Speedy deletion nomination of Mark Wilkinson (director) edit

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Mark Wilkinson (director), to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ttonyb (talk) 03:56, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

User:Ktfield/Mark Wilkinson edit

What you have made is a draft article in a "sub-page" in your "user space", indicated by "User:Ktfield/" at the start of the title. It is possible to move an article from a user sub-page to the main encyclopedia directly by use of the "Move" button, but I suggest that instead, when it is ready, you click the "Submit the page!" button in the box at the top. That will send it to WP:Articles for creation where an experienced user will check it and either accept it or give you feedback.

As we already have articles about several people called Mark Wilkinson, the article will need to be called "Mark Wilkinson (director)", if that is his main claim to fame.

At present it has a major problem in the lack of references. You give three, but they are useless because they are all about Herbie Hancock and none of them mentions Wilkinson.

References are necessary for two reasons:

  • The Wikipedia:Verifiability policy requires that: "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source".
  • Wikipedia's inclusion criterion is called Wikipedia:Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything including IMDb; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought him significant enough to write substantial comment about? For film-makers the expected standard is explained at WP:CREATIVE.

So you need to give references, both to verify the claims of prizes and recognition and to establish notability.

Hello, Kate. I closed the deletion discussion to allow you a chance to work on the draft article, as you had come back (although not with this account). However, a userspace draft is meant to be a short term measure while an article is being prepared, not a long term alternative to actually posting an article to the encyclopaedia. You have not edited the draft since August 2010‎, which is really much longer than the time scale for which a draft article should remain in user space. At present, there are several problems with your draft, and it is not yet suitable as an article. As you can see above, JohnCD has given you some advice on what needs to be done to make it acceptable as an article, and if you want any further help you are welcome to contact me on my talk page. I am sure that JohnCD would also be happy for you to ask him for help. It really is important, if you want the page to remain on Wikipedia, to deal with the problems. As I said above, I closed the deletion discussion to give you a chance to work on it, but if no improvements are made then it will be taken to a new deletion discussion, and, in its present form, will very probably be deleted. Once again, please do ask for more help if you need it. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:30, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
