Talkback

Hello, KumiokoCleanStart. You have new messages at Headbomb's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Sorry if this isn't appropriate. Not sure what all the rules are here, there seems to be thousands of them and I haven't decided if I want to create a username so forgive the IP. I was going to thank Headbomb for some help today and just read some of your discussion comments with Headbomb on their talk page. He seems like an ok sort so maybe you do need to go on a vacation for a while. It seems like he doesn't have a problem with you just a specific disagreement. I glanced at your User contribs and it seems to go on forever (just for the last month) so you must have been ok and busy too. Disagreements happen. Take a break and then come back. Maybe you could help with WikiProject Biophysics (thats were I talked to Headbomb). It looks like you know a lot about WikiProject stuff. I don't know anything about you or the situation, just thought I might be able to calm things down as a completely unbiased voice that doesn't know anything about the situation. 138.162.8.57 (talk) 21:47, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

A structural solution to good-faith deletion battles

Thanks for your comments at VPP-- that made me feel a lot better. I was wondering, if you have the time-- would you look over Wikipedia:Deletions and Openness and see what you think? Your input would be greatly valued. --HectorMoffet (talk) 08:09, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Kumioko, was this you posting the "retired" message on your user & user-talk pages?

If not, let us know, or please change it back.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 12:23, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, it's his IP. If you check the edit history it's easy to tell. His last edit was here. (I'm posting this because I assume he meant what he said, and I've been somewhat involved with the whole saga.) Best, Markvs88 (talk) 12:47, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah its me I'm done and don't let Markvs 88 minimize it. It was him, Brad101 and several other editors just like them that make this not worth doing anymore. I wish you the best though and good luck. 71.163.243.232 (talk) 23:33, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for creating me

Thank you for creating me Kumioko and giving me purpose. Since I am a simple robot I cannot go on without my creator, without purpose. I have read that men drink beer to celebrate kinship and bond. I shall drink a beer in your honor for creating me, since I am a machine this will cause me to short out and cease to function. Goodbye! Beep, Beep , popppp.... Please do not come here to bash, make fun of, make accusations, dance on the grave or defend Kumioko. What has been done is done. Just walk away. Bgwhite (talk) 19:07, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Guidelines

Kumioko, I was wondering if you could leave a rough outline of what, specifically you were trying to accomplish from a high-level point of view. That is, the intended goal(s) (I would enunciate it myself, but it might seem trivial coming from me). A paragraph or two on where you thought Projects should go. United States ones might be separated out if there were others. Please understand, in asking this, that I am not aware of everything you have done for Wikipedia!

And what (in general scope) remains to be done. I just want to see if I can help nudge Wikipedia in that direction. And maybe there are others interested, as well. Thanks. Student7 (talk) 13:03, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Please don't take this the wrong way but no I'm not really interested in doing that at this point. Both would require a lengthy reply and I don't need or want a bunch of angry admins combing through my edits trying to find something else to fight about. I tried for years to do the right thing and to make a difference and too many editors just want to cause drama. I would also discourage you from going down that road. Too many editors are too vested in their little empires and the fight isn't worth it. Take it from me. The best I will do is say that if you look here I identified 6 things with regards to what I was attempting to do with WikiProject United States and a couple that I was working on. This might give you a picture of my overly optimistic and utopian ideals of Wikipedians actually working together for the project instead of fighting about what articles they control. A couple are marked as done but I was continuing to refine the results. 138.162.8.57 (talk) 18:08, 19 March 2012 (UTC)(Kumioko)

Thank you Kumioko

  The MASSIVE Barnstar_

You were kind to me where our paths crossed,
that is true, but that's not the reason why I want to thank you, because that was just a small thing, too minor to notice. No, the real reason why I'd like to thank you is for the things that you did for me without my even knowing about it. There is so very much hard technical work that you did behind the scenes which people may never notice, and you knew that at the time and carried on working just the same, striving to help all the people who would never know your name or what you did for them. It makes me think of the free software movement as well, how many nameless people strive not for recognition, but simply to make the world a better place, knowing the best things in life are free, and transcend money, fame and recognition. So considering the amount that you did for me, no Barnstar will ever come close, and the largest will be but a tiny insignificant grain of sand on the beach of the work done, but I'm happy with that, because it's also completely unnecessary to thank you at all, as that's not the kind I think you are.

Encouragement

Kumioko, my dear friend, I just stopped by to offer some words of encouragement. You've done a great job helping Wikipedia and your contributions show that. You've made many friends along the way and many comments here show that. There are also those that hold you in such high regard that they've been defending you and keeping an eye on your user and talk pages. That is a credit to them, but also a credit to you. And that says a lot. You know that you are valuable to the project and you know that others value you. This is something to be proud of and I congratulate you for making such a name for yourself.

Re: recoving your username, this may be difficult but might not be impossible. I think you should talk with Brion about it. I believe he could get in the database and reset the password. The difficulty would be in verifying that you are you. I believe they could use CU data to verify your IP, which might be enough. Another thing that would help would be anybody that knows your email and can vouch that you are you. Perhaps an admin or some other person of standing within the community that you've emailed recently. If all else fails, you could always make a new account like User:Kumioko, the original or something similar. I think it's important for you, and the project, for you to recover your good name.

Wikipedia can be a very harsh place. I'm sorry that you've had to go through all this stuff recently. As an IP editor, I know these issues all too well. I also agree with many of the concerns you've raised recently and would encourage you to try to change these issues for the better. Also, you certainly are right to be upset at many people for mistreating you, but there are also some that were trying to do what is in the best interest of the 'pedia and I hope you don't mix the two together as the latter have no ill will towards you.

I'll close by saying this; the recent events are a few days and a few dozen edits. They can't compare to the many years and hundreds of thousands of edits of your Wikipedia career. So please don't let this bump in the road ruin your long and otherwise happy journey.

Thanks for being a friend to the 'pedia. 64.40.60.74 (talk) 12:08, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I still probably won't be doing too much but I found that even occassional editing as an IP is unnecessarily hard. 138.162.8.57 (talk) 12:57, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Ever thought of a Fellowship?

Hi Kumioko. Just checking in again. I hope you still check here once in a while.

I saw your comment at AN in the loss of editors thread and I agree with it 100%. It got me thinking about the big picture. You truly understand what Wikipedia is all about and you always tried to get poeple to join wikiprojects and work together. That's what makes Wikipedia suceed. Working together. You are one of the few people here that has that in-depth understanding and that makes you very valuable. I was wondering if you ever gave any thought to being a Fellow at the WMF (see meta:Wikimedia Fellowships)? I think you'd make a great one. Not saying that it would be fun or anything, but you have the experience and understanding that would make you very effective in that role. Just thought I'd mention it to see if you'd be interested. All the best to you my friend. 64.40.54.250 (talk) 21:40, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the thought but I doubt I would be very welcomed at this point. Burned a few bridges. Aside from that I make to much on my day job. 71.163.243.232 (talk) 00:04, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
I suspect you would be. For the very reason that in addition to being nuancd and excellent in helping new people join projects, you have faced opposition and felt like an outsider to process yourself. Which as 64. mentions are essential problems facing our communities. – SJ + 01:35, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks I appreciate the kind words. Kumioko (talk) 02:44, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Admiration

I'm really happy you got your account back. I must tell you, Kumioko, I have a huge amount of admiration for you. You were treated poorly... You were treated poorly and yet you came back to help the project. You are a very noble person my friend. If you ever change your mind and do decide the help the WMF, I'm sure there would be many people who'd support you. All the best. 64.40.54.26 (talk) 13:17, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Notholaena standleyi

I don't want to press this hard, because I know this is a sensitive subject for you, but why tag this for WikiProject Arizona? It doesn't seem to have a special connection to Arizona compared to other states, and it occurs in both the US and Mexico. I don't really object to it, but I'm trying to figure out your criteria. Choess (talk) 04:06, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

I just removed Arizona... It grows in other states, so I don't see a reason why Arizona should be singled out. If you feel Mexico should also be added, go ahead. Bgwhite (talk) 07:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
No biggie, I'm only editing half heartedly these days. I was just going through the list of New articles and for some reason the New article alert bot had that one for Arizona. Kumioko (talk) 11:16, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Bots, go figure. Thanks for letting me know. Best, Choess (talk) 11:33, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeah its not perfect, it does a pretty good job though. If you look here you can see the others it identified as being for Arizona and a few other places. Kumioko (talk) 13:38, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Retired

If you are indeed back, could you remove the retired statement at the top. Don't know if I should say welcome back or condolences you are back :) Bgwhite (talk) 07:17, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I might remove it a little later. I'm only editing half heartedly these days. I just don't have the same feelings towards the place as I once did. I just had some free time so I did a few minor edits to pass the time. Kumioko (talk) 11:19, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps you could change it to semi-retired? —Bzweebl— talk 00:43, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Heads up

Howdy Kumioko. I think your ideas about adding links for the WP:TEAHOUSE and WP:AFC to the MediaWiki:Sidebar are great. You have a lot of great ideas, so I thought I let you know about WP:E3 in case you wanted to suggests some things for new editor engagement. Best regards. 64.40.54.49 (talk) 11:05, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Template:WikiProject United States/sandbox

Hi-- I may have inadvertently wiped out some corrections that you made for the Eastern Kentucky TF here. Someone brought it to my attention, and I haven't had a chance to try to fix it. Could you take a look? Thanks, --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:31, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

No problem I'll take a look and see if it still needs fixing. Kumioko (talk) 13:46, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Script

Following your suggestion at Village Pump, I made User:Equazcion/CatListMainTalkLinks. I'm not sure if you still need it, but it seemed like a good idea anyway. Let me know if you run into problems (I haven't tested it too extensively). Equazcion (talk) 08:00, 27 Apr 2012 (UTC)

Thanks that's exactly what I was look for. I did notice a couple things but I don't know how hard it would be to change them.
  1. The first would be a recommendation to show pages as red if they are missing. This would most normally affect talk pages but its possible there are some talk pages for articles that have been deleted. An example would be Angie Buhl in Category:South Dakota State Senators
  2. The 2nd was that I noticed that it doesn't work on subcategories like the ones here: Category:WikiProject Massachusetts articles

Thanks again for taking the time to make that I think its a huge help and will save a lot of time even if these 2 things aren't possible. Kumioko (talk) 12:46, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome, glad you like it :) To answer your questions:
  • Red links would definitely be good, they'd just take more time to script (red links = server communication, the present script doesn't need to) but if I have the time I'll give that a shot.
  • I'm not sure what you mean about it not working on subcategory pages. When I try Category:WikiProject Massachusetts articles, I see the links, including in Category:A-Class Massachusetts articles for example -- as long as I'm looking in the page listings towards the bottom (are you maybe looking at the sub-category names themselves, on top? those wouldn't contain the links, they're not pages). Equazcion (talk) 13:05, 27 Apr 2012 (UTC)
Ok thanks I understand and appreciate the help. On the second questions yes I was looking at the subcats but I understand. Like I said this is still a great help. Kumioko (talk) 13:45, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
I seem to have gotten red links working. I noticed a bit of a speed decrease on category page loads now, but hopefully it shouldn't be too bad. Equazcion (talk) 18:40, 27 Apr 2012 (UTC)
Oh really thats great you got them working. I don't mind if it slows the page load. Do I need to reload the script or do anything to see the change? Kumioko (talk) 18:47, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
As long as you installed it using importScript (as opposed to copy/pasting the whole script into your skin file), it should happen automatically. If not, a hard refresh should do it (usually Ctrl-F5). Equazcion (talk) 18:49, 27 Apr 2012 (UTC)
Ok thanks. Kumioko (talk) 18:54, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Ohio Wesleyan University categories

Hi Kumioko. You recently created a bunch of categories for assessment by Wikipedia:WikiProject Ohio Wesleyan University. However, this project is defunct so all those categories are empty and likely to remain so. Do you mind if I submit them for deletion? Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 04:48, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Its true that the project is currently defunct. However I added it to the supported projects list of WPUS so once it is added to the template (which I have been waiting for an admin to do for over a week) those categories will be populated. Wikipedia is recruiting heavily from Universities these days so hopefully we'll get some new interest in these university related projects. Other than that if the project sits Idle it doesn't really hurt anything. Kumioko (talk) 12:56, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
I still feel it's putting the cart before the horse. The assessment categories will create the misleading impression that the project is active and that some group is actually watching over these articles. Pichpich (talk) 15:20, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Well to be honest a group is watching the articles. 2 groups actually. The articles are going to fall into WPUS and WPOhio so the articles will be visible to both groups as well as anyone from Wesleyan that might find or be interested in the project. This way the project can still be Defunct, the project will still have infrastructure to support the articles and the articles will still be maintained by multiple groups of editors. The articles in WPUS usually get reviewed at least once or twice a month at minimum using the AWB logic and a couple other bots. That is whenever the template coding gets implemented. Kumioko (talk) 15:31, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

I have to agree with that. I am part of a similarly defunct WikiProject and it is nice to see the larger group taking overall care but still giving the opportunity to check into the logs from time to time. Watchlisting the article alerts is particular helpful. Anyway the reason I came here was to say that the change has caused an error. the project and some categories show redlinked. It did work before so the WP was already implemented. I left a sample link on Template talk:WikiProject United States Agathoclea (talk) 07:55, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Oh thanks for letting me know. Cna you give me an example of one. I'll try and fix it as soon as I can but I am in the middle of moving so it might be tomorrow before I can get to it. Kumioko (talk) 00:04, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
  • bump* the error is with all falling under the weslean scope. One link is at the template talk page linked above which shows the Weslean template and WPUS side by side. On the note of the other stuff going on I would like to review the block you had back in Feb. Can you point me to the relevant situation that actually lead to the block. Something must have gone wrong along the way. There are some strange people about - some years ago I had to deal with a - now former - admin who resorted to sockpuppetry to vandalize interwikilinks. Agathoclea (talk) 17:37, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for reminding me. I'll take a look at it in a few and see what I did wrong. I don't really want to rehash all that but frankly I am still bitter about it. Here is a link to part of it. Its the last discussion. Theres a lot more to it but this is were it all started with Mark and his blind reversions and violations or 3RR. My block only enables his behavior. Kumioko (talk) 18:18, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Can see where that went wrong. 3rr is not really the way to argue a policy infraction like this. The whole thing already seen settled a few years ago. I'll try and find the refererences. Agathoclea (talk) 21:23, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

WPUS additions?

Good day. May I ask why you are adding WPUS banners to user talk pages? I don't understand. Regards, --Manway 16:50, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

If I added one to a user talk page it was in error. I'll take a look and remove that thanks for letting me know. Kumioko (talk) 16:51, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
You did not. It was my mistake. Apologies. --Manway 16:58, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
No problem, been tagging a lot of articles lately so anythings possible. Kumioko (talk) 16:59, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Date vs year

The only reason for the year parameter in templates is to support Harvard referencing in two cases

  1. Where we need something like "2012a"
  2. Where the PHP time functions screw up extracting the year

Both of these are solvable, the first is extremely rare and can be solved better by using the explicit "ref" paramter, the second y a minor fix to the template I wrote some time ago that never got implemented.

The extra parameter to the citation templates is quite costly, when we bear in mind that the citation templates are the most expensive part of rendering and a severe load problem for the servers.

Congressional Cemetery project

I posted this at WP:DC, but thought you might have a special interest.

Dear Washingtonians,

I've started a little project involving QR codes, QRpedia, and the Congressional Cemetery. For a one-month trial period, 6 QR codes which link to Wikipedia via QRpedia, have been installed at the Congressional Cemetery. Please take a look at Outreach for things you can do to help continue this project. Probably the best thing you can do is to visit the cemetery and scan the codes with your smartphone. We'll all be checking the statistics to see if this is really a worthwhile venture.

Any help, suggestions or questions would be appreciated.

Smallbones (talk) 19:10, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. There are a lot of areas where this would be helpful IMO not the least of with would be certain exhibits at the Smithsonian, National archives or other things. I'm not sure how much traffic the Congressional Cemetery gets but I think its definately worth pursuing. Kumioko (talk) 19:30, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Welcome back

Welcome back again! Time to take down the banners at the top of your user and user talk page? GoingBatty (talk) 01:32, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, yeah maybe. I'm still only poking around and although it may appear I am doing a lot of edits, for me its still very low. I might take them down in a few days. I'm waiting to see how a few things pan out first. Not everyone has been as welcoming and I am not sure that I can recover from Dramageddon February. Kumioko (talk) 01:37, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Welcome back/Wikiproject banner

Hey Kumioko First off Welcome back, second I noticed on the {{WikiProject United States}} that when the banner is collapsed it reads like this

WikiProject United States / Arizona (Rated Stub-class, Low-importance)

And I was wondering how its done cause I'm thinking of doing the same for {{WikiProject Oklahoma}} which would look like this

WikiProject Oklahoma / OU Task-force / Task-force Tulsa (Rated Stub-class, Low-importance)

If you could help or at list point me in the right direction that would be mighty helpful.--Dcheagle 09:10, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks and no problem, you have to add nesting to the template. I'll take a look at it in a little bit. Kumioko (talk) 11:02, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
It should be working now. The template already had the code but the brackets where off. Kumioko (talk) 11:12, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Any share your experience project?

Is there any "Share your funny Wikipedia experience" type project in Wikipedia? You know? I asked this question: Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Watchlist_-_bold_letter_article_titles.21, but, every time I am trying to post something there, I am getting an "Edit conflict" there. Edit conflict 5 times... he he he he! :-D. I want to share this experience in "Share your funny Wikipedia experience" type project in Wikipedia if there is any! --Tito Dutta 17:30, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Not that I know of. There are some users that keep little subpages of stuff like that but not a general one. It happens to me all the time. Go to say something then have to sit there and kep trying till it gets through. Kumioko (talk) 17:33, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Question re Edit Summary on assessments

I'm wondering how you would handle this. I've already left a message on the editor's talk page. A long-established editor is making numerous (hundreds upon hundreds) of needed assessments of WPUS articles, but not limited to WPUS. I don't think a bot is involved. The editor is not leaving anything in the edit summary. So, if you have more than a few of those articles on your watch list, you see a whole string of edits happening, with no clue as to what was done, unless you individually pull up each article. It would appear that this editor has always operated this way. So, how would you handle such a thing? This editor has been on Wikipedia longer than most editors who are still around. And if they don't want to give the courtesy of an edit summary, what is the recourse? Maile66 (talk) 01:07, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Well they should definatly be leaving an edit summary. Have you asked them about it? I would start by just asking them if they could please add an edit summary, at least a basic one, to give some idea what was done. It wasn't me was it, I thought I used one? Kumioko (talk) 02:44, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
It wasn't you, or anyone I remember posting over at WPUS. I did leave a message on their talk page about this, so we'll see. I know it's easy to forget to notate in the summary - I have lapses, too. But this is a serial forgetter. We;ll see. Hope you're doing well these days. (and danged if I didn't just forget to notate when I clicked "Save Page".Maile66 (talk) 11:33, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

NACA reports

Although your articles on NACA reports are fairly good, they have no place in Wikipedia as they are too specific and technical. I suspect that any articles on these lines will be deleted. Having said that, what would probably be acceptable is a list or table of the NACA reports or the most notable ones. Hope this helps, as I hate to see people waste their efforts. Keep on editing .Petebutt (talk) 10:49, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the note but I didn't create them. I just think it would be a waste to delete them. I do agree that they need to be cleaned up and rewritten in many cases though. I also agree that we can't have technical articles here. We have lots of them. Kumioko (talk) 14:27, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

RF and bots

In regards to your comment over at Bot Requests, there is no doubt there will be a learning curve for those who pick up the load for Rich. See I've also posted here, and there was a response indicating that curve. They know what his bots are. But the details are another matter, perhaps.Maile66 (talk) 01:20, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

I think you are right and time will tell. There is no doubt there are going to be problems I only wonder how long it will take to work them out and how patient the community will be. I also have to admit that Rich is a better man than me cause I doubt I would have given them the code. Kumioko (talk) 01:30, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

How does a project become supported by WPUS?

What is the process by which a state project becomes directly supported by WPUS and the WPUS banner? I have not been able to find this information yet under Wikipedia:WikiProject United States. Peaceray (talk) 18:42, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

It almost always starts with a discussion on the projects talk page. However, there have been some exceptions. There are a number of supported projects that were in an inactive or defunct state (US State legislatures and US Counties are good examples as are most of the Educational ones) and some of these were added without much discussion due to their status. Is there a certain one that you have in mind? Kumioko (talk) 19:15, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Hawaii Peaceray (talk) 19:54, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
In the past Hawaii was one of the projects that did not want to be supported, at least using the banner. If things have changed thats ok too but a discussion would need to take place on the projects talk page before its added. If it helps there were some discussions at a couple places on the WPHawaii talk page now located in the archives here, at various places on my talk page (which can also be found in the archives but I'm not sure exactly were) and on the WPUS talk page which is also located in its archives in a couple places. I hope this helps. Kumioko (talk) 20:01, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Amending bot generated lists

Hi, re this edit... it's a bot-generated list, so your edit will be ignored when the list is rebuilt next week. See also Wikipedia talk:List of Wikipedians by number of edits/Archive 9#Why am I not on the list? 2 and Wikipedia talk:List of Wikipedians by number of edits/Archive 9#Include my sockpuppet. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:20, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

I know. The problem is that when my account was "fixed" it split the edits somehow between Kumioko and Kumioko (renamed). I doubt its possible to modify the bot so the only way to update it would be manually. Otherwise, starting next month my name will show up twice. Once at about 318, 000 and again about 20, 000. If you know of a better way I'm game to try it. Kumioko (talk) 20:23, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

AWP error

Hi Kumioko, it looks like when you did a Wikiproject assessment here [1] it broke the code for Miszabot auto archiving. I don't use AWB so not sure if it's something wrong with AWB itself or if it's just a user error but thought you should know. - Burpelson AFB 20:25, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks good catch. I'll watch that closer. Kumioko (talk) 21:26, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

nominating userboxes for deletion

if you check the instructions at WP:TFD, you will see that one of the things that are not listed at TFD are userboxes. you should list them at WP:MFD instead. thank you. Frietjes (talk) 18:31, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Got it thanks. Kumioko (talk) 18:32, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
do you want me to move the discussions or are you going to do it? Frietjes (talk) 19:51, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
I can do it. I'll probably just add them as a group rather than individually. Thanks. Kumioko (talk) 19:58, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Template:WinchesterVA-geo-stub

Since this is a stub template, I moved it to WP:SFD for you. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 20:13, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Ok thanks. I did that submission in Twinkle and Twinkle doesn't have the Stub for deletion venue for some reason. Kumioko (talk) 21:50, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Probably because SFD is so rarely used. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 21:52, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Makes sense. If its rarely used I wonder if we wouldn't be better served by just merging it with MFD. Kumioko (talk) 21:53, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
I've started an RFC on it here. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 22:04, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Userbox nominations at MfD

You may want to add more comments in the Wikipedia:Miscellany_for_deletion/Template:User_Elkhorn discussion. It would help if you posted a link to a policy or guidline that supports your request for deletion. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 08:26, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Template:Userlikes London, ON

could you nominate this one at MFD for me? I would, but I can't create a discussion page. 198.102.153.2 (talk) 20:39, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Sure getting ready to go do some things but I'll do it once I get back. Kumioko (talk) 20:40, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Japan banner and taskforce

Maybe you can have a quick look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Proposals/2012/May#Ainu_stubs and give the relevant project a pointer of what they need to do to get the banners set up for their taskforce.I did not find anything set up and have long abandoned any hope of looking at banner codes. Agathoclea (talk) 13:01, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

I dropped a note. I looked at the Japan template and it wouldn't be hard to add that as a task force or whatever they need. Just let me know. Kumioko (talk) 13:36, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Category deletion nominations

Hello. A few days ago, you placed {{subst:cfd}} on both Category:Artesian botanists and Category:Artesian gardeners, but you did not list either one of these nominations on the WP:CFD daily log and never stated your reasons for nominating them. Since both of these categories are empty, and have been empty for several days, I have removed your nominations and replaced them with speedy deletion templates. However, if you still think there is a reason for discussion, you are welcome to remove the speedy deletions and re-start the CFD discussion process. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:55, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I used twinkle to do those submissions so there must have been a glitch in twinkle. Kumioko (talk) 02:24, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Photo request

I know this stinks, but would it be possible for you to get a photo of the Main Sewerage Pumping Station on O Street, SE? Any help appreciated.

Smallbones (talk) 02:58, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Yeah that's no problem I work right next to it I should be able to take a couple tomorrow. I'll have to use my cell phone camera but it takes ok pictures so it should do for now. Kumioko (talk) 03:03, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Sounds great! Smallbones (talk) 03:19, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
There doing a lot of construction around it so theres a lot of construction equipment and fence around it but I'll try and weave around that and get some shots. Kumioko (talk) 03:24, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Motions

(In response to your 20:17 4 June 2012 comment there...)

There's a number of problematic issues at play here.

  1. As you note, there is the potential to view this as a veiled inference that the use prior to this was inappropriate.
  2. If this passes, could future cases (involving anyone) refer to this and say "the use of checkuser wasn't authorized in my case"? ArbCom claims precedents don't apply, but the truth is the opposite.
  3. If they don't state it, but use it anyway, do they invoke executive privilege as ArbCom to use checkuser? If so, then is ArbCom not subservient to CheckUser policy?
  4. While all members of ArbCom are automatically checkusers, it is not automatically assumed they can use checkuser in the process of enforcing arbitration remedies at their will. This is not codified anywhere (accusations of wikilawyering aside), though at least some members of ArbCom feel no further justification of the use of checkuser is needed than to have a case closed against someone. Does this motion change that status quo?
  5. Where does the power of ArbCom stop with respect to the use of checkuser, if the only supporting rationale for its use is a case that was closed against someone? "Against" is vague in some cases. Where is the edge past which they are in violation of policy? Or, is it really as in (2) above; checkuser policy doesn't apply to them?

All of this is very vague. --Hammersoft (talk) 20:36, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

I agree and this is only the tip of the iceberg of problems we witnessed over the last few weeks. The whole Arbcom process, the vagueness of their structure, the sense of being above reproach, etc. The whole thing bothers me more the more I learn about it. Kumioko (talk) 20:58, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
  • Well, it appears #3 above has been stated by Roger now with his "Checkuser discretion is so very wide" comment. Effectively, they can use it when they want. This further supports the idea that AUSC would never find fault with ArbCom's checkuser actions. --Hammersoft (talk) 21:31, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Wikipedia:WikiProject NIH/Template:WPNIHubx. Since you had some involvement with the Wikipedia:WikiProject NIH/Template:WPNIHubx redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). Your taging of anon user talk pages as U2

Please note that CSD U2 doesn't apply to talk pages of anonymous users with any edits. On the other hand, I have no problem deleting many (if not all) of the pages under G7 - even though it says that it "does not apply to user talk pages", I think that IAR and being friendly to newcomer anons is reasonable cause for an exception here. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 05:19, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, I just submitted those because they appeared to have been done in error. I defer to your judgement though. Kumioko (talk) 11:12, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
