In similar vein as the Family Diety, the Village Diety has the potential to string through various surnames eminating from the same region if not the village. I am thinking specificity, in this case may add to identification and cataloguing of the various Deshasta Brahmins.
Hello Mr/Ms Kulkarni, Since the village deity is, as the term suggests, specific to that village, then aren't we just duplicating the same information ? shouldn't the village name be enough for classification ? Yes, I am referring to the fact that A village Diety may be worshipped by more than one group of Brahmins. Although, I have not researched this enough. Will attempt to get the info next time I am in a position to do so.
