So you're saying I should just warn an account that made an obvious vandalism post even though it's obvious that he'll do it again. I can see warning an IP, but an account is one person and one person only. His post was blatant vandalism and it's just a matter of time until he vandalizes again. F-402 15:14, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

It is not obvious that he'll do it again. in my experience, many editors stop after a warning and just want to test whether they can really write any nonsense they think. Stopping a user by a warning instead of a block has the desired effect (the user has stopped vandalizing) without any negative side effects (like collateral damage to others who use the same IP address). New Page Patrol

Thanks for your note. I'm fairly new to NPP and still finding my way a little; it's a good job I'm a fast learner, but comments like yours do help. As to top/bottom, I select "10" items in the dropdown, simply for ease of management, and I assumed that these would be the bottom ten. As for the kibbutz, I note that there are about 250 in Israel so I suppose on reflection this makes them notable per se. Sometimes I have seen references to settlements with 100 residents and speedied them as WP:NN, and unless they hold some sort of record for "smallest settlement somewhere" or have Brigadoon-like qualities, and assert this, I'll tag them. But I see a tag as a suggestion, albeit a strong one. And, unlike some other NP watchers, I do take the time to check Google for CopyVio and WP:Notability. If I'm getting it wrong, please let me know. --Rodhullandemu (talk - contribs) 15:58, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Sōsuke Aizen

It really seems to me that it's time for the spoiler tag on Sōsuke Aizen to go. The tag is right at the top of the page, which means that it doesn't discriminate between the "spoiled" content and any other kind of content.

A tag saying that the whole page is a spoiler isn't much help. Someone who wanted to read about Sōsuke Aizen without having their experience spoiled—I'm not sure who that would be, but let's assume they exist—wouldn't find any joy in a tag that covers the whole page.

What do you think??? Marc Shepherd 18:23, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Personally I don't think any spoiler tags are needed anywhere, but I proposed to use {{current fiction}} instead of {{spoiler}} in the case of Sōsuke Aizen and similar whole-article tags. My view on this is here and on Talk:Sōsuke Aizen. Kusma (talk) 11:27, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

I'd just noticed the edits that User:CharlesIsEmo had been making to Chav in an attempt to, I suppose, get back at me for reverting his earlier vandalism, and I saw that you'd blocked him for his repeated vandalism and, ostensibly, for targeting me with his edits. I just wanted to express my appreciation for your actions. Many thanks!  :) Ashdog137 18:18, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of valid redirects?

Hi there. I see you deleted Herman Francis Mark and Herman F. Mark under g5. I can't see the deleted revisions to be sure, but were these valid redirects at the time you deleted them? I've recreated them to point at Herman Mark, but I'd be interested to know what they were before deletion. Can you tell me what they were before deletion? Carcharoth 15:08, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

They were valid redirects to your target, but I didn't check that at the time of deletion. They were created by banned user Sheynhertz-Unbayg under his account Kussma (impersonating me...), and in my experience trying to sort which of his contributions are good, which are in need of cleanup (most, a whole project, Wikipedia:SU was started to fix his contributions) and which are in need of deletion is only encouraging him to continue to violate his ban so I usually just revert and delete as fast as I can. Kusma (talk) 16:54, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
OK, sure. If it was only one or two out of a lot of bad edits, then sure. I personally would never do that, but I can understand your concern and the WP:DENY problems. I will say though that if trolls think that their edits will be blindly reverted, it will encourage them to mix good and bad edits. It's a tricky problem. Carcharoth 04:06, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Yep

Hey Kusma, how are you? Just randomly found two more socks just now while checking the history of Morawa (1, 2). So he's still not gone for good, apparently. Nothing serious, just the usual stuff, most of which was already fixed by others. The only thing left is that Category:Morava-related articles needs to be deleted. Thanks, shoeofdeath 06:22, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

I deleted the category; most of the rest seems to be not a problem. He seems to use throwaway usernames these days, so probably there's not even much point in blocking the socks. Kusma (talk) 15:02, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Bromberg

I noticed your involvement in the edit history of "Bromberg". Krochman (talk · contribs) had turned it into a disambiguation page ala Sheynhertz-Unbayg (talk · contribs), which you reverted. The redirect to Bydgoszcz, the primary meaning of the term IMO, has since been turned into a stub article for de:Bromberg (Niederösterreich). Any objection to moving the stub to Bromberg, Lower Austria, or should the modern location take precedence? Olessi 22:48, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

I think the Austrian Bromberg is so small that the only choices are a real disambiguation page (of course Krochman is Sheynhertz-Unbayg) like de:Bromberg or letting Bromberg redirect to Bydgoszcz (I would prefer that, but my opinion isn't very strong). Most incoming links for Bromberg that mean the modern location seem to be from Template:Wiener Neustadt-Land, so if you do anything, don't forget to fix that template. Happy editing, Kusma (talk) 07:13, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
I redirected Bromberg to Bydgoszcz and edited the template. Olessi 16:52, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Can't we free up the database by deleting articles that have been merged? There isn't much in the edit history of Romanian mythology besides a list. The real text is in the edit history of Folklore of Romania. Lisa the Sociopath 07:26, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Merging without attribution and without keeping the page history violates the copyright of the original authors and the GFDL. Kusma (talk) 08:02, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Dear lord. OK, if the rights of the authors are so observed in such cases I find it curious that I can't get a single admin to delete certain old edits I made in some article talk pages. They have the capability but they always have an excuse in my experience. As time goes on and it becomes simpler to delete such edits I expect that the wishes of editors in these cases may also be observed. Lisa the Sociopath 08:08, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
This is not about "author's rights" but about complying with our license. In any case, deleting articles does not "free up the database", as deleted revisions are not removed from the database, only hidden from public view. Keeping the redirect also prevents creation of a duplicate article. Redirects are cheap. Kusma (talk) 10:37, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes I realize these things. Admins can see deleted articles and pages. I wanted to have that page deleted. Rules are only rules if they are enforced and I probably could've had it deleted. Thanks. Lisa the Sociopath 21:49, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Newsletter

do you think it is going to be time for another newsletter? Agathoclea 16:08, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Not a bad idea. Everybody should hear the good news about the Cities project. We probably should try to get an improvement drive or collaboration started at some point (given that my supply of FAs for the portal is running dry) but I can't organize it right now (you know, real life...) Perhaps there should be something in the newsletter that attracts some more people to post at the project talk page (would be nice to find out what people want the Germany project to do, and whether anybody out there wants to organize anything). My attempt last time didn't work very well, though. Are there any recent Peer reviews or FACs that we could point some interested people to? Once the newsletter is finished, there are a couple of bots that can probably do the delivery work so it doesn't have to be done by hand. (SlaveToTheWage had a bot, but seems to be on wikibreak). Happy newsletter-writing, Kusma (talk) 09:03, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Kalaripatt pic

I have tagged several images for the same reason in the past and all of them have been speedy deleted by other admins(as recently as a few hours ago) without harping on me wasting their time or asking me to go through a pointless IFD etc.,.. If you dont want to speedy it, dont. Another admin will come along and do the honours. Non-admin editors' time isnt free either and we are all volunteering our valuable time. So stop acting like its a waste of your time to examine a simple thing like this. If it really is, you should consider giving up your tools.

And whats more, this is an image which I have tagged in the past for precisely the same reason(watermark) and it has been deleted more than once too. It keeps coming back and you tell me it is a waste of your time that I tag it? Sarvagnya 20:33, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

How to do job of patrolling if such things happen?

I tagged Andreas Spanias. Other editor removed it claming that Javd-DSP is enough for notability. Lateron on my talk page he said he know nothing about Java-DSP.

Other editor also removed tags on article I deleted. Some bio are nonsense because those people are from my country and especially they clain notability of subject I know very well. Same user said that Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts meet WP:CORP. I replied to him following way.

(quote begins) According WP:CORP, Even though the parent organization may be notable, individual chapters of national and international organizations may not be notable enough to warrant a separate article.

Please explain why separate articles are necessary to describe all hotels owned by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

According WP:CORP, Notable means "worthy of being noted" or "attracting notice." It is not synonymous with "fame" or "importance." Please consider notable and demonstrable effects on culture, society, entertainment, athletics, economies, history, literature, science, or education.

Please explain how Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has demonstrable effects on culture, society, entertainment, athletics, economies, history, literature, science, or education.

(quote ends).

Please note that I am tagging articles from conflict of interest category. If those are valid articles why not remove COI tag? And if they are deletable, why not delete them? What time is appropriate to take decision?

I have already complained that companies like MyWikiBiz.com are hiring professional wikipedians to advertise in such claver way that it looks beautiful, perfect encyclopedia articles. But leave that alone, I am not allowed to place tag on article like Andreas Spanias.

Will you please tell me what is going on?

Thanks. abhih 17:10, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

The thing is, we want to have articles on important scholars and large corporations. There should be a neutral article on a chain as large and important as Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. Whether their individual hotels should have articles is something that should be decided on an article by article basis. You tagged these articles for speedy deletion, which is designed to leave very little time for review (basically, an admin or other respected Wikipedian comes along and decides to delete or to remove the tag within a minute or so). For topics where many people think we should have an article (as with the hotel chain), the best thing to do when you encounter a problem ("this reads like advertising") is to fix the article by editing it so it no longer reads like an advertisement. If an article is a beautiful and perfect neutral encyclopedia article, then deleting it just because one of the authors might have had a conflict of interest is bad for Wikipedia. In cases of doubt, you can always start a deletion discussion at WP:AFD, which might have the perfect result that somebody comes along and cleans up the article (so there is no longer an advertisement / neutrality problem plus Wikipedia has an article on a reasonably important business). Imagine we find out that our article on Microsoft reads like an advertisement or was written by Microsoft employees. Do you seriously believe it is better to have no article on Microsoft than to try and fix the problems?
About that scholar: The article is quite short, but contains a clear claim of notability. Whether that is sufficient is something that is difficult for an admin (i.e. a non-expert on the article topic) to decide. It is much more productive to submit such questions to the wider audience of WP:AFD than to the small audience of admins who watch the speedy deletion category. Always remember that we are trying to write an encyclopedia, not weed out all problematic articles immediately. There is no deadline, and if you slow down on your nominations, you will become more efficient. Kusma (talk) 18:31, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Two and a half men season 5 reviews

Look, now I have no idea why you ppl are deleting the review that I am putting up!

'CorenBot' says that it violates the copyrights of http://cronies.wordpress.com , when, in fact, the blog itself is violating copyright by posting copyrighted material from the CBS site (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/two_and_a_half_men).

Now, I posted the very same thing, but I had put as reference links the link to CBS.

So could you please clear this all up and put back the articles!

Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thirucumaran (talkcontribs) 11:19, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

(This is about Dum Diddy Dum Diddy Doo (Two and a half men)). A direct cut and paste from the CBS website is still a violation of their copyright, even with a link that provides attribution. (It says "©MMVII, CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved." at the bottom of the summary page). You may use your own words to describe the episode and cite the CBS site as a source, though. Speedy deletion of Моисеич. Please let me copy my text from the article to create a website or something

Hello, Kusma. I have one request. Is there any way for me to get my text emailed back to me, so I can start my cult some place else. My email address is mnogochlen@gmail.com. Thank you very much. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mishka94 (talkcontribs) 21:03, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Claudio Giráldez González

Why did you delete the Claudio Giráldez article? The original text was written in English since my Spanish is very poor. Raul17 19:59, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

It had been replaced by some text in Spanish, and after it was nominated for deletion, I forgot to check the page history, so I deleted it. I have now restored the article. Kusma (talk) 21:47, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Atmaram

I noted that the article on Jain Acharya Atmaram was deleted.

08:00, 28 September 2006 Kusma (Talk | contribs) deleted "Atmaram" ‎ (content was: '{{db-bio}}Atmaram - A person staying at Hyderabad')

It appears that the original article was vandalized when you saw it.

I would like to help with recreation of this article. Acharya Atmaram was a prominent and influential scholar. Acharya Atmaram (also known as Shri Vijayanandsuri) (1841-1900) was the first person to be raised to the rank of a Jain Acharya in the past 400 years in 1890. He was invited to visit the Congress of World Religions held in Chicago in 1893 A.D. Will you mind if I will assist in this effort?

--Vikramsingh (talk) 00:09, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

The article had been created with only the information you see in my deletion summary. If you want to start a new article with this name, just go ahead. The information you give above probably means that the person meets our inclusion guideline. Happy editing, Kusma (talk) 07:33, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Could you please undelete Wargus? In searching sources for real-time strategy, I have found at least two academic studies that describe that particular game in detail, and use it as an object for studying Action selection. For example:

RE: Elbtunnel

I wanted to move the page due to a HUGE discrepancy between what the Germans call it and the article, and that it was bugging the crap out of me (As I have driven in the Tunnel NUMEROUS times). So I felt in order to "Cut the Red Tape" I would do it myself. I feel that it is IMPERATIVE that in order to save our credibility on the matter, and that my type of action was justified. So please move the What is "New Elbe Tunnel" to the place of "Elbe Tunnel". Sorry for the confusion and lack of proper move procedures. Vielen Dank, -MKLPTR MKLPTR (talk) 10:04, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

P.S. RE: ELBE TUNNEL

I also think it does not EVER matter what the English word is. If the Germans call something a certain way. Thank it it a REQUIREMENT to mirror the wording of a given item. That said the "Elbe Tunnel" page MUST be looking like the way I made it look. Otherwise I might have to Revert it again and we will need to get another senor editor involved to see who is right. As you can tell I take my German stuff SERIOUSLY, For I know that when my freind does the radio traffic report for delta radio from Kiel Germany she says "Elbe Tunnel" not "NEU/NEW Elbe Tunnel"

TRY MOVE PROTECTIONG THIS:

Article on PlayStation Portable Slim and Lite. Some dope just moved it to GayStation Portable Slim and Lite. Please move protect that article. Vandals have become sooooo sneakier these days. From vandalizing the articles to moving the article's title to something inappropriate. iaNLOPEZ1115 (talk) 09:57, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

I have blocked the vandal instead (he should have been blocked long ago). Kusma (talk) 15:27, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Good point, especially when it was me who deleted that page. Don't really think a 24 hour block will accomplish much, though (probably the autoblock of the other idiots writing nonsense at User:Jeuan will affect this IP). Happy editing, Kusma (talk) 13:41, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because it's the holiday season and there are plenty of off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a good New Year, --Elonka 22:08, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
