Question

So, how do I use the xml source in AWB? I am not sure what to do.—Chris!c/t 01:36, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I need to import that to the AWB settings. I figured that out, I think. But then AWB says that there is an error. Am I doing this correctly?—Chris!c/t 01:50, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Ah sorry, I forgot that <pre> doesn't preserve HTML entities. It should be fixed here. If you copypasted the code into a text editor and saved it with the .xml extension, then you did it correctly. —LOL T/C 02:21, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
I updated the infobox on all the current Spurs players and I think the script works well. I will go ahead and continue on other players.—Chris!c/t 02:45, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
I will resume once you fix the multiplication sign.—Chris!c/t 02:56, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
There is an error on the multiplication sign still.—Chris!c/t 03:15, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
I find it on Kevin Garnett. I manually replaced the sign.—Chris!c/t 03:21, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I have some template questions for Template:NBA current roster. Can we talk on IRC?—Chris!c/t 01:22, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Now, "| draft =" change to "| draft_round = 1 | draft_pick = 1". So can you fix it?—Chris!c/t 05:06, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
I just fixed an error that occurred with 21st, 31st, etc. overall picks, but I haven't been able to reproduce it with the empty draft case. Do you have an example? —LOL T/C 05:26, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Odd. It is gone now. Maybe it is fixed when I update the xml code. Anyway, thanks.—Chris!c/t 05:37, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I updated infoboxes for all current players (by going thru the current roster templates). Are there any others for me to update? If not, I think it is time to implement it on retired players.—Chris!c/t 23:15, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

User:LOL

If you want to move this to User:LOL/User page, you can just use the "move" button do perform the move yourself... unless I'm missing something? –xenotalk 13:11, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

When I attempt the move, I'm told that the title is on the title blacklist. I considered mentioning that in the request because it's unusual to request an inter-userspace move, but I thought it was unnecessary because the top of the section says "If you cannot move the page yourself, then request it below" and I figured someone would help me move it even if it the title weren't blacklisted. —LOL T/C 13:39, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

UFC events

Can you please stop trying to change the UFC events, it is not needed with most of the changes i don't know what you changed. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by C.m1994 (talkcontribs) 20:10, 2 May 2010

I think conformity to the Manual of Style is needed, and somebody has to make the articles adhere to it eventually. How could you not know what I changed? Also, it is a bad idea to blindly revert edits that you simply don't understand, especially in this case because you're undoing work that is needed to bring articles in accordance with the Manual of Style. In the future, I advise that you ask the editor what they're doing instead of reverting everything while asking them to stop. —LOL T/C 20:23, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

A good reason for you to stop editing the events is shown on Vitor Belfot's page where you repeatedly vandalized the article. --Ganre (talk) 05:48, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Template:Infobox sports season

Hey. Is it possible to reduce the width of the left column on this infobox? For example, look at 2009–10 NBA season, everything on the right is bunched up.—Chris!c/t 22:33, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

The width attribute of two of the cells caused each column width to be fixed at 50%.[1] It should be fixed now. —LOL T/C 22:40, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks—Chris!c/t 22:58, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Hey. Is there a way that makes tagging articles with NBA project banner or assessing the importance easier? I wanted to use AWB but I don't know how to adjust the settings.—Chris!c/t 02:52, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

So you want to mark everything Low if the importance parameter isn't already filled in? —LOL T/C 06:01, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Actually, maybe you can use User:Kingbotk/Plugin. I haven't tried it myself, but it looks more useful than anything I can whip up. —LOL T/C 09:21, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I tested it out. It worked although I had to manually add in the class and importance. BTW, if I want to make a list of talk page to tag on notepad, I add # [[:xxx]], right?—Chris!c/t 18:03, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, like what I did here. —LOL T/C 09:45, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Hey, it is me again. Can you add a parameter to Template:NBA Year so that it shows the word season at the end (Maybe somethings like {{NBA Year|1998|season=y}} renders 1998–99 season).—Chris!c/t 02:06, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
For flexibility I've added an app parameter; anything passed into it will be appended to the original output, so use {{NBA Year|1998|app=season}}. Let me know if you like it and I'll add some documentation. —LOL T/C 06:43, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Looks good. Thanks—Chris!c/t 18:29, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
One problem. The template now adds a space in the end when nothing is pass into the app parameter. For example, see List of Chicago Bulls head coachesChris!c/t 18:42, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I find out that someone created this template, model after {{NBA Year}}. This led me thinking. Should this be combined with {{NBA Year}}? Or should they remain separate?—Chris!c/t 22:45, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

It doesn't seem like the template needs anything complex like dashes or ranges, so I think it's better to keep them separate. —LOL T/C 14:53, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

NFL Infobox

Consensus has been reached at the NFL project's talk page about the removal of the permenant As Player and As Coach features on the NFL's infobox. It is not needed as we can just add it manually as we do for the MLB and NBA infoboxes and being that over 95 percent of the player do not need As Player, it would be best to remove it. So can you remove it being you have the most experience with infoboxes? Beast from da East (talk) 23:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

{{Infobox NBA Player}}

Hi, can you help me fix this template? I want to make the draft_round parameter automatically says undrafted when nothing is pass on. For example, see Jeremy Lin. NBL (Australia) game logs

Hi i want to do game logs for Australian basketball. Your template for the NBA is very impressive. I can't use it however due to your autolinks specific for NBA clubs. I was wondering if you could help me make a template for NBL (Australia) season game logs. I have used your season game log in 2010-11 Wollongong Hawks season. I really liked your idea on using NBA color cell :) thanks Eccy89 (talk) 03:00, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Sure. It's been a while since I've worked with the templates, but as far as I can remember, you just need to make the NBL version of {{NBA color}}, and the rest is copypasting and replacing all the instances of "NBA". It's not good to copypaste code, so sometime in the future I may create a set of generic basketball game log templates, but for now we'll just stick with the quick solution. —LOL T/C 03:43, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
thanks for the advice. i have created Template:NBL colour and Template:NBL colour cell but when i replaced {{NBA color}} and {{NBA color cell}} with them into a "template:NBL game log start" (with the same code as template:NBA game log start an error came up... :( sooo close! what do you think the problem might be? Do you want me to save the new code so you can see it, or would you like to have a try for me? thanks again. Eccy89 (talk) 06:37, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Otherwise, we could change template:NBA game log start to include Australian teams and it should work fine? I guess a re-naming would have to be in order though...cheers. Eccy89 (talk) 06:42, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
hi. just wanted to let you know that i got it sorted for the NBL game log start. Don't know what that error was, but i tried again and saved it just for the fun of it, and it actually worked. Well thanks for letting me copy and paste your work :) Eccy89 (talk) 07:35, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Your problem was fixed here. Hooray for GFDL! :D —LOL T/C 07:39, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Coding expertise needed

Hi there, LOL. I was informed a while back that you are a coding expert of sorts when it comes to templates. I have a huge favor to ask of you in this regard, and if you don't want to do it and/or cannot get to it right away, no worries. There are several issues with {{Infobox NCAA Division I men's basketball season}} (it's a great template, but it lacks in a couple ways). I feel that it would be easiest to just create a numbered list, to keep it orderly.

1.) The "| tourney_start = " and "| nc_date = " parameters need to show that the first-ever NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship occurred during the 1938–39 season. Any season prior to that should not automatically show those params (see 1919–20 NCAA men's basketball season for example, which shouldn't have those options appear).

2.) The "| playeroftheyear = " parameter is for the contemporary two biggest POY awards – the John R. Wooden Award and Naismith College Player of the Year. I like that those are the two chosen for that parameter because they carry the most weight in National POY consideration. However, from the 1904–05 through 1978–1979 season, the Helms Foundation College Basketball Player of the Year award was the premier award. I am requesting that a "| helmspoy = " parameter be added (separate from the playeroftheyear) so that it can indicate the consensus national players of the year for the pre-Wooden and pre-Naismith awards.

3.) The "| champ = " parameter is automatically used for the NCAA Tournament champion. Once again, the need for a Helms National Champion parameter arises. I request that a "| helmschamp = " parameter be included for the years 1900–01 through 1981–82 (see Helms Athletic Foundation#Basketball national champions).

4.) The last request that I can think of, which is probably the trickiest, has to do with each season's naming conventions. Please take a look at the table in Category:College men's basketball seasons in the United States for a breakdown of how each season should be titled. The categories themselves have all been created, so those would be good for a reference. Note that I am requesting the name changes in accordance with the major divisions of college basketball (e.g. University Division, Division I) and not the lower-tier classifications.

Jeez, the first time I ever drop you a message and it's a laundry-list request of some major template tweaks! I apologize about that and hope this doesn't leave a bad impression of me to you :)...anyhow, keep up the good work. Cheers! Jrcla2 (talk) 21:38, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

No problem; I'm happy to help with this kind of stuff. :) I tried to fulfill each request. Let me know if there are any problems or additional changes that need to be made. —LOL T/C 23:11, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks again! I was just wondering if there's a way to make the space between "Helms" and "National" less elongated/awkward looking? Jrcla2 (talk) 23:49, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I substituted the regular spaces with thin spaces, but don't be surprised if they get removed in the future because they cause accessibility issues. —LOL T/C 23:56, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Well it works for now at least, gracias. Jrcla2 (talk) 00:43, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Template help needed

Hi, I want to make some changes to {{Infobox NBA Player}} but don't exactly know how. .I want to make the draft round and pick number into ordinal number and add "overall" to the pick number. This is needed to clarify that draft pick is the overall pick and not the pick of a particular draft round. That is what I am trying to do here. But then I run into many unintended problems after that change. For players drafted first overall, the List of first overall NBA draft picks link I originally added to the parameter no longer works. And then for the undrafted player, the "overall" appears after undrafted, which is not desirable. For players drafted territorially (e.g. Oscar Robertson), the undrafted appears along with the Territorial pick link, which is not desirable. Also with the above change, the Territorial pick link no longer works. (the problem between territorial pick and undrafted actually occurs the last time I ask you to fix the template, but I didn't notice it at that time) So, can you add the change I want to add without the unintended problem, while preserving both the Territorial pick link and the List of first overall NBA draft picks link? I try my best to describe the problem. But if you are not sure what I am talking about, ask me to explain. Thanks.—Chris!c/t 20:36, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey, is it possible to make the conference standing shows the division leaders automatically using a symbol? I don't know if adding a symbol manually would cause the symbol to show up in the divisional standing as well.—Chris!c/t 05:10, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it's possible. Are division leaders restricted to the top four seeds in a conference? —LOL T/C 05:13, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
