The article was deleted by WP:CSD#A7 for failing to assert why its subject is important. The full article contents were "Joel Simkhai is the owner of MagsForLess.com a website that sells discounted magazine subscriptions", and ownership of a website is by itself no indication of importance. There were also no references, which is nowadays required by our policy about living people. Anyway, if you want to write a new article about the person that satisfies our inclusion standards, just be bold and do it. A previous speedy deletion years ago is not by itself a reason to delete the article again. Hope that helps, —Kusma (t·c) 20:24, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

The discussion has now been going on long enough that we are beginning to go around in circles. Before talk escalates to shouting, I think it is important to attempt a policy wording that would have the broadest appeal among the 'neutrals' that will also hopefully swing some of the opposers. oddity

I just had a look through Portal:Germany/New article announcements and found a number of recent sadly shortlived editors who tend to create perfectly attributed articles (translations from dewiki) culminating in announcing that article on the board. Title of article "Crid" should be changed to "CRID"

MSU Interview

Dear Kusma,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.


Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Chinese townships

Hi. I actually agree that the sheer amount of work needed to get them all up to a decent level and fixing the existing errors is a mammoth task and one which is unlikely to be accomplished so it might be better starting from scratch one at a time. And I actually agree that sub stubbing is problematic because of the amount of work needed to expand them and its best creating meatier stubs. I don't view the project as I used to and you should have noticed that my editing in 2012 has been significantly different. But I continue to be treated with animosity and treated as if I am still an adherent of creating useless stubs which I cannot escape from. I am actually of the opinion now, given that so much information is becoming available that it is more constructive to add a sourced fact or two to new articles and detest sub stubs as much as anybody else does. I never "liked" creating short stubs but due to the sheer amount missing at times it seemed plausible to try to get people working on content towards them. Many of my stubs have been expanded but many haven't, but that's wikipedia. If we could have an article on every Chinese townships like Anxiang Township this would go a massive way towards addressing systematic bias. But placeholder stubs in a way still reveal the systematic bias as few are expanding them. Above all I want to see information dramatically expand and wikipedia flourish and do a great deal towards trying to achieve it which I rarely get credit for. i think it was completely unnecessary what happened at ANI and we could have at least talked about the articles in a more constructive, more amicable manner elsewhere. Just show me some respect and I'll reciprocate it. I should be able to add sourced population to Jaguar's Spanish municipality stubs anyway..♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:07, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

I don't think I have shown you disrespect (I certainly didn't mean to). I certainly know that you are one of the few people we have that are willing to write articles about almost any topic, and it is plain to see that you write lots and lots of good articles. I just believe that placeholder stubs hide some of our problems of systemic bias, and that they actually slow down content creation. I love red links and do not like stubs. Of course, I have also created stubs, but nowadays I prefer to write proper articles right away. (When I do actually write, which is too rare these days). —Kusma (t·c) 07:56, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Me too, I much prefer writing articles for DYK/GA or at least meatier stubs. Since I got my widescreen monitor in December I saw how the short stubs look even worse and how much better wikipedia is when the articles contain content and references!! But I was trying to cover too much and jeopardized the quality of content. Also it comes down to how you view the project. If you think of wikipedia as a long term project which will be around for tens even hundreds of years you see it from the perspective of trying to identify as many notable topics as possible which wikipedia should be working towards but if you view it as a solid encyclopedia then temporarily it is far below expected standard, after all an encyclopedia is here to provide information! If I had the time I would of course created all those thousands of articles with full content.. A lot of them though were stubs to be transwikied where the information is already in another language and simply needs copying over and sourcing. At times it seemed productive to route out notable articles and encourage people to expand and help given limited time and the sheer number of missing articles but the reality is that most people ignore them and I agreed with Aymatth2 and DGG a while ago that all new articles should really contain one sourced fact bare minimum and that unsourced sub stubs create a bigger problem than them missing. The German wikipedia deficit is the worst I think we have tens of thousands of missing articles which have full content on German wiki and few translating on here, Internet trouble again. may be slow progressing with sourcing Jaguar's Spanish stubs today..
