1995 in Hayward, Wisconsin

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message edit

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:29, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
