Recent edit to Jenkins House (Delanson, New York)

edit

Hello, and thank you for your recent contribution. I appreciate the effort you made for our project, but unfortunately I had to undo your edit because I believe the article was better before you made that change. Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. Thank you! Vieque (talkctb) 22:41, 26 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

OK, I am a newbie

It is very annoying to me to see my house on Wikipedia with old data, incorrect address and some incorrect information about the National Register status.

The references about the National Register process implies that Lucy Breyer did this all in 1984. I started the process in cooperation with the Schenectady County Planning Department and a CETA grant in 1979. We first got the properties on the NYS Register. This process was culminated with listing on the National Register in 1984 - a five year process! Not to minimize Ms. Breyer's contribution - just not the whole story. Also, there are some documents related to the Jenkin's house (with respect to the NR listing) that are more specific that are not included.

The 2009 photo has nothing to do with the Browns. The haven't owned that house for almost 30 years. My wife Donna came up with the color scheme and painted it the 7 colors you see in 2003-04. We are quite proud of the current restoration project and would like to show the work. Would like to provide a good photo when the work is complete and the porch is all painted according to the Donna O'Connor color scheme.

BTW, there is no going back to the "historically correct" color scheme. Donna scraped the entire house in 2003 and found the original colors. They were quite garish. Yellow, orange, brown and cream. People got quite tired of the 'interesting' color schemes quite early. This house was white with green shutters when we bought it. Our first painting continued with white with black shutters.

P.S.: I contribute to the Wikimedia Foundation and love the resource. Attempts to edit and upload a couple of my photos is getting very frustrating. Everything I added was recently deleted! Maybe I did this by mistake?

  • Thank you for your kind messages. I've essentially reverted the article back to the state that it was in when it was created, removing the rest of the unreferenced text in the process. Unfortunately, it seems that there are very few sources about the property that are both a) detailed and b) easily accessible online – Internet searches reveal little more than directory listings. You are certainly better-placed than I am to secure relevant off-line sources for the further development of the article. In your second post on my talk page, you mentioned documents such as deeds; I do not envisage any obvious problems with uploading them to Wikipedia and/or using them as sources.

By all means, draft the new material in your sandbox if you wish. If you need a second opinion on anything, the help page for new contributors or the Teahouse are good places to start. SuperMarioMan ( talk ) 21:22, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
